She says it’s because oxford has so much work that they don’t allow you to get a job whilst studying. This is true but my bestfriend went to oxford to do history (more difficult than grace’s music course) and I went to a different Russell group for a different degree but we always had the same amount of workload. For her it was more you were expected to join societies and clubs and take part in the typical oxbridge activities, which grace didn’t do. So whilst others were doing rowing or running or choir she was able to use that time to start a business. This is the epitome of privilege, being allowed to do something the majority of students aren’t allowed to do because you come from a powerful family. Influencer is a job, she was doing brand deals and going on trips during term time. When my friend was at oxford (the same time as grace) she had to ask permission to go home or leave oxford during term time and was often rejected so you can tell the favouritism by grace going on trips during term

One example is a family member of my friends was extremely ill and she was only allowed to leave if she stayed back over the holidays to make up the days which grace definitely didn’t do when she would go to London to socialise and PR trips.Really makes me question how many free passes she got

I think it's because she went to Oxford.
No shade to other unis, but Oxbridge is in a league of its own work-wise compared to other unis. This is undeniable. While both institutions are ridiculously elitist, you can't knock that the kids that go there are forced to work their asses off (even if they try to downplay how much they do - lol not in Grez's case though because she massively exaggerated how much she did).
Both places are intense pressure cookers so finishing at either place with a degree is an achievement in itself.

To come out with a successful business, while having to ingest so much information and do so much work against the clock (while also trying to find yourself, make friends, have hobbies etc). is massive.
And I'm not a Grace stan by any stretch of the imagination, far from it. I think she's incredibly disingenuous, very crafty with the truth and desperately trying to prove herself so that when she eventually gains access to her trust fund, it's like she 'earned' it.

That being said, I genuinely can't understand how she got a 2:1, managed an assistant, juggled time for a boyfriend, friends and holidays etc., house hunting, a house refurb (even if she had a pm) and so much more. It's just so much to manage for one person to have control over, let alone someone doing a degree at Oxford.

Yeah there's some influencers who desperately want to prove that they're not like other influencers when it comes to work ethic. I think it definitely comes from insecurity and a need for validation. If you watch some of those 'day in the life of being an influencer' videos they're often filled with a lot of busy work, like replying to e-mails and meetings - things that somehow take up the bulk of their day even though these are tasks that people with a 9-5 office job have to deal with in the first hour or two of their work day. People like Zoella are kind of hilarious for this, filming themselves going into the office at 11, having a meeting and writing a few e-mails then going home after a few hours and talk about being exhausted they are.

I think Patricia Bright is a good example of someone who does the influencer/businesswoman thing well. For years she was making YouTube videos and grinding in the background (e.g. building her business, investing in property), but you never heard a peep from her about how 'hard' she was working. It's only recently that she has started opening up about how she has made her wealth (on her channel The Break, which is more of an educational platform rather than ~look at how hard I work~).

Pat's interesting because she learned a lot about investing in property from her mum who owns a ton of houses. She was always very transparent about that and never made out like she learned it all herself (even if she did learn a lot of other stuff off her own back/through her job).

She's very business savvy and rather than exposing her wealth to show off, she's doing it because she spotted a gap in the market to make money. I really like her!

agree I watched one of her videos where she spoke about how to start a business. And she had launched another business but didn’t share any details of what it was because she said she didn’t want to market it through her. The product/ service fit a good gap in a niche market and would thrive on its own. This is difference between a businesswoman and grace who sells merch as closely tied to her face as possible

I always used to watch grace’s hauls and take her advice on bras bc her boobs are a similar size to mine, even down to one being slightly bigger than the other. So wtf!! This legit does not fit her. Her left tit is gonna pop out at any moment lol.

I'd argue that she was further up than the middle rung, Grace was already closer to the top than a lot of people could ever dream of.

