They're a bunch of inbred hillbillies anyway, but this surrogacy storyline is the absolute pits. Having a middle-aged woman give her baby away to her granddaughter just because the granddaughter stamped her feet and demanded it, is a horror story at best, especially as we know that the baby is actually Charity's own child.
Instead of the improbable sexual assault story, they could have gone down the actual postnatal depression route, where Charity mourns the loss of her baby, even though the kid is living close by. And maybe they should have made the baby much more unsettled and demanding after being taken away from the woman who grew her for 9 months.
Mind you, that's probably not gonna fit in with their "issue-led" storyline now, is it?

I can’t believe this Cain storyline is going to drag and drag. It’s absolute misery to watch.
I think he was the worst one to give this storyline to, he's always treated most folks like rit, but after tonight's, he shagged his sister in law when Moira was having brain surgery, then Moira found out he tried it on with Chas, he's an absolute scumbag
It’s the whole repetitive ‘I’m okay, I don’t need anyone’ tit. We now have him and Charity at it. It’s a hard watch just now. Especially as they’re an hour.
Cain tried it on with Chas? I know the Dingles aren’t averse to a bit of family loving but surely not his own sister?
He's always been the same, woe is me Cain now, but he's been horrible since he's appeared, I've never liked him!

I still don't understand why they had to have Charity comit adultery with Ross and him be Layla's father rather than have the baby be Mack's.
They could still have gone through with the lie that the baby is Sarah and Jacob's, and even Todd finding out the baby's true parentage and the whole grubby blackmail element. But instead they had to throw cheating into the mix.
Mack being the father and then finding out at some point would have still lead to a dramatic fall out and rock their marriage and family unit because of the lies. The Ross part just seems unnecessary to me.
