So much of all of this hand wringing and 'debate' can be scrapped if we just take a firm line - men are men and women are women. Let's break down gender norms and challenge stereotypes but do it while accepting your sex and not trying to obliterate the rights of women and children.

I really think so much of this comes from toxic male attitudes towards women which is enabled hugely by easy access to horrible pornography. If men and boys didn't watch staggering amounts of (increasingly hardcore and violent) porn then they wouldn't objectify women so much. There would be fewer women identifying out of being a woman as it ceases to be such a loaded term with all the associated toxic male attention. The AGPs aren't enabled so much and go back to dressing up in their spare rooms.

As a teen in the 80s, there was so much in popular culture that challenged stereotypes. The New Romantic movement was full of men with frilly clothes and make up. I don’t think teens with Duran Duran posters on their walls ever thought they were a bunch of women. Crazy to think in some ways we were more enlightened and accepting of challenging gender non conformity forty years ago.

There's a meme I keep seeing on SM of images of Annie Lennox, Boy George, David Bowie and Prince which basically says, how can boomers and Gen Xers not understand trans people when they lived through the 80s... Because none of those people claimed to be the opposite sex!

I really think gender stereotypes have become more entrenched in recent years. I work at a school and pretty much all the girls have the same look...long, long poker straight hair, sooty eyelashes and rolled up skirts (I've lost track of the number of bum cheeks I see on a daily basis ). There's very little deviation from that. You can see where someone who doesn't fit that mould might start to question themselves.

When I was at an all girls school in the 80s, there was much more variety in looks. Half of us had very short hair, and there were a lot of perms too. I recently looked an old school photo and we were a scrappy looking bunch, not like the glossy looking creatures I see now without a hair out of place.

The reckoning has started and when it finishes it's going to be monumental. It has a way to go yet...the court cases are only just starting and sadly these things do take a long time to play out and they're not as well paced as film and TV make them out to be. And of course, many people are digging their heels in, as always happens when the ground starts shaking.

But it's coming and it can't fail, because this is too big, too obvious and too absurd a lie. Literally not one single person on earth actually believes it and they all show it. There was a post on reddit in their doctorsuk subreddit about the SP case and one comment with a lot of upvotes was incredulous that Dr U was saying he was a female and that sex is changeable etc. and the poster was essentially like I know we say TWAW but we don't believe it. It just boggles my mind that medical professionals think they can't repeat a slogan thats a lie ad nauseum and then be shocked when people believe it. Too many people in authority have repeated the lies that we should not be surprised if people believe it

Its like Santa Claus we tell children its true, if we also told them for years that anyone who tells you Santa isn't real is a bigot and an awful person and trying to deny Santas personhood etc., I wouldn't be shocked if adults in spite of all evidence to the contrary then still believed in Santa and thought the people who said he wasn't real were awful.

I would love this to be true but I don’t know if we are too far gone. As Helen Joyce says, there will be parents that will never back down as they will have to admit that they did the worst possible thing to their own child.

And yet, when a man wants to enter a female space to validate himself, they know a) which space is intended for females and b) which people they think should aurally self exclude from that space if they can't tolerate sharing it with which person.

They know. They do know. They're wrapped in doublethink and Newspeak but they show through their actions that they know. Dr Uphimself understood the question of what he'd do if a patient requested female care because he knew. He and Fife know that it would be impossible for Sandie to bring this case against a female colleague and that it literally requires him to be a man to be possible because they all know. My BIL, with a wife, kids, beard, baritone voice and stated he/him pronouns knew when he organised his daughters into one bedroom and his son in the other.

They all know. They'll lose it when their doublethink is laid on the line - that's why they're losing it now - because they know. If there was no contradiction, they wouldn't struggle.

I’m older than most on here and was a kid in the 60’s, teenager in the 70’s. Here’s a mini gallery of pop stars from my youth, all very strongly identifying back then as male and with hoards of screaming fan girls after them. And no doubt if around now they would be claimed by the trans lobby. Although Marc Bolan would have to tuck and Roy Wood would be classed as non binary as he had make up and a beard.

I wonder what they'd actually do if you started talking about surgery you had years ago or the struggles you'd been through. They'd all know you were a woman. I wonder how far it could go before someone said 'duck off Sue you're not trans!'
