I was listening to a podcast I generally really like yesterday and they had a special guest on talking about Jeremy Bamber who is in prison for murdering members of his family and the context was that hes recently been refused permission to talk to journalists. Its a podcast that talks about the law so it was mostly about whether putting this restriction on him was legal. One of the guests said something that made me skip back to make sure I hadn't misheard, he claimed that it was unlikely that Bamber had committed the murders because he had never done anything previously and people don't just murder someone out of nowhere. I was amazed, how often do we hear when someone commits an awful crime what a nice person they were and a good neighbour etc.I honestly think that a lot of these deviant men are prepared to play the long game. There are high profile examples such as Thomas Hamilton, the Dublane shooter, and of course a certain cigar chomping DJ. They cultivated an image to get access to victims while being seen as good people- leading the scouts or raising money for charities. OK I know that mass murder of children is extreme, and I’m not making a comparison in deeds, but what I am saying is that a lot of these sexual perverts are prepared to wait until they’ve got to where they want to be in society before they act out their depravity.
It doesn’t matter what their previous background was. They know full well what they’re doing.
Hope that makes sense.
I think humans vastly overestimate their ability to read other people. I think the Traitors is such a great example of this, we are not good interpreters of other peoples actions or intentions especially when they want to deceive us.
