some of the comments i’m seeing directed at george on twitter are wild. people do realise he’s a driver in his own right and not lewis’ sidekick right? he called for soft tyres and got them. lewis didn’t and…… didn’t. i don’t get what he was meant to do or what exactly he did wrong

It's crazy the impact that Seb's retirement has had. Even when Alonso switched to AM, I thought it would just be Piastri taking the Alpine seat & that was it all over. How wrong I was.

I really don't mean to moderate this thread, and if that's the case please be free to report the post. But I feel like this thread was made to be more sport centric, and it's been a lot of thirst postz (a little is always welcome I'm not judging) and tired memes lately from people to take refuge from the other thread. Not really the discussion we usually have.
It's not a big deal, just an opinion.

no not at all - point well made, and taken. as someone who isn’t a fan of the other thread it was never my (or anyone else’s i don’t think) intention to encroach on your space here! it’s all about the balance i think.

i’ll stay here for the race discussions if that’s okay though (provided you can cope with my essays about hating ferrari )

Bloody Alonso. His whole aim for this gp was to prevent Lewis from having a good race. I knew this would happen when I saw they were 3 and 4. Probs I was the only person who wasn’t happy on his return to F1. Jealousy is such a negative trait Fernando.

I enjoy all the F1 content online and that includes teasing drivers/teams etc. The actual hate thing I do not understand. It has been draining recently just reading things and I have had to make deliberate attempts to step back as I consume F1 content for fun.

Not to harp on about various podcasts I've listened to, but in the Bottas one he talked about how close he was to retiring after the 2018 season as he was so mentally burned out & just couldn't take it any more. He had made the decision to retire, but hadn't informed anyone & ended up having a mental shift over the winter break where he felt like he could do it all again.

Poor Alex. That sounds terrifying.

I'm not sure how his body could handle the G forces after all that within a few weeks. Especially a physically demanding track like Singapore. Even if he did have laparoscopic surgery.

I love F1 it has many happy memories of watching it grow up. However I am so over the hate comments guising it as they stans of such and a driver (usually Lewis). I don't hate any driver, I can't hate them I don't know them. There are some I really like and others I'm not keen on. Never would I feel it was OK to hate and some of the comments are damn right disgusting and really highlights what kind of people they are

I'm almost the same, I either love drivers or I'm not fussed. Except for one driver. I do hate. And I only justify my hate because he's still not over it, so I'm still not over it. And that's Fernando Alonso. He is still bitter about Lewis beating him in 07, so I'm still pissed off about how he behaved at McLaren in 07. Was really hard for me to support him when he came back to McLaren.

But even though I don't like him, I'm not gonna be overly personal with my dislike. Just gonna laugh at how he has never gotten over it.

Thank god there’s sane people here! I don’t understand the hate towards George at all. It’s like everyone got so used to Bottas playing second fiddle that they just expect every second driver at Merc to work for Lewis now. Good on George for going for it, he didn’t get into this sport to support someone else.

And don’t even get me started on the Yuki conspiracies.

George is basically the long term replacement for Lewis. He was never going to just sit back as a no.2 driver. And at the end of the day it was Mercedes allowing the pit stop. They could've said no.

it sounds a bit like they sprung the announcement on them tbh! lots of speculation especially that mark webber (who is piastri’s agent) is in australia and so probably asleep right now

i sadly agree re daniel i know it was all speculation but a move to alpine would have been perfect for him - he should never have left them/renault in the first place!
