As a Dutch person myself I feel like Max is often misquoted tbh. I'm not here to defend everything he's said and done, because he did say some stupid things over the years, but sometims I think some people just like to hate on Max because it's easy. He's very direct, honest and upfront and it's easy to make headlines and take things out of context. His portrayal in DTS didn't help either.

Sometimes his Dutch interviews get (badly) translated into English and it becomes something that wasn't said in the original interview. Also works the other way around: English isn't his first language and while his English is far from bad, you can see and hear Dutch sentence structures and grammar being used when he speaks English. Plus he gets words mixed up or uses a stronger word than he intended because he doesn't know the correct word and such.

Like I said, there's reasons to dislike him, but people also hate on him because it's the trend. I think it's quite telling that he gets along with every teammate and every driver (some more than others of course).
