I want to find out how the captain died. All the others have been explained,
Robin = electrocuted,
the plague pit people = self explanatory,
humphrey = unfortunate beheading,
Mary = burned at the stake,
Mary's friend = choked
Kitty = poisoned / abused by her "sister"
Thomas = shot in a duel
Lady button = pushed out a window
Captain = ????
Pat = shot in the neck
Julian = heart attack doing the naughty
What happened to the captain, I need to know!!!

Love the fact that everyone knows the Captain is gay but it's just him, nothing's ever said.

We might be in store for a mass sucking off!
Jokes aside, I think there are many ways they could end it, will be interesting to see which route they go down. I’m thinking a baby for Alison and Mike and the baby can see the ghosts and it’s an open(ish) ending with most of the ghosts still there and maybe one/two leaving during the series.
Or instead of a mass sucking off, Alison and Mike die somehow and become ghosts themselves?

Definitely possible! It would be fun for Mike to finally meet all the ghosts. Then the ending is them all there as ghosts as another family/couple move into the house…

I wondered for a while if the Captain was either suicide or a "broken heart" after his friend left. Captain himself never appears to have been deployed on the battlefield which suggests he may have had a weak heart or poor health (as well as being part of a social class which made it easier to be given a training role on medical grounds).

Plus he can't have left the grounds to die in battle, otherwise he wouldn't be there now.

Ahh, of course. Good point. I know that's part of the storyline but I hadn't really thought about it in relation to the captain, so I always assumed he died in battle.

If I remember correctly, some of his medals indicate he has been in battle. He might have gone back to Button House after the fighting and died when he heard his friend had been killed.

This is one of my least favourite things about the US version. I don’t mind that the characters are Americanised versions of the uk ones but the US military character is too stereotypically gay. With the Captain you can tell he’s from a time when being gay was unacceptable and has learnt to hide it and you can only tell through subtle hints, were as the American one is very out there and not how you’d expect someone who died during the civil war to behave.
(I know it’s only a tv show but this really annoyed me 😅).

As sad as I am about this, I am a big fan of shows going out at their best rather than flogging it into mediocrity. Always leave the viewers wanting more.
I think you're spot on ❤

In other news, we've just watched the first episode of Taskmaster series 15 and Kiell was great fun in it :)

I wonder if Button House was used as a hospital in wartime - lots of country houses were, so perhaps he was injured in battle and treated there but died?

I absolutely love Ghosts and was sad to read that there will be no more after this series but it is good to leave people wanting more.

I've loved every episode, it is so well crafted.

I've not watched the US version and not sure if I'm going to.

I've said this before but I reckon it will end with Allison & Mike having a baby & the Ghosts interacting with the baby. That's my theory anyway!

I'm falling down a rabbit hole and Googling the significance of the Captain's medals 🤦 One is the Defence Medal
which seems to imply he may not have seen military action: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Medal_(United_Kingdom).

---

Argh, just Googled the France and Germany Star which was awarded to those who served in France/Germany June 1944 to mid 1945. Which makes interesting reading. And doesn't help answer how he ended up at Button House.

I did wonder if the Ghosts at Button House were those who died in tragic, emotional circumstances through no fault of their own and before they were meant to die. And, due to this, are more likely to remain as ghosts.

Groundskeeper - bled to death in animal trap
Kitty - suspected poisoning
Robin - killed by a wooly mammoth
Pat - "accidentally" shot through the neck by an arrow
Annie - choking to death on a bread roll
Mary - accused of being a witch to account for agricultural failings
Plague villagers - the village who came back with the plague from the nearest big town
Julian - shagging around (he's the mould that doesn't quite fit my theory)
Andrew - coaxed into a duel by a friend after his lover's family fortune
fan - shoved out a window after finding her husband shagging another man
Beheaded man (sorry half a bottle of prosecco in right now 🤣) - accidental beheading as he was about to take the flack for his wife's treason.

Please tell me this makes sense, I've spent ever so long typing it out 🤣

Andrew- do you mean Thomas?

And wasn't Robin hit by lightning while hiding from a bear? It's why he can control the electricity.

(Edit - 'beheaded man' lol, poor Humphry)

🤣🤣🤣

And this is a timely reminder to not drink and Tattle 🙊

You're absolutely right. Poor Humphrey indeed. The actor that plays him also plays Robin so at least I remembered one of his characters 🤣. I've always wondered if they use him for the body shots or a body double (BA BOOM!).

Someone else brings Robin when Robin doesn't have a head.
