Downright insulting!

Ok, just a fun sort of thread. But please do feel free to have a rant about any other insults/slights/put-downs you've ever had to get it off your chest. :)

Has anyone ever insulted you - by accident - or whatever? (it can happen!) And imo, an unintended insult stings much more than a direct insult.

I'll start ...

Not that I'm bitter and harboring resentment or anything against this person, you understand ... even though it happened more than 30 years ago ... but one day a woman in work asked me if I knew who was standing outside our workplace waiting for a lift home the previous day. The conversation went like this:

Her: You stand outside work waiting for a lift home, don't you?'
Me: Yes.
Her: Was there anyone else with you yesterday?
Me: No, don't think so, only me.
Her: Oh.
Another work friend: Why are you asking?
Her: Just that my son came home last night and said there was a nice looking girl standing outside our work at finishing time and asked me who she was.

. Pause
. Pause
. Pause

Then Her again to me: Are you sure there was nobody else?

witch!

As I say - not that I'm still bitter or anything ... 😉

My mum does it on the regular

My friend bought me a framed cartoon picture of 2 girls shopping for my 30th - was basically 2 skinny girls with shopping bags and it was supposed to be us

Mum looks and it and goes “that’s nice, shame you don’t look like that though” in front of all my family

First of all I love that there's a thread for this...
Secondly my Nan is this person, you could argue that it's her generation but her brother is the complete opposite of her.
Just a few... at my cousins wedding she patted me on the stomach and told me I looked as pregnant as she did when she was full term with my aunt (I was a Size 12 at this point so not exactly massive). Last year she told me and I quote 'you can tell you've gained some weight, the stairs are bending under you' (she's got those wooden stairs that don't have anything under them sort of ladder like) AND that was whilst I stayed with her for a week instead of going away as she'd just come out of hospital. Then the other day she told me that if I've bought a tight dress for a wedding I'm going to then I should buy a new one as the one I wore in the previously mentioned comment was too tight and I shouldn't wear a tight dress. No wonder i have a complex about how i look...

Recently my boss complimented me on how far I've come since I started there. I thought he was being nice for a change and felt good about myself for about 5 seconds until he added he didn't know how I blagged the interview :cautious: prick.

I was on the tube, standing up, reading and minding my own business. Woman on a seat in front of me (deffo a Mumsnetter) pipes up loudly, ‘excuse me, would you like a seat?’

A bit nonplussed, I said no thanks, I’m fine. The conversation then went like this:

Her: Honestly, please sit down.
Me: No, I’m not far from my stop, it’s fine.
Her: But you‘re pregnant!
Me: I’m not pregnant.
Whole carriage: Sharp intake of breath
Her: Oh!

30 seconds later:

Her: Are you sure? I thought you were because of your flat shoes and your scarf.
Me: death stare

So. bleeping. Rude.

WTH!!! That has happened to me before 🫠 I did announce “just food!”

A discreet wave, gesture, quiet ask, and leave it if they don’t want it!

I have loudly shamed a city boy for rushing to beat a heavily pregnant woman (badged!) to a seat she was headed to once.

Yes, it was the fact she persisted, even after I said no. The whole carriage heard her and I was just so embarrassed.

I've never wanted kids, and my mate at time knew my stance.

He said to me once

"What's the point in you then if you don't want kids?"

Quite flabbergasted, I said what about women who want children but can't have children?"

Him - "you should all be put down!"

We aren't friends anymore.

Can guarantee it was her behaviour which people will be judging, try not to be embarrassed! I imagine every woman on the train came home and vented about the hole, and we’re horrified on your behalf ❤

A militant Christian in a backpacking hostel once went well out of his way to tell me his pastor said it was important to consider marrying ugly women because they might have a good heart compared to attractive ones 🤣
I explained I wasn’t keen on men who were both ugly and stupid and it didn’t go down at all well 😜

Most people would have been so embaressed and apologised to you profusely!! The fact she tried to turn it around and blame you for what you were wearing is disgraceful, believe me everyone in the carriage would have been thinking negatively of her not you!

We had an apprentice start at work (they lasted a whole 6 weeks before resigning) but she said to me ‘I like your name Norfolking, if I had a horse that’s what I’d call it…’
No answer to that one 😆

I was once told by an elderly relative that I had a body "like a farmer's daughter" and my child-bearing hips made me look like "a Russian peasant". I told her that was better than looking like a shriveled hag. She was offended 🤣🤣
