The first (and last) time I met my friends mum, she said to me 'you'd be attractive if you sorted out your weight problem'. I was a size 18. So overweight, yes, but not a candidate for my 600lb life.
Worse was when another friend (back when we were teenagers at uni, and I was a size 14...but this was pre vanity sizing so more like a 12 now) was talking about when she was at her fattest, and said to me 'well of course I was never as big as you'
She was a size 16-18, I saw her old clothes (and photos). She was also 6 inches shorter than me so looked bigger too.
I've held onto that grudge for over 30 years!
Edited to add: she also told me a few other pearls of wisdom, that my curly hair was common and that more men would be interested in me if I dressed more acceptably! (and had straighter hair of course).
Oh, one more...I come from a poor background, grew up in a HA house. First person in my family to get a degree (and a law degree at that).
After I graduated a girl I knew from school told me that uni was a waste of time for me as I didn't manage to get a boyfriend there
