I believe her but agree that the way she has written it is very confusing and she would have benefitted from getting someone (anyone!) to proof read it before submission or gone through official PR, seems such a shame to go through the effort of keeping everything hush to then reveal all in such a scrambled manner.

Also did none of her family or friends report her missing?! How long was she gone?

I read her statement fairly quickly but I got the impression that she had informed the police a few times? She said at one point the name of the perpetrator will stay between her and the police? Unless I'm really misreading here does that mean it has been investigated?

I think she mentioned that she spoke of it twice to police officers but I don't think it was in an official capacity/on the record statement (but I might be misremembering).

EDIT: Just had another look and she said she mentioned it when reporting other incidents (blackmail and a break in) but it doesn't seem to have been its own case.
Others may disagree but I can understand why not, since sexual assault cases are notoriously difficult to convict (especially after time has passed) and trials, etc, can be traumatic experiences in themselves. Even reporting is no guarantee that something will be done, unfortunately.

I somehow just learned the story about Duffy’s abduction and rape. Now I’m completely intrigued. So she went out for dinner for her birthday, was drugged, flown abroad and kept in a hotel where she was raped for several weeks. I have so many questions….
Unless she went out for dinner with her actual passport, the abductor had access to her passport, how did she get out the country? If say it was a private jet do you need a passport?
Where did her family, friends or management team think she was for weeks on end? Did nobody report her missing?

I agree with you totally.

I am not suggesting that nothing has happened, but I cannot see how it happened in the way described - at least in that original description that was posted in 2020.
I’m not sure if any other information has been disclosed since then, as I am out of the loop.
The original details I read a while back, do not add up.

I think it’s insinuated that it was her partner or someone she was close with doing the abducting? But I agree it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

I wonder if she is ready to put out new music but knows it will be difficult with so many questions hanging over her. This way she is able to tell her story on her terms and draw a line under it of sorts.

I remember something feeling so off at the time. To be clear, I absolutely believe her but this story is tangled.
That wales online article referenced a few pages back is absolutely a hit piece. Someone paid or pushed to get that printed and that someone was on the team of whoever did those things to her. The piece presents itself as a ‘whatever happened to Duffy?’ But the objectives of the piece are to make Duffy look like an emotionally unstable and untrustworthy woman who has substance abuse issues and was not coping with fame. I actually had chills reading it and wouldn’t be surprised if it came out around the time of the sexual assaults and kidnapping.

Its getting really murky isnt it, who is this guy in Dubai I've seen mention of? Is she safe to speak out now? In light of recent stories of rich men trafficking girls on planes it's now clearly not out of reach for this to be true as was questioned when she first came out with what had happened to her. In fact its a real illustration of how hard it is for people to speak out, I wonder if anyone connected to the man in dubai posted here originally and suggested it was a made up story to add fuel to fire, hmmmm

Since she initially spoke about it, it did come across like there were some very important details of some kind missing to be honest. The story just didn't quite link together for me.

But it's clear she's been through some sort of big trauma and she's brave for speaking publically about it. I hope she is doing well and is continuing to heal. I love her first album still.

I think things become ‘murky’ when the victim doesn’t fit the perfect victim mould.

The only time women get the full support, trust and sympathy of the public is when they are basically snatched / raped/ killed by a stranger in the dead of night. If they are known to the perpetrator, it immediately becomes their fault (the daily mail will find a way). If they have substance abuse problems which many people suffer from to some degree, especially in the public eye then they become an unreliable narrator who the public often turn on.

Duffy may well be trying to address it once and for all so that she can return to music in her own terms but it seems like she will have thought for long and hard about it, knowing that she will be exposing herself to the public jury, and the public consciously or not term to like any excuse to hate a woman.

I always thought that her original explanation sounded so odd because she was traumatised and for whatever reason didn't want to give very full details. Which is fair enough.
I feel like there might have been a rumour about it being a manager or record company type?
To be fair the way she told her story puts me in mind of Michaela Coel who was drugged and grasped, and that young girl who was a model who was lured abroad and drugged for weeks by the fake photographer.

Chloe Alyling. I think with her specifically it was just weird how she tried so hard to become famous off the back of being a kidnap victim and that's why so many didn't and still don't believe her, although recently she disclosed an autism diagnosis so that makes much more sense of things imho.

That’s her. She absolutely didn‘t “behave like a victim” but she got the wrong end of the stick, she wanted to be famous or be an influencer so she was posing and preening when she was invited on telly, as she said the kidnapping was in the past by then. The autism makes sense there as well.

just seems like 3 women who all didn't tell their story the way people expect and then they were on trial. Seems to me that trauma makes them act quite similarly and it’s not at all suspicious. I suppose it depends what you know of trauma.

I remember when I first read the story I got the impression that her partner was somehow involved in the kidnapping and that the country she was taken to was a Middle Eastern country where he had a lot of contacts. I don't know now if that is what I read or just the impression I got from the story.

There’s a blind item saying it was the lead singer of an A list group. It would make sense if he’s not British as it would explain why they didn’t prosecute.
