What statistics? No documents = no data. Or are you telling me to 'not believe my lying eyes'? The authorities don't even have enough certified foreign language speakers to determine who's speaking what dialect from which country.

Are you saying all the lone men arriving are Afghan interpreters, and won't be used as slave labour for Uber etc.? How many interpreters did the military employ altogether? I notice you only mention men. How many were women? Where might they be? Oh, wait ...

I was asking you where you got your info from. That's all.

I mentioned men because they were used as interpreters and their names were the ones leaked.

A friend of a friend works for the national trust, and one of the cleaners (a man) has announced he is now a woman and mgt has told everyone to "be kind".

It goes without saying that this special kind of lady is keeping his pen, and so mgt have agreed he can take frequent comfort breaks to release the pen from being tucked up, all as part of him being "a woman".

I wish this was a joke btw, there is no punchline.

This doesn't make sense... As a cleaner he would be able to adjust himself wherever he wanted by popping into the loo and it would only take a second. I'm not convinced your friend of a friend has got the whole story.

Just going back to the IVF chat, both of my children are IVF. I have unexplained infertility (and nothing apparently wrong with my husband’s sperm either)
I had every test done that was available and there was no reason as to why I couldn’t conceive.
Once implanted, the pregnancy and labour were textbook both times. My children are intelligent, energetic regular kids.
I will be eternally grateful to the medical staff who gave me a helping hand. There are many women who go on to have natural pregnancies after IVF. There are many women who have IVF after having secondary infertility.
Of course I understand that many people don’t agree with the practice. I don’t agree with surrogacy or egg donation therefore can I be classed as a hypocrite?
I don’t know what I’m trying to achieve with what I’m saying as I’m not trying to change people’s minds or make anyone feel bad about their opinion. Just wanted to put in my tuppence worth to say that I’m very glad that I could give Mother Nature a nudge in the right direction.

I had no idea that IVF was such a contentious topic to be honest. Healthcare exists to improve our health and to me infertility is as devastating a condition as any other.

Emma Hilton wrote an excellent post here: about the mother/bay bond and why surrogacy puts pregnancies at so much greater risk. The article she’s responding to in Wired is an horrific read. It’s about some rich silicon valley woman with massive MH issues who wreaked a campaign of vengeance against the woman she had paid to be a surrogate when the baby died. It’s horrible but really shows how hideous the surrogacy industry is.

I read it as he’s tucking his pen and balls up in a painful manner (don’t want to think about the specifics tbh ) and he needs breaks so that he can spend time letting it all hang out before he tucks it up again and resumes his duties. Begging the question of would any other person be allowed multiple additional breaks to relieve themselves from pain they’re inflicting on themselves? Maybe people with bulimia should be encouraged to have regular vomiting breaks? (Not making light of bulimia but that would be equally ridiculous wouldn’t it!)

I don't think they do that unless they're in very tight clothes. Presumably he's not cleaning in Spandex. Certainly I'm not convinced the management would be telling staff to allow him comfort breaks for pen floppage!

Didn't they discover recently that normal fertilization isn't whichever sperm gets there first - the egg spins round to prevent that, choosing the one it wants?

I didn't know that - that's fascinating! So the egg is doing its best to ensure that a healthy (and not just the first out of the tap) sperm is the one to fertilise it?

Mother Nature gets more and more of my respect every day.

It would be interesting to get some long-term studies on these infants as they grew into adulthood to see if there are any physical or mental anomalies (beyond standard levels). And on the pregnancy experiences/ health of their mothers.

So I've just learned this isn't actually recent - it was originally discovered back in the 80s! Seems ideology is trumping biological fact, and men don't like being told they're not superior to women.
