Also watching from the beginning again. I thought I’d be really sad watching it but it’s still just so hard to believe that he’s gone. I’ve not been this upset about a celebrity death in years though

I think that’s terrible. It’s affected so many fans all over the world so I can’t even begin to imagine how this is affecting them. As you say they will be processing this and dealing with their feelings. They don’t owe anyone a statement. I’m sure they will issue statements when they are ready.

I know that he wanted to be remembered for his work with other addicts, but the ability to make people laugh is a rare and special gift, and was of no less worth than his charitable endeavours.
More so than ever, we need to try to find humour in our lives, and the fact that a group of total strangers online are still smiling at his performances and at his impeccable comic timing, is a tribute to his talent. The fact that he turned up for work, and (as far as I'm aware), never missed a single day's filming is also a testament to his character. He may not remember whole chunks of his work life, but he still showed up and he still made us laugh, he must have felt absolutely dreadful at some of those recordings.

While I do believe they, like so many people, will be devastated by the loss, I don't think they've been as close to Matthew since Friends ended.
Friends has been over for longer than it was on TV and yes ten years is a long time to work every day with the same people and of course you develop friendships and some of those will develop into feeling like family.
But realistically Matthew was a troubled man, and that can be hard for people to be around. Yes, it's sad but also I think there's a public perception that they all should be super tight and close. Sadly I just don't think they were and now they're having to put out such a statement not for necessarily for themselves but for the benefit of the fans. I'm not suggesting they wouldn't have made comments on their own, but equally it feels as though their grief is being shared.
They're not Rachel, Monica, Joey, Ross and Pheobe grieving Chandler. They're Jennifer, Courtney, Matt, David and Lisa mouring a former colleague and friend, and I think people (no-one in this thread just people generally) need to remember that.
In the same way Matthew himself wanted to be remembered for more than just Chandler. We have to remember they are also more than their friends characters too.
