@Brian Butterfield The Food and Drink thread is always open for a chat, you already have friends in there from the JM thread too if you need support.

I raw-dogged my way through menopause, it was a very lonely and confusing time for me as I'd gone through some big life changes just before and felt like my personality had changed overnight.
I went from a mellow, mostly happy person to a small, hot and angry ball of tears and rage. I wonder now what TF happened and how I got through with my sanity and marriage intact.

I've thought of you as a friend since I first joined Tattle years ago, please, if you need a place to vent pop over and join us. 💜
Are you me @MaineCoonMama sure sounds like it 🫂 might join you all over the food and drink thread if that’s alright ladies?

you’ll be so welcome there! Sending so much love @Brian Butterfield and a huge kick up the a to the husband, I’m sorry you’re not being supported the way you deserve. If there’s a family member or close friend who you can trust who you can go stay with, or ask to come stay with you, for a little bit (I don’t know how old your kids are) then please do consider asking, you deserve to have people around you who love and support you ALWAYS but especially right now xx

Another symptom of the menopause is depression which is not widely talked about. I had it for a few years and put it down to life circumstances at the time (got made redundant and my mum was dying). Looking back now I believe that it wasn't just my life circumstances at that time. I would recommend talking to your GP @Brian Butterfield
Good luck
This is the issue I have - where does perimenopause end and general dissatisfaction with life begin?!

My peri symptoms are getting worse and worse (I at least know this is peri because my period disappeared in March and hasn’t been seen since) but I’m also wrangling with two neurodivergent kids who are SO reluctant to leave the house other than go to school I honestly feel panicky and trapped at weekends and especially school holidays like this week. It’s like being imprisoned. No freedom to go anywhere or do anything without hours (sometimes days) of negotiation and cajoling. When I’m feeling particularly low - like today - it’s like I’ve wasted well over a decade being denied the kind of normal life that typical families manage as a matter of routine.

So is it peri or is my life a garbage fire? 😅

Sending you love @Brian Butterfield ❤ I remember you from the Jack Monroe threads, always a personal thrill when I see a mendacious ninny posting here x

I think I am at the beginning of perimenopause. At times I have brain fog, low mood and disrupted sleep. I sometimes feel quite scared for what the future holds. The joys of being an actual woman 🙃

He is a deeply creepy and unsettling man.

Also, this comment is enraging. duck all the menopausal women that actually need these hormones. There's a global shortage because of selfish, deluded narcs like yourself.

Lilly worries for trans women who don't have insurance to pay for hormones, and says many are resorting to buying hormones off the black market. She added: 'There is a global shortage of oestrogen and progesterone right now.'

I'm peri-menopausal, and it's left me so depressed and lost that I genuinely don't want to be here anymore.

Thank you, everyone, for being so kind ❤

I'm not very good at talking about stuff. I isolate myself entirely when I'm down, which is one of the reasons I love Tattle so much, as it's a safe and undemanding space. You're all wonderful.

I saw a reel recently where a doctor was explaining what to say to GPs about perimenopause symptoms when they try to give you the brush off as they have done to me. Write down your symptoms, give them all of them in a list and repeat that it is ‘negatively affecting your quality of life’ over and over again until they listen. Basically don’t do what women always do, be a hero and neglect yourself while looking after everyone else until it’s all horrendous.

I’m sorry you’re struggling so much @Brian Butterfield. Hate to see one of my faves having a hard time. ❤ Please do go back to your GP - they should be able to help.

FWIW I found peri much worse than actual menopause on my MH. I’m out the other side now and I do feel like I’m my old self again (albeit a wrinklier achier version).

I'm going through menopause just now, been on HRT coming up to a year now. Was on patches and now on spray with coil fitted as hormone levels weren't quite right. I asked for a woman GP when I first went to ask about menopause help and they were very understanding and took time to explain everything. They also followed up with telephone appointments. I had to get some tests and biopsy at hospital recently and they were very good too. I'd recommend asking for a double appointment with your GP so you can ask any questions you have without feeling rushed (I didn't have double appointment, but GP did spend longer with me than allocated time). Any questions or concerns, I'm happy for you to tag me in this post or an off topic post. X

Same. Touch wood, the menopause has been a breeze for me. A few months of joint pain which seems to have subsided, random headaches for a while but no night sweats. I did have terrible periods and undiagnosed endometriosis so it's been a blessing.

I went through peri from 2017 ish and I had terrible anxiety, which I've always suffered from, crippling dizziness and panic attacks, absolutely hideous. At the time, I didn't make the link with peri and neither did my GP who didn't have a clue. We women put up with a lot, but society doesn't care and is more concerned about hurting Derek from accounts feelings because he feels he is now Daphne and likes to tank off in the ladies whilst pretending to have a period.

Knocks me bleeping sick.

I would explain to your husband that you feel absolutely horrendous and that disturbed sleep/lack of sleep (if that’s one of your symptoms) is making everything seem 100 times worse, and that you feel totally unsupported. And then give him this info to read:

I'm out the other side too now and am OK. My main problem was not joining the dots with all the random symptoms (apart from the big obvious ones) like awful pain at the base of my thumbs, horrendously itchy skin, sadness, anxiety amongst a few. Not helped by my family laughing at me for repeating myself. In the end I explained to them it was causing me great distress as I thought I was getting dementia as I had literally no memory of saying the same thing about three times. They did be a bit better after that. I didn't do HRT as I kept thinking 'oh it must be over soon'. It wasn't.

But sympathies to anyone having a rough and distressing time. I lost my way for quite a while I think. Plus my body just started being odd eg putting on weight, hair being awful etc.

I'm not sure if people here, especially @Brian Butterfield know there is a menopause thread? Which might be useful.

@Brian Butterfield, I found dealing with lockdown and hitting the menopause at the same time awful. I didn’t really have any physical symptoms but mentally it floored me. I just was completely overwhelmed by pretty much everything. Tried natural remedies but ended up reluctantly going on HRT. Took a while to work, but just about back to myself. I know how awful it can be, sending love.

I had the same experience. I don’t know if it was lockdown or peri but my God it was difficult.
