Thanks for replying @Helena Sell @NorthernBramble ❤

I was a bit overwhelmed when I came out the appointment, I thought I would of just needed an ultra sound so having to do a stool sample and a blood test is a bit daunting as you just never know what they’ll find!

With the omeprazole, I’m not exactly sure why they’d prescribe that, I always thought it was for heart burn

@NorthernBramble - I haven’t had my pain for 2 weeks now, did you use to get it every day? I couldn’t imagine having that constant pain 😖
Hey Pink Lemonade, how have you got on with the ultrasound?

Hey!

Thsnks for asking… So blood test results were normal, stool sample results were normal…
Still waiting to get booked in for a bloody ultra sound, I did have a missed call from my hospital but I missed it (I’ve got a 5 month old baby who is teething so can only go on my phone when he’s a bed!) so hopefully they’ll call back tomorrow 😬
But I’m in 2 minds if it’s gallstones or anxiety attacks, the pain is so so so bad under my ribs and in my chest but I’ve had it twice since I last posted and both times something bad has happened that potentially could of triggered it, so not sure… Like I said, hopefully they’ll call back

I’m so glad to have found this thread. I first got awful debilitating pain in my upper right stomach area last august but it was a one off and I just assumed bad indigestion although it felt like someone pushing their fist into me and lasted 5-6 hours.

Since then it’s only got more intense and radiated up my back to the point I’ve had it 4/7 nights this week and been unable to sleep.

Ended up in A&E last night and had to wait 4 hours doubled over in pain quite literally on the floor gasping for breath. I’ve never known pain like it. They gave me oromorph which seemed to help and it only normally lasts 5-7 hours anyway so I’m through it now but waiting for a call from the hospital to have an urgent ultrasound today.

Im crossing my fingers for a gallstones diagnosis as I can then just get my gallbladder removed via my work private medical and be done with this pain finally 😭 it’s ruining my life, I’m too scared to eat and I’m exhausted from not sleeping 😭😭😭

If it comes back not gallstones and they can’t find a cause I dunno what I’ll do

Ok had my ultrasound and turns out my gallbladder is full to the brim with stones. I’m actually so relieved because I know what is happening.

A surgeon is going to contact me about surgery and until then I need to manage it. Thinking about seeing if I can go via my work private healthcare to speed things up, how long did you guys wait for your surgery (those of you who have it?)

Also did anyone get signed off for a period when they were having a lot of attacks? Mine are so frequent it’s really affecting my work.

I really feel your pain! Literally. I found it was effecting every aspect of my life. I waited 5 months and I was ‘fast tracked’ because I work in the NHS so I spoke to the surgeon about seeing if I could get through quicker because not only was it effecting me but staffing levels because I was having to have time off and some of that was me going off part way through a shift to go to A&E. My dad waited about 3 months and he was done quicker because he was really unwell with it becoming very septic. They’d to wait for it to settle again before surgery. Private will always be done quicker. I’ve heard people getting it done in a couple of weeks privately through their work insurance.

Just had a letter and they’ve booked me in for an ultra sound for 2 weeks time!

That’s mental, I’m in Ireland and with private healthcare if you went to private a&e they would take you in and do it that day/the next day. As a fellow sufferer I feel sorry for anyone having to put up with that for so long x

I went private, had the operation exactly 4 weeks from the date of my initial appointment with the Consultant

I have a surgery date 🥳 3rd August. I went private in the end. I’m hoping the surgery goes smoothly.

I’ve been put on a liver reduction diet for 3 weeks until the surgery so my liver is small enough to get at my gallbladder via keyhole. It’s 800 calories a day and low carb so I’m struggling!

I’m a little shocked I’ve been put on it for so long as my BMI is only 27 and the paperwork they’ve given me suggest if your BMI is under 50 you need to do 2 weeks and over 50, longer. But I’ll do as I’m told as don’t want to risk my surgery not going ahead!

That’s crazy! I have a BMI of 29 and had keyhole surgery, no mention of all of liver reduction diet. I can’t believe they’ve suggested it at 27! I was in and out, less than 6 hours in the hospital in total.

I was actually advised to have a carb heavy meal the night before surgery to help my body cope with it better as well!

I would maybe call and question that, it’s an extreme diet to be following if not completely necessary?

My BMI is over 40 (I am the height of a child and still a BMI of 30 at a size 8) and didn’t have to do any of this

Glad you have a surgery date!
How long did it take for people who didn’t go private? My consultant appointment has been put back twice and is now August 2nd - how long did it take after this appointment for a surgery date?
Im struggling at the moment, only get a bad attack once a month and it’s always the day before a period (sort if TMI!) but left bruised and weak for days after.
Really cannot wait to stop this pain!

I seen the gastroenterologist who then referred me to the surgeon, my appointment was initially 4 months after that but I’m guessing the surgeon didn’t like what he saw in the scan results as my appointment was moved forward 3 months, he wanted to operate 5 days later! I asked for some time to arrange time off from work and had surgery 3 weeks after seeing him. I had a lot of sludge which is apparently worse than stones as it is more likely to move and cause problems due to the size. All in all it was 11 months from first attack to surgery.

Glad you have a surgery date!

I was referred to private from the nhs as I was on a waiting list so long. From the consultation to my appointment on weds, about 2 months . No longer

Well I am now deeply unhappy that I appear to have been singled out with this bloody diet! 🤣

I was a bit shocked when he gave me the paperwork and it said 800 calories. I’ve started it now and if I stop I’ll only worry about jeopardising my surgery, but I have pre op assessments on Thursday so I will be asking why I need to do it specifically. I understand I am a little overweight but I was already losing weight due to not being able to eat much from the gallstone pain!

Yeah the only stuff I can find of people doing the diet (I searched tik tok for ideas of what to eat 😂) is people going on one prior to having a gastric bypass/sleeve, so obviously they have a higher bmi to qualify for that and it makes sense.

my husband suggested maybe he just thought I looked bigger as I had a big hoodie on (charming) but he did weight me so it’s not that. Who knows! I’ll have to stay hungry for now.

That's basically Michael Moseley's Fast 800 diet, isn't it? Supposed to be very good for getting blood sugar levels down, have they ever said that's an issue for you?

No my blood sugar has always been in the normal range, in his letter to my gp about the surgery he even says I’m very fit and healthy (I run long distance a lot) and that my only risk factor is being on the pill and potential for blood clots due to this which he will mitigate during surgery with low dose warfarin if needed.

The diet is a bit like the fast 800 but there was either 800 calories of food as an option or no food, take a multivitamin and drink 2 litres of semi skimmed milk a day, or 5 slimfast shakes… I took the food 😂

This is the sheet they referred me to about the diet:
