Thank god there’s sane people here! I don’t understand the hate towards George at all. It’s like everyone got so used to Bottas playing second fiddle that they just expect every second driver at Merc to work for Lewis now. Good on George for going for it, he didn’t get into this sport to support someone else.

And don’t even get me started on the Yuki conspiracies.
Agree re the Yuki conspiracies - RB leaning on AT to cause such a massive duck up to simply avoid RB coming third seems a bit of a stretch

Exactly, and then people saying Yuki was shifty in his post-race interviews. The poor guy is speaking a second language while trying to explain what happened, of course he seems unsure.

The seatbelt thing reminds me of Charles Barcelona 2020, spun and stalled, though that was it then realised he had unclipped it so pitted and retired from the race. Gave me one of my fave Charles pics ever (though it's a sad one too)

Confirmed that Yuki loosened the seatbelt in the FIA document

I've seen this Charles picture so many times and didn't realize it was from the seat belt incident.

George is basically the long term replacement for Lewis. He was never going to just sit back as a no.2 driver. And at the end of the day it was Mercedes allowing the pit stop. They could've said no.

Unless he came in anyway and left them with no choice! 🤣

So glad people are now seeing Lewis for what he is; a petulant child. Don't get me wrong, he's a great driver and has some real skills, but he needs to be a little more graceful in defeat.

George (like Seb) seems to really pay attention to strategy and knows exactly what he should be doing and when to get the points.

On a sadder note. I have just seen a video clip of Daniel talking to Checo and it sounds like he says 'take a year out'. I guessed it was coming but duck I'm gutted.

I’m massively team George. He’s a smart driver and takes advantages of opportunities as they arise. He’s had a fabulous first season at Merc. My suspicion is this will be Hamilton’s last season with De Vries coming in a second seat next year. He was sitting nice and close next to Toto yesterday haha. It’ll be super interesting to have two young, hungry drivers in Merc and the dynamics that produces.

100% this! They’re looking to the future and George is showing he has a head for strategy that makes a good driver!

I find some of the double standards so laughable. Lewis had different more complex set ups to George eg Baku which affected him earlier this season. Isn’t that teamwork? Lewis is a 7 time world champion. If in his eyes, defeat is going to snatched from him - how will he react? If Lewis goes against the team, he’s out for himself. If he follows Team strategy which he did yesterday, he’s not assertive enough. He apologised afterwards to the mechanics and after the grand prix but he’s still petulant. SMH.

i don’t know if it’s double standards as such, i only mentioned it as i thought a lot of the reaction aimed towards george by lewis fans (mainly on twitter) was unfair. lewis can be a bad loser in the heat of the moment but agree that he also usually reflects and is apologetic afterwards. i would have said the same thing about george if the roles were reversed and i also think it’s valid that lewis is in a new team dynamic with a second driver who isn’t going to be as appeasing as bottas was. but i don’t dislike lewis overall at all, i just felt bad for george, whose only “crime” was to make the right call in his own race.

Lewis can’t win no matter what does for so many people. Everyone going on about he’s petulant and a terrible looser. What about Abu Dhabi? He was so gracious after the race, even going to far as to shake Jos’ hand even though he’d accused him of taking drugs the race before.
He apologised for his comments on the radio- which weren’t even that bad in the context of the petulance and anger that some drivers show. He has to be so careful with everything because he doesn’t have the white privilege of the rest of the drivers on the grid
I completely agree. I don’t think the radio comments were that bad - it was heat of the moment and other drivers have said far worse.
I just feel Lewis can’t ever “win“. When he won his titles the amount of time of people said “it’s the car!” Well Max Verstappen’s car is clearly very good but his success is down to his talent. Lewis is “angry” whereas Max when he is angry shows “passion”. That’s what I meant about the double standards.

The car is instrumental in providing advantages to the team but there is no question that driver talent is required to maximise performance and Lewis is clearly a talented driver. And in reality, all drivers are petulant or angry when things go awry during a race so he is no different there.

It just feels like this year with the car underperforming & Russell excelling, there is a somewhat disconnected, dispirited attitude to Hamilton (def earlier in the season) and the team & Toto are continually having to pander to him with grovelling messages about how sorry they are etc. Just my view but I guess as I'm not a Lewis fan, I'm biased 😂

On a side note, unpopular opinion incoming...

I also dislike Ricciardo. Immensely. The fact he refers to himself as honey badger. Gah! Do people even know what a honey badger is?! Fearless, vicious, aggressive, feared by others... Because I wouldn't class goofster Ricciardo as one. And who comes up with their own nickname anyway? Reminds me of a guy I met travelling who decided to introduce himself as "Spitzy" as he'd decided to rebrand himself whilst on a gap year 🙄 I digress, back to himself... The drinking from the shoe. Christ. Somewhat amusing first time, good job he wasn't winning many races seeing as the shoe quickly became part of his cool, fun personality. And don't even get me started about when people praise him as a supposed sex symbol 🤢 Ok, I know all thats harsh but I don't get the adulation for him and couldn't contain it any longer!

fully agreed on the first point, i have a soft spot for daniel though 🤣 but don’t leave!

if we’re doing unpopular driver opinions then i’m not a fan of lando really. his whole snarky gen-z internet boy vibe just isn’t for me and i wish he’d be sincere about things sometimes. i’m very interested to see how he deals with a teammate around his age with the same level of ambition though, he’s lucked out at mclaren so far.

There's no need to leeeaaaave. We're just here to have a good chat.
The thread was vehemently anti Ricciardo for a while, it just come and goes. I don't mind people not liking my favorites drivers, it's part of the fun.
I personally can't stand Sainz and find Gasly annoying; but I still enjoy watching them racing. Really the only one I wish could dissappear from the sport is Alonso #blasphemy

ETA But Ferrari have massively thrown him under the bus this year, and he’s lost a genuine attempt at the championship.

i enjoy fernando’s dedication to being a messy b who lives for drama, but i also get why people wouldn’t like him 🤣 i mostly categorise into my favourites, drivers i generally don’t mind, ones i dislike and then ones i have absolutely no opinion on whatsoever (namely perez, stroll and latifi. sorry lads).

ouch, hit straight to the heart! 😢😉

my sister isn’t a fan either, she messaged me yesterday saying “lol he looks like he’s about to cry” 🤣

I don’t have as much respect for him after the Liger video particularly after he asked people on Twitter to delete it.
