Downright insulting!

When I was about 21 stood having my break at work this awful old bitch (she also worked with me) just said to me 'when you put weight on does it just all go to your stomach'
Everyone was shocked that she had said that and I was so upset, I was the thinnest I had been after losing weight and having issues for years about how I looked. I didn't even ever speak to her, didn't really know her, didn't want to know her as she was just awful at work. A proper bully.

Totally random. Many years ago I was walking along a road and some man heading towards me had to comment as he passed that I was the most disgusting looking female he’d ever seen. Quite frankly he looked pretty grim himself and his opinion was of no consequence, but how rude to make such a nasty comment to a total stranger.

That's so awful. When I was about 17 and walking to work, some random old guy felt the need to tell me "cheer up love it might never happen". I wasn't in a bad mood, I was just a young girl minding my own business with a neutral expression on my face, but it made me self conscious after that that I had resting bitch face. Even now I have this urge to smile a bit when I pass someone. Strange how these things stay with you.

Wow! Parents can be delightful.. I’ve lost 3 babies, I had 2 miscarriages and lost my first son when I was 5 months pregnant. When I finally got my first baby that I got to full term with (he’s 13 now) my mum booked a holiday around my due date because SHE couldn’t cope with anything going wrong! We now have a relationship on my terms and I keep her at arms length lol

Being asked to show proof of age last year, aged 27!!! In Sainsbury's was downright insulting. I have earned these wrinkles! Tesco only for me from now on.

My brother in law said to me whilst staring at me in my shorts ( a long time ago - never to be forgotten) :
" Those legs would hold up the Trump Tower Plaza".
I had gained weight, but wasn't fat - at 5'8" and just under 11 stone.
The tears stung my eyes, I can tell you.

Some brother-in-laws are just a pain in the arse. After going on a diet - many moons ago - and trying desperately to eat the right non-fattening foods, I cut myself a slice of melon. My arsehole of a BIL immediately commented - Are you eating AGAIN?!

Same here, I have a bank of comments over my physical appearance which my lovely parents, especially my mum would refuse to believe. My appearance and build is definitely why I'm single, but one incident which springs to mind was when a younger boy told me his sister (who I really liked) hated me. I asked why she would hate me when she didn't know me and the reply was, 'Probably your nose and your teeth.'

Yep, I'm a real catch.

10 times out of 10 it’s always the very unfortunate looking types that feel the need to project and make themselves feel better.

I can relate to so many of the critical Mum comments - it really does stay with you and the whole sticks and stones theory does not apply at all IMO.

I remember this little shit of a boy in Year 8 loudly saying "you've got a big nose" to me in front of my class. I just wanted the ground to swallow me up and still think of good comebacks I should have said to this day lol - 20ish years later lol. I've grown to love my nose but wished for a nose job for most of my teenager years thanks to comments like that

I was on the tube, standing up, reading and minding my own business. Woman on a seat in front of me (deffo a Mumsnetter) pipes up loudly, ‘excuse me, would you like a seat?’

A bit nonplussed, I said no thanks, I’m fine. The conversation then went like this:

Her: Honestly, please sit down.
Me: No, I’m not far from my stop, it’s fine.
Her: But you‘re pregnant!
Me: I’m not pregnant.
Whole carriage: Sharp intake of breath
Her: Oh!

30 seconds later:

Her: Are you sure? I thought you were because of your flat shoes and your scarf.
Me: death stare

So. Fucking. Rude.

WTH!!! That has happened to me before 🫠 I did announce “just food!”

A discreet wave, gesture, quiet ask, and leave it if they don’t want it!

I have loudly shamed a city boy for rushing to beat a heavily pregnant woman (badged!) to a seat she was headed to once.

my partners (odd) Irish aunt who i have never met (friends on fb) messaged me once to ask basically why I am still fat when i train and compete in triathlons I was offended to start with and then found it hilarious! I am still fat Geraldine because I like beer and food and my training keeps it stable!

I find it a bit insulting when people think I'm younger than I am , too. I started a thread about it .

I understand the need for enforcing age restrictions , and that some people may be crap at guessing ages . It's the things they say when they find out someone is much older than they thought.
