I thought tonight would be fireworks and excitement. Instead I was nauseous and disappointed.
To quote Bridget Jones "What's the only thing worse than smug married couples? Lots of Smug married couples"

It makes me laugh when they judge people for using excess plastics and tinned beans in a budget B&B when they're flogging pork sausages, eggs, bacon...as long as it's local though. "Locally sourced" is so fucking empty. If we're to believe they're environmentally conscious then perhaps contributing to animal agriculture from their ivory towers needs to be with the aid of a hand mirror.

I'll get off my soap box. Haha.

I think I'm alone in wanting to not be bothered too much by the people running a hotel. "Hello, what do you want to eat? Thanks for staying!". Ideal for me.

Heads Up

NEW SERIES
starting Monday 25 September, new start time of 6.00pm.
Yay .. and about time 😀
I hope they’re properly new!! I’m so over all the awkward “covid” episodes where they’re sat super far apart at breakfast but still did other stuff in close proximity indoors😭 didn’t make any sense ffs

Just watching tonight’s episode and it reminded me of the other dynamic father and daughter duo, the guy with the hat who had technology for everything including an egg poacher…she was bawling at him in the kitchen because it didn’t work, it was brilliant 😂

I’m sure they’d been super critical of everyone’s breakfasts too. Yep, going on the show is a gamble for some folk
Oh god yes, he was a nightmare , needed loads of plugs for his 'tech', ordered different eggs at every breakfast, then they couldn't even manage to deliver any eggs at breakfast time, just a load of shouting in the kitchen!!

Emma made my blood boil! She was SO unbending in her views. When she justified her underpayment at The Lion & Swan because the room wasn’t perfect, she was talking about personal preference in that she wanted a kettle. I don’t think anything would’ve been perfect for her, she was a truly awful individual! For someone who was so particular it was bizarre she was happy to pay £110 to sleep on a sofa bed wedged between two walls 🤯 I also feel the first couple (winners) & Emma ganged up a bit on the others. For me this week the people who came out of the show well were Darren, Jamie & the two girls who were all so gracious despite the game playing!

Think today's place has walked it - 3 Hills in Cambridge. Tomorrow's hosts have a lot to live up to.
I think there was some game playing yesterday because 3 Hills felt threatened 🤔 Emma marked them down on cleanliness for a tiny mark on the bedding yet when the same comment was made about her cushions today she brushed it off. There was a lot of discussion about hash browns in the full English breakfast too yet 3 Hills served hash browns & it wasn’t even mentioned! The first couple & Emma also made a big fuss about the price & whether The Lion (forget it’s name) offered value for money yet she charged the same & I couldn’t really see what extras she added to justify her point. Really not keen on the first couple or Emma this week, they don’t make sense…or perhaps the editing has gone haywire 🤷🏻‍♀️

That was a proper tit for tat week!
That father and daughter were very obnoxious how they came across, haven't they learnt that how they portray themselves will back fire on them??
That place with the amount of dust under bed, I get it they're in the process of doing it up, but it should be clean!
I didn't like any of the places this week, though did like the pair who won!
They deserved to win because they're the only ones who behaved well all the way through 😂

Contestants on four in a bed in general:

" I'm knocking £35 off because you gave me 2 poached eggs. I ASKED FOR ONE. Attention to detail is everything mate "

" Oh and you might want to replace your carpet. I accidentally ripped it up whilst pulling back the wardrobe looking for the tinest spec of dust and you bet, I DAMN FOUND IT - add a £15 deduction for that also. Tut tut Dave, tut tut "

Just caught up, right ones won ( I liked them from the beginning)
Blimey how expensive was some of them? £275 for a self contained room?
As for Maxine and not eating anything, she pretty demolished that breakfast!!
But as a viewer, very entertaining week, as some of those hosts, bad week!!!!

Every time someone mentions they're a chef for so many years you know it's always going to end in disaster.

The miserable women were fuming that they lost because of Hilary’s over payment 😂 Good enough for them , they came across as horrible, don’t think their appearance on FIAB is going to be the good publicity they probably thought it would be.

Tonight's place was expensive, but six could stay there! That couple from last night, they've done themselves no favours this week, the other two couples got together for breakfast ( did laugh how he could lie in hot tub and look after BBQ at same time) the other two, just moaned.

I just cannot take this set of episodes seriously, have Studio Lambert decided to give us a laugh after last week’s debacle and thrown us a spoof week of fun. £400 a night for a room that’s worth about a quarter, if that…. and the other contestants looking like they’ve come straight from Central Casting, three women wearing bad wigs .. if you’re gonna wear a wig at least put it on straight or the right way round. 😹

The first day the father and daughter pair was asked how he liked his bacon and he said "as it comes", you can't be that vague and then complain.

Moaning about plastic and branded items was the most middle class thing ever. They’re a budget hotel so even if you personally would be willing to pay more for an environmentally conscious breakfast, their target demographic most probably wouldn’t. Again, these two just ooze mumsnet.

It’s funny how some contestants seem to think that getting the plaque is everything - forgetting that how they’ve treated the other people is out there too.

I think if somewhere has online that they’re winners, people are just as likely to look into that as they are Trip Advisor reviews. The last few winners have seemed value for money run by (seemingly) genuine people, whereas the same thing can’t really be said for last night’s winners
Yep, is winning a wooden plaque really worth the loss of your reputation, and in some cases the loss of your business 🤫

Apparently Tom has left their place a 5 star review on Google and posted this

We have received some poor reviews from people who haven’t actually stayed here, at the Penrallt Country House Hotel, but watched the carefully edited light entertainment TV programme, Four in a Bed. Neither Angela or I claim to “know better than everyone”, we are always learning; however we do believe that we provide a service and setting that is of high quality and good value - please bear in mind the price quoted in the show is our mid summer weekend rate.

We wish the other contestants the greatest success in their business’. The only reason we said we wouldn’t stay again was because we don’t personally tend to stay in guest houses or self catering, which is a personal choice.

Reviews from paying guests, not being filmed, are almost always positive; and that is down to our incredible team who go above and beyond, and to Angela who works tirelessly to ensure that guests and staff are well looked after. It may please you to know I’m very rarely here, as I work away.

So rather than judging our beautiful hotel, and the people who work here, from a light entertainment TV programme with an agenda, please come and visit us and judge from your own experience. If something isn’t to your liking then please tell us, as we encourage all of our guests, and we will do whatever we can to change it and make your stay a memorable one, for all the right reasons. The 5 stars are for Angela, our team and the beautiful hotel we call home.

While I absolutely agree that it's underhand and spurious to post reviews of anything based purely on an edited TV programme, Tom still comes across as deluded about their value, patronising and unwilling to learn anything. They both had expressions that'd turn the milk too.

I won't forget the 'not our kind of people' remark. Or the cheap looking continental and the meagre cooked breakfast options they had.

It's crazy how people represent themselves on this programme. Naive? reckless? utterly stupid? or maybe a combination of all three. Without question the game can be played, but the game players never really win.
