Some good news for Maya:

And some terrifying news for the people of Michigan where residents could face a jail term for using the wrong pronouns. If this new law is passed, it would be akin to living under a totalitarian regime where free speech is denied and opposing gender ideology would constitute a hate crime. This is why I‘m so disturbed by the TQ+ being tagged onto the LGB. I am all for banning conversion therapy for same-sex / bi attracted people. But I’m 100% pro children and young people who claim to be transgender receiving counselling and advice that they cannot change sex and being helped to reconcile themselves to this fact.
It won't pass the senate or it will be met with firm legal opposition. The US constitution 1st Amendment reads:

The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I’ve seen very recently that the Prince and Princess of Wales have posted in support of Pride and I was very surprised to see a lot of criticism for them because of that. It was saddening to see that some people are just straight up homophobic BUT I also saw a lot of comments that people were against the TQ+ aspect, rather than the LGB part of pride. For the sake of LGB people, it would be so great if the trans movement would step away from them, and pursue their own causes rather than piggybacking off LGB activism. It just seems SO UNFAIR to gay people that a backlash is coming on to them because of the deranged antics of TRAs. Sorry if I haven’t articulated myself clearly. Reading some of those comments, I would feel so disheartened if I were gay.
Totally this.
I lived in London in the 90s, when associating with gay people would mean been called a fag hag and worse. I saw how gay people were treated - the 'jokes', the heavy innuendos, the 'you'll never amount to anything', the threats, the 'but of course they'll never have a career'.
I am not gay, but had and have darling friends who are. I saw what they went through, and have always been a true advocate (sorry how it sounds, it's NOT about me). I truly don't care who you like or don't.
But seeing the damage the trans 'activists' are doing to the LGB people makes me absolutely raging. They didn't fight the fight, they didn't live through the open hostility and non acceptance, they have no bleeping idea.
Sorry for the rant.

I agree completely. Trans people are mentally ill and/or pervs in my mind and they have nothing in common with people who just happen to fancy people of the same sex.

Someone I vaguely know, a friend of a friend, has posted on IG about taking her 11yo “baby gay” daughter to her first Pride.

Since when were barely pubescent kids supposed to make decisions about their sexuality, long before they experience genuine attraction or even have a romantic relationship? When they haven’t even left primary school? My child is the same age and none of this stuff is remotely on her radar at all, thank god.

And I can’t help but think this is all for the mum and her liberal cred. She used to buy dresses for her younger son (classic story - he looked up to his older sister and wanted to be like her) and I was convinced she might actually trans him, but that fell by the wayside. I can only imagine her glee at the prospect of having an LGBTQ child again 🙄

Weird to refer to such a young child as a ‘baby gay’ IMO  .

I’ve just been reading a Guardian report on the London Pride march and it seems to be mainly focused on the T - even the photos. This quote from one of the alphabet Just Stop Oil protestors made me laugh though
LGBTQ+ people are “suffering first” in the “accelerating social breakdown” caused by the climate crisis, they added. Of course they are…

Getting children involved in the cheerleading of / protesting for any adult relationship is just plain weird. And I'm sure the children don't give a tit!

Unless you would have as strong a reaction to an 11 year old girl saying they have a boyfriend/crushes on boys, I’d say you’re just homophobic. You can know you feel strong attraction to one sex or the other, even if you’ve never acted on those feelings

Well yes, I would think an 11 year old was too young to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend. Nothing to do with sexuality. 11 year old is a kid.

My post came right after the one about taking her daughter to a pride event, so I should have been clearer. It was the image of a child of about 5 taking part in a naked bike ride that got me thinking about children IN events (rather than just at them. Naked bike ride is still weird, though). I agree that around age 11 crushes start to take a different form. When a child or teenager is at an age-appropriate event it all depends on how the parent handles it. Does the parent have a new project with a label or are they just letting them know it's all good either way?

Homophobic how?

If an 11yo girl told me she had a boyfriend or a crush on a boy I would smile and say “that’s nice” safe in the knowledge that it’s not real. It’s children dipping their toes into a very childlike idea of love and romance. It has very little resemblance to adult sexuality.

I’d think the same about same sex crushes at primary school (I repeat, primary school).

I’m not saying that gay people don’t experience gay feelings as tweens, I’m saying it’s weird and wrong for children to be “coming out” to their parents and being celebrated for their “baby gayness” at eleven when they are way, way too young to fully understand their sexuality.

I’m just not cool with sexualising kids.

I agree. Experiencing the beginnings of attraction to the opposite sex, and the same sex, and occasionally both is normal for young teens. But it's the beginnings, not set in stone preferences necessarily. Kids have enough to deal with as they hit puberty without loaded expectations to act on usually very fleeting preferences. I think we all remember kids "going out with" then breaking up with someone within a 24 hour period. Excellent for classroom drama and extensive gossip - but not in anyway related to their preference or conduct as a sexually mature adult.

Kids who are not even approaching puberty should not even have sexual preference on their radar, why would they? They haven't even started to produce the relevant hormones yet! It says much more about the adults in their lives then it does about their sexuality.

In fact inappropriately early interest in sex is usually seen as a huge waving red flag for possible sexual abuse, and has been for years. I would be taking a very long hard look at the parents of these kids....

This! I'm not sure what their point was. Parents post their kids straight "crushes" all the time. Why complain about the one that says gay? Is it weird? Yeah, but so are the parent that post their straight children.

People definitely know they're LGB at a young age. A lot of us just lie because of homophobia. I hit puberty before I was 11. Idk what make them think they know if someone else's kid has hit puberty when 11 is the average age lmao. Plus you can have crushes before puberty. The only difference is you aren't really thinking of adult things.

ETA: also the dress comment was weird too. Why do you care a boy is wearing a dress? You even stated she didn't go the BS trans route so what's the problem? Boys can wear dresses without being trans which is the whole body point of this sub lmao.