She didn’t come across well on that BBC podcast, she seemed very cold and awkward

I agree. I also went to a prestigious UK uni (not oxbridge) and I believe both my best friend and bf who did go to Oxford had way more work than me and my bf is younger than me - in Grace's year and I was doing my masters. I also don't put it past her to juggle because I am also really capable of juggling crazy things and it's possible but requires a lot of time management and energy. But what I never understood was how she was able to travel all the time when my bf barely had time to visit me to London. He also competitively rowed for oxford and did other societies, but had to drop them because he wanted to do well on his degree. She was literally dotting off to Croatia and a lot of other places to party - surely she missed classes, tutorials, and I remember GG was talking about how she was excused out of exams or something (please correct me if I'm wrong). I am really good at balancing multiple things but never was I able to travel except for once in an entire academic year. Even for me to go down to Oxford was so stressful and I had to plan ahead and all these things and literally come back into London to go straight to my class sometimes. The traveling part throws me off more than anything else.

Can you imagine trying to argue that you’re a hardworking business woman as if your career doesn’t rely on you getting your bum and tits out on the internet to sell products (nothing wrong with wearing whatever you want on the internet but let’s not pretend people support her because her business is revolutionary - more like she takes a picture practically naked whenever she feels her businesses need more help and people feel like they can look like that by buying a tacky bra and doing one body weight squat on shreddy for 12 weeks)

Body by Ciara has released her own resistance bands. Does this mean the end of B_nd? Ciara’s really been making the most of lockdown and has adapted so quickly. I feel like given the platform grace already has she could have really used that to her advantage

i feel like if she really wanted to separate herself from tala she needs to stop modeling for them. i know it’s her business but it seems odd that she has her tits out on her business’s instagram and insists that she wants to further her personal brand from tala/be a “real CEO.”

as someone else said i don’t really care if she has her tits out on instagram. something just doesn’t click with me about a brand’s CEO posing in underwear and wanting to also formally run it.

i hope that makes sense? lol

The fact is it wouldn’t sell if she didn’t. I’m sorry but the clothes are SO ugly. They were okay at first, but slowly it’s morphed into merch like I’m sorry hun I’m embarrassed to be walking around with TALA written all over my body excessive branding is so tacky

for sure. it just seems like earlier on she wanted tala to stand on its own and become its own brand and now she’s given up and really gone full into the grace beverley merch brand.

I went to Oxbridge and I can guarantee my workload wasn't that insane. The terms are shorter, so you fit more in that's the only real difference. You have to have actually done your work too. Everyone knows the easier degrees to get in on and Grace did it. When you get a ridiculous number of weeks off at Christmas and Easter etc, you find the time!

So if they can restock their ‘bestsellers’ just like that, why haven’t they been doing that all along? 2 days ago grace said it wasn’t possible. They’re literally just trying to create fake scarcity at the cost of the environment and people’s money

Oxbridge students get set loads of work because that is how the uni is structured, not because Oxbridge students are smarter. Plus you are not allowed a job whilst at Oxbridge whereas most students at all other top universities work part-time. When every other non-oxbirdge student is at uni they don't have an 8-week term with all the time in the world to study and a few socials dotted in all on one campus and within a tiny city. You work 2-3 days a week or/and volunteer or do an internship once a week. So your study time gets severely reduced. I don't doubt there are discrepancies between different universities workloads and Oxbridge students 'work the hardest', but this idea that work significantly harder than every other student is bizzarre, especially when you consider that most students at other universities are working/doing internships/volunteering during term.

Completely agree!
There is also a hugeeeeee disparity between rich and poor at Oxbridge. Not having a job and the cost of societies, May Ball etc are insane... it’s all a farce. I don’t recommend it

Sorry but what she said on her story about how she will make an exception to support women owned fast fashion is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

She has built this entire brand on being 'anti fast fashion' but now says because she likes the owner of this brand she will support? I'd hardly say it's very women supporting considering the vast majority of people working in these sweatshops in awful conditions producing these garments are women themselves. In fact I'm pretty sure I've even heard Grace herself say that on a few occasions?

If she wanted to shop at houseofcb and had never preached at regular people for using similar brands it's whatever but to give that excuse makes absolutely no sense. Her hypocrisy isn't even slightly subtle at this point and she's just tangling herself up in this web of half-truths and half-formed opinions. Like I've seen people say before on here, this is the absolute embodiment of rich white girl 'feminism'

this!!! just saw this and thought what a cunt
i mean, most other people’s reasoning for buying fast fashion is poverty, but here comes grace who can just chose to be throw away with her “morals” and brand as when she sees fit
what a massive hypocrite. struggling with this woman more as the days pass u kno
