I am so glad my kids are grown up and the elf wasn’t a thing when they were little. I struggled to remember the tooth fairy so would never have coped with having to get creative with that lanky legged little fucker.

The dummy thing is so cute, I love that.It’s my first year doing it with my 3 year old, I have just told him the elf has come to stay until Christmas and that he might get up to some mischievous things in the night if he’s a good boy. I’m hoping that Xmas eve when we say goodbye to him that my 3 year old will let him take all his dummies to gift to all the babies that need themso I’m kinda using it for that purpose haha. But at this age I don’t think he really gets the concept of being good otherwise u end up on the naughty list so I haven’t said that as like u say unless your actually not gonna give your child some presents then what’s the point
We have an elf, I quite enjoy it purely for how special my daughter finds it. She loves looking to see what the elves have been upto over night. That being said, our elves have never been here to watch her behaviour and report back to santa! They just hang around for December and generally cause mischief that doesn't make too much mess for me to clean up 
they bring little Christmas crafts and things too. Tbh they painted dads toenails gold last year I felt was a completely brilliant idea on my part

I don’t do it - people jump on bandwagons like this then post their elves exploits all over Facebook every day (as if anyone wants to see)
One of my boys teachers told the class her childrens elves brings them sweets and treats every day. Brilliant. Thank for that you dumb cow now my child is gutted he doesn’t get tat every day from a crappy elf and wonders why the “elf” doesn’t visit him...
It’s just another way the true meaning of Christmas is lost.

I don’t have kids and don’t really get it. I thought the idea was for the elf to watch you and make sure your good? When did all the naughty elf stuff happen?

If I did it, I’d just leave little Xmas activities to do with the kids from the elfs.

Exactly I had a cheap advent calander and somenew pjs for December and Christmas eve evening I was allowed to open one present a family member had put under tree

My kids got to get their advent calenders off the top of the fridge because I forgot to get them down last night. I win at parenting
I never did start it but I’d be the same! I put chocolates in the advent calendar that has little drawers, that’s enough excitement.I wished I had never started
My elves really aren’t that deep, they turn up on the 1st December and bring advent calendars and turn up somewhere new everyday in really unimaginative scenarios because I can’t be arsed
I couldn't be arsed with all that Elf business. When I was little we had a satsuma in an old sock with a 5p piece and 2 quality street and we thought we had total luxury.
