They are not a small business at all, just a couple of greedy mares with dry cake and no scruples.

Would it be there isn’t much actual profit for them? Like yes the turnover looks ok, I have no idea how that compares to other similar businesses, so can’t say if it’s good. The cost of things like butter, sugar, chocolate, the amount they load things excessively must surely cost a fair amount even if bought in bulk/wholesale.

Yeah I think you’re right. They’re still making big money but their costs are going up and up too, I stopped selling cakes partly because of the rise in ingredients costs, especially dairy and chocolate. They’ve said themselves that they’re cutting back on chocolate based products and going for more old school cake etc because it really has increased massively. in the quantities they use the increase must have been huge. Like you say their things are overloaded too so that’s lots of extra costs. I mean I’m sure they’re not struggling financially but obviously not doing as well as they used to be. I quite enjoy them sharing stuff like this, I find it interesting.

I agree. Nobody is going to spend £10 on cookies or a brownie box when the cost of living is so high..!!!! Who has £10 spare to waste on a treat every week like they’re expecting people too. End of the day they need to realise if people want a treat they’ll buy a pack of cheaper cookies or a pack of twelve fairy cakes from Asda they’re not in the real world at all. Supporting a small business is fine but not when they’re overpriced

Singling our teachers is really weird in that post because there’s loads of jobs where you don’t have to work between Christmas and new year?! There are loads of office jobs where the offices are closed in that time, my Mum and sister were saying today they are actually forced to take those days as annual leave because their offices are closed and they work in different industries. If anything it’s probably specific to retail/hospitality jobs that you’re required to work between Christmas and new year?

This is exactly what I thought!
My Mum is off too and my Sister would be too of she hadn't changed jobs.
Both in completely different jobs!

I just don't see what the point is, seems alot of effort compared to just making a classic chocolate sponge and making a swiss roll version. Surely you can make it rich enough with filling choice instead of needing desecrated brownie crumbs?

I guess it just depends on your tastes, I don't really like yule log sponge tbh, it's not the same as normal choc sponge as it's lighter and a totally different texture (Nigella's recipe for yule log has no flour for example) so I like the idea of it but it's such a con charging £6.50 for what is essentially 'make a brownie and mash it up into a log'

I think they need to change things up with their products, it’s the same stuff all the time and it just looks kind of boring now, even how they’re boxed up feels a bit meh - maybe I’ve just followed them for too long lol

Definitely. My favourite local baker is just herself, baking in her kitchen. She is forever coming up with new products and ideas. FB haven’t changed anything in years, they haven’t progressed or developed. They just seem stagnant.

The more I think about this the more bizarre it seems. Especially because she mentioned reducing calories, if you're calorie counting then surely the first thing to go would be products like theirs which you literally can't count because you don't know the calorie value??
