Em Clarkson #2

I get the sentiment that mums need to try to look after themselves as well as their baby. However, she should acknowledge she has the constant presence of her husband (on top of childcare for her oldest) to take the kids so she can go running/have an ice bath/go to a pricey fitness class/pay for c-section scar treatment and other pelvic health-related appointments at any time of day. She also has a ton of money to throw at all this stuff. This isn’t realistic for most mums. Self care for the majority of us would be 5 minutes to sit down and drink a hot cup of coffee or take a shower.

I honestly think it’s pretty toxic to follow Em. Especially if you are post partum.

She’s ridiculously out of touch. Her unearned privileges aren’t reality for the 99%. Bringing her baby “back to work” when working is sitting and chewing the large with some mates for a “podcast” just isn’t the norm, feasible or realistic for the vast majority of women. And in her efforts to present herself as some boss babe, it’s easy to forget that.

It’s fantastic Em has the time, money and support network to facilitate her going to her reformers Pilates, massages, coffee dates. But again, most new mothers don’t have the time or money or support to do all this. I’d argue that Em’s time would be better spent shedding light on that fact, but hey, that’s not Em’s purpose in life.

Em Clarkson was born into generational wealth. It’s why she has her big London townhouse. It’s why she’s never had a real career. Her husband - in his media career - is also benefitting from that generational wealth.

For all intents and purposes, Em is a wealthy SAHM with a few side projects (insta, podcast etc) that give her a sense of productivity without demanding too much from her, intellectually, financially or otherwise.

I’d love to see Em tackle the real reasons women struggle PP. lack of support and resources mainly. If only the well off embraced their responsibilities and instead of hoarding wealth and finding loopholes, paid their tax liabilities to fully fund initiatives to help new mothers. Yano, like a certain Mr Clarkson. In my area alone, local mother/baby groups have been shut down because of lack of funding and resources. But you won’t see Em go near a topic like that.

Taking advice on what is good for you, from the likes of Em Clarkson, is a recipe for disaster. Because Em simply doesn’t have a clue. Nor will she ever.

Helps that she doesn’t actually have a real job, so doesn’t have ‘get through the day’ like a lot of working parents with young children who wake during the night. An hour or two recording a podcast where she doesn’t have to be out the door at the crack of dawn, followed by the rest of the day doing whatever she likes, isn’t relatable. Wish she’d just own the fact that she can sleep off the bad nights if she wants to.

Just came over to say her posts popped up for me and I don’t follow her (had kids ages ago) - but can’t see the appeal - Is this like the gen z scary mommy set? Do all of these influencers have to have a munchausen level of drama in every single thing they do?

I’m maybe just jealous of her dedication, but she professes to be all about loving yourself no matter what etc, but is doing her absolute all to get back to her pre pregnancy weight as far as I can tell.
I know she says it’s all about feeling good and strong, but I imagine anyone else who has had a baby at the same time as her might be feeling pretty crap now. We can’t all have a team of dedicated adults to look after our children whilst we go to the gym and run constantly in order to get skinny (because I believe that’s what she’s really after). Just feels a bit disingenuous really.

I think she’s trying to control the controllables after not being able to for 9 mths with hyperemesis in pregnancy. But it should be her own personal journey & no need to show it on instagram now.

I can understand that after having HG myself. As I said, maybe I am just jealous! 😂 However, I remember after her first pregnancy she really focused in on moving her body in a way that felt meaningful and built on her strength. This time she seems almost hellbent on getting back to ‘before’ asap by running daily and going to the gym. But yes, she did have a horrible time of it so if it’s working for her fair enough 🤷🏼‍♀️

Did anyone else clock the story the other day where she's not vegan any more? I thought the way she spoke about food and restricting was quite telling

I thought the same! She wants her kid see her be less restrictive or something. Fits with the theory that for a lot of influencers veganism is just disordered restrictive eating disguised

But you can be vegan and eat a massively varied diet! Maybe she just fancied a slab of cheddar and can't admit it....

What was with the ‘I don’t know how I feel about that yet’ - do these ‘influencers’ overthink things too much? They have to think about every little thing and over analyse - surely if you’ve made that decision to eat something you previously haven’t you’re okay with it?

Influencer disregarding a trendy cause when it no longer drives engagement and money?! I’m shocked!

I dip in and out of vegetarianism/veganism, have done for 10 years. I love meat, but ethically I’ve found it difficult to reconcile eating meat with my values.

However, I also had very disordered eating habits. When I was first interested in plant based diets about ten years ago, it was definitely a way for me to restrict what I ate and justify very restricted eating to myself.

Veganism/vegetarianism is so so much more accessible than it was ten years ago. So I don’t understand the argument that she doesn’t want her kids to see her restricting her eating. Being vegan isn’t really all that restrictive anymore.

Wow went to the ‘big boy weights section’ of the gym and owned it…except there was literally not another person in there. Not saying the weights section of the gym is never intimidating, but if it’s empty…. 🤣

Wafflebollocks about the beauty of natural skin whilst caking on concealer, foundation, eye shadow and bronzer. Pamela Anderson can talk about the beauty of natural skin Em but your heavily made up face really shouldn't

She's doing an awful lot of exercise for someone who was going to take post partum fitness slowly....

Just found this thread and have to agree. It’s doing it all, then complaining it’s all too much. I get that she spent 9 months very sick, but why not ease yourself back into activities than feeling the need to be back at 100% straight away. Between her and Alex, they both contradict a lot of what they preach with their actions
