Yes, there's that, but I also think the bigger draw is that it gives Progressive Liberal men, who normally have to smother their misogyny under a pretence of Progressivism, an opportunity to berate and hate on women under the cover of doing good.
It's an inbuilt feature, not a bug, of Far Leftism and Progressivism, that its acolytes tend to be the most vocally hateful and destructive to anyone who disagrees. They also tend to employ Darvo to pretend that it's actually the conservative centre right that comprises the most hateful behaviour (indeed, the deeply dodgy and corrupt group Hope Not Hate, and the hapless posho chaps of Led By Donkeys, have both made rather lucrative careers out of employing this lie, which has brainwashed many).
It's not true. Conservatives and centre right people tend not to wish for the deaths, rapes and career destruction of their opponents. That's because a lot of us are Christian, and those who aren't still believe passionately in personal responsibility, which is a feature, not a bug of conservatism.
Far Leftism and Progressivism on the other hand, tend to dismiss human free will and blame everything bad on faceless structures of patriarchy, capitalism, colonialism, twansphobiaaaaa, blah blah blah. Which makes overt hatred not only permissible but even encouraged.
I strongly believe in all of the above from my own life experience but also because far greater thinkers than I - Aquinas, Augustine, Wittgenstein, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Orwell - also experienced it and wrote about it.
