Yeah I think about this a lot. I wonder what he would think of this era of racing and what role he would play in supporting Mick. It would be amazing to see him week in, week out. Really breaks my heart that he isn't part of F1 in the way he should be.
The Nico Lewis thing will never not make me sad. Nico (even though I never liked him) was like the one person who had actually bothered to befriend Lewis and gain his trust, Lewis was very different around him when they were young (similar to Max and Daniel tbh). For it to end like it did, although inevitable, was a real shameYou mean 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg who beat Lewis Hamilton in the same machinery?
It’s such a bizarre set-up with them needing to work together to push the team higher up the standings while also trying to destroy one another’s careers… And they’re in the team’s pockets in a much bigger way than an athlete in any other sport. I just find the whole thing so fascinating.

Seb and Michael were both from similar backgrounds and, unusually for F1, they didn't come from money. There was so much respect from Michael towards Seb, it was lovely to see and now seeing how much Mick looks up to Seb warms my heart. Seb is an angel but he was in Maxs position at one time.....the young gun, Redbull arrogance and dominant car etc etc. The difference is in growth...he left, had a tough (to say the least) few seasons and we are where we are. Difference is a supportive family...Hanna and he have been together forever, quietly married after god knows how many years, no social media prescence for them or the kids and no family pressure...his brother is in racing too but they both hugely support each other with zero rivalry. I wonder if Kelly will stick around if Maxs dominance only lasts 4 seasons....after all, none of watching at the time thought Sebs story would end in 2013....

it’s so sad and a complete waste. at monaco this year when nico was talking about how lewis would come on family holidays with him and they would have the best time etc etc i was watching thinking “are you not mad at yourself for throwing that away?” it seemed a genuine friendship but then nico, by his own admission, just put winning above absolutely everything. i wonder if there’s a degree of regret there, on a personal level.

Or will they be two people who everyone expects to get on like a house on fire and then it‘s just awkward as duck like Daniel and Lando last year! This is why I found it so strange that Ocon was so desperate for Mick to join him at Alpine. Surely you wouldn’t want your bestie competing alongside you because your friendship would be doomed to fail! Although maybe Este is ruthless enough that he doesn’t really care about that and just wanted someone he could easily trounce.oh THAT nico rosberg! he should mention it more often, i always forget!
and the thing of whether their personalities will vibe or is it awkward? will they be a carlos, who seems to get on with everyone, or a max, who had a brief revolving door of teammates (sorry pierre and alex) will they be childhood best friends where one of them for some bizarre reason decides to play mind games on the other and destroy a friendship for the payoff of a wdc? were they best friends once but now hate each other? are they team players or out for themselves?! will one of them forget what multi 21 is?!
it absolutely is fascinating. do they get couples counselling?! i’ll do it for free!

I think there is tbh. Nico mentions him at every possible opportunity, and he even said in an interview after he retired that he’d be open to them “finding their way again” but Lewis, understandably, has never wanted to go down that road again. He did say Lewis gives his kids gifts though which I thought was very sweet, they’re definitely neutral now at least but yeah, a complete waste of what was a really special bond
While we’re talking driver psychology, one of the most interesting aspects is the actual sport itself.
TW WEIGHT/FOOD
The fact that these drivers have to be as light as possible to be successful is so incredibly tough. I’m glad they’ve taken steps (eg minimum weight) however I feel like that’s not enough because the way that competitors are wired just leads to hunting down every little advantage. I’m glad they’re all physically healthy with all the medical check ups and the physiotherapists and nutritionist but mentally? That must be so challenging! I feel so bad for them. My favourite bit I’ve ever read about that came from Valtteri and it really changed the way I saw the sport.
No doubt that this leads to even more conflicts within the drivers themselves if that makes sense, but also with each other.

i feel like there was so much pressure on daniel and lando to vibe that they both became extreme versions of themselves - in that daniel went ott and lando became very inward and sarky, it was so awkward but i’m glad they seem to genuinely get on now.
i thought that was weird from este too! i would want my bff far away on another team, this is why i never want pierre and charles to be teammates (unless it’s OUR team of course). or george and alex! i don’t know if a friendship could sustain that level of pressure before breaking.

Managed to finish the race on the bus, my friends knew not to interrupt what a race, could not have predicted a single part of it. So happy for the McLaren boys 🥹 and for Ferrari!! No major ducks up!! Yay! Charles and Charlotte are just i don’t know how the wags stay looking so fabulous, i would be a gross sweat ball by after 5 mins.
I’m really surprised Lando didn’t get driver of the day (and got so little of the vote) he made no mistakes and made up positions, even testing sainz at some points. Perez was great but the safety car stuff was
(though he absolutely deserved to win and keep that win). Daniel was great too but nothing spectacular imho (I love him and I’m really happy just don’t think he deserved more of the vote). Same with Leclerc.
