Downright insulting!

My boyfriend is a doctor and I had the displeasure of going to social events with three of the worst people I have probably ever met who were also doctors. Idk how he even made friends with them in the first place because they have nothing in common apart from work.

Once we were at this awful meal with them and they were speaking about how busy work was. I also work on the same site in the nhs, but I am office based and I agreed it’s been quite manic recently. This snotty cow looked at me and went ‘but how could you be busy?’ Sorry forgot only doctors are allowed to be busy 😂

not the only rude comment made when in that groups company and my bf has distanced from them after seeing how they treat non medics in social settings

Being asked to show proof of age last year, aged 27!!! In Sainsbury's was downright insulting. I have earned these wrinkles! Tesco only for me from now on.
I find it a bit insulting when people think I'm younger than I am , too. I started a thread about it .

I understand the need for enforcing age restrictions , and that some people may be crap at guessing ages . It's the things they say when they find out someone is much older than they thought.

I can understand expecting people up to age 21 to prove it but now it is becoming 25 plus and over! We have lived to a level of maturity, so should be given the respect earned. I have lived without any parental guidance since my mother died when I was 20. I have paid bills, cooked, cleaned, worked, paid taxes. So I do not appreciate being treated as a child after all of these years!

My brother in law said to me whilst staring at me in my shorts ( a long time ago - never to be forgotten) :
" Those legs would hold up the Trump Tower Plaza".
I had gained weight, but wasn't large - at 5'8" and just under 11 stone.
The tears stung my eyes, I can tell you.

Some brother-in-laws are just a pain in the a. After going on a diet - many moons ago - and trying desperately to eat the right non-fattening foods, I cut myself a slice of melon. My hole of a BIL immediately commented - Are you eating AGAIN?!

My mother...
On the day she dropped me off at uni.. we were walking behind another student when my mum pipes up "that's how nice and skinny you'll be soon, as you won't be able to afford food, being a student". That was 24 years ago and still vivid.

..perhaps because tonight, my toddler has these cards (with animals and people on) and my mother says "she immediately recognised the mummy card. I mean, she's short, large and ginger". I'm not short, but I tick the other boxes.

I have so many mother comments, but have only just realised, in the last few years, just how cruel she's been my whole life.

The first (and last) time I met my friends mum, she said to me 'you'd be attractive if you sorted out your weight problem'. I was a size 18. So overweight, yes, but not a candidate for my 600lb life.

Worse was when another friend (back when we were teenagers at uni, and I was a size 14...but this was pre vanity sizing so more like a 12 now) was talking about when she was at her fattest, and said to me 'well of course I was never as big as you'
She was a size 16-18, I saw her old clothes (and photos). She was also 6 inches shorter than me so looked bigger too.
I've held onto that grudge for over 30 years!
Edited to add: she also told me a few other pearls of wisdom, that my curly hair was common and that more men would be interested in me if I dressed more acceptably! (and had straighter hair of course).

Oh, one more...I come from a poor background, grew up in a HA house. First person in my family to get a degree (and a law degree at that).
After I graduated a girl I knew from school told me that uni was a waste of time for me as I didn't manage to get a boyfriend there 🙄🙄

I can relate. My mother has said many comments about my weight over the years. I still vividly remember her saying how i had a lot of "puppy large" It's also extremely rare to have a compliment from her. It's no wonder my self confidence is on the floor!

I had a lady at school gates ask me, are you pregnant again!?! Obviously not! 12 months post partum and just a bit overweight. But who says this to someone? I felt so ashamed.

A man in work, who I wasn’t even friendly with. Came up to me and said ‘wow you’ve lost alot of weight’ I smiled, didn’t know what to say, he said ‘no seriously this is horrible’ I said it’s none of your business, he replied ‘are you like anorexic or something’. I tore him a new hole. He will never speak on another woman’s weight again after I finished with him

I once mentioned in the presence of my (now-ex) father in law that I had backache. He replied “I’m not surprised, dragging that bum around with you”. RUDE!! 😳

Went to the self checkout in Tesco with a Red Bull, which apparently is age restricted.

Till flags the purchase as restricted.

I had a mask on.

Girl at the checkout looks over at me, wondering whether to approve the purchase remotely from her till.

At this point I still had a hope in hell of being mistaken for being under 25.

The second I pulled down my mask she approved the purchase no questions asked.

Reading this thread, just wanted to say some people are absolute holes aren't they?!

Also lots of sympathy to those where it's a parent making the cruel comments ❤❤ I always think that in life your mum and dad should be your biggest cheerleaders, mine always were.

It still amazes me that people think they have a right to comment of someone's weight mind your own bleeping buisness 😤

Honestly I could write a book on the nasty things my mother has said to me. Nearly all appearance based. The high point was on my wedding day when I asked how I looked literally about to walk out the door, she said my dress was nice but it was a shame you could still see my lower tummy sitting out a bit.

THIS! One of the nicest compliments I've ever had in my life - and I've never ever forgotten it, nor the person who said it - was when I'd lost a lot of weight, and obviously people did comment on it, but this one person (a man as it happens) said to me: 'I see you've lost a lot of weight, but you know, there was nothing wrong with you before you lost it anyway'. God bless him.

... Which was just as well cos I put it all on again. And some! :ROFLMAO:

When I was about 21 stood having my break at work this awful old witch (she also worked with me) just said to me 'when you put weight on does it just all go to your stomach'
Everyone was shocked that she had said that and I was so upset, I was the thinnest I had been after losing weight and having issues for years about how I looked. I didn't even ever speak to her, didn't really know her, didn't want to know her as she was just awful at work. A proper bully.

Next time someone insults us we shouldn't just take it, we should confront them and say "Why did you just say that? That was really rude" preferably loudly in public, so that people turn and look at them. They wont be expecting that and it'll make them look like a right a :giggle:
