No they didn't say, only that it went down to 30. He is only slight 6kg, they did say they would probably refer him to a specialist. I'm just not sure I can put him through it again.

If they do it might be best to go to a specialists with anaesthetists (probably most have them), your vets may look for this as well if they were worried about the anaesthetic?
I thought it would've been a CT rather than MRI but maybe there's a reason

Ha I rescued so my dog wasn’t a baby but I stopped being so anxious after the first big anti sickness vet bill

My pup is 10months old. He is not a food orientated dog at all. So it's hard to train him as he isn't really interested in treats especially after a few, I found he loves salmon and mackerel and will focus for them. But his main meals are my issue. I ended up putting him on raw as a puppy in the end after about 5/6 months of dry/wet mix. Even the raw he isn't overly fussed on but he will eat it and it helps that he needs a lot of it over the other food, he needs around 150g raw Vs 100gbdry but the dry seems a lot more Vs over a big tin (400g) wet!
Does anyone know either a good dry food where they don't need many grams to meet their daily requirement or recommend a raw food that isn't too expensive. I did really want a diet with grain in though and I can't find a raw diet with grain in.

I'm decided I'm going to be strict lifting his food up after 15minutes for a bit see if it helps but if not maybe I'll try this thanks! The raw food also takes up too much room in the freezer

Maybe that's why he's so keen, because I'm not giving enough? His weight is perfect though, and we've been using it for a few months now. I guess I might need to increase it a bit now the weather's cooling and we can do longer walks again. He's been sat by his bowl waiting this morning, which is literally unheard of!

My dog has undergone IVDD surgery this week, she was rushed in and confirmed it was stage 3. If anyone has had similar experience and have any advice I’m all ears
I’m currently fretting that she has a blood stain coming through on her bandages although the surgeon did tell me some staining is normal if it’s seeping through that’s a a different story

Fuming. My dad's dog (I live at home) had to go to the vet as his anal gland burst quite badly. I did tell my dad to take him in ages ago to have them expressed but he said no. Woke up with him bottom covered in it and red raw and burst. All new vets at the practice I've gone to for decades and I told my dad to take the stuff we have for handling him when he's snappy which he is as he's in pain. No he said they should have all that there. They had nothing that fit him. Vet did a rush job, didn't clean him up or anything just antibiotics and stuff to fim his poo. I've told my dad his poo is runny lately because he keeps giving him table scraps. I said stick to his normal food. So he's paid for a massive tub of this stuff which I know the dog will never eat as he's so fussy. The poor thing can't even sit down but was given no pain relief. It was a total rush job with a vet who seemed not to have the patience for him at all! His repeat to go back to the same vet I cancelled and booked in with the one remaining vet who knows the dog well and can handle him. He wasn't available today so I had to go with a new vet.

All my dogs had this issue which I kept on top of by expressing their glands or getting someone to do them. All the same dad giving them table scraps. I'm so angry with both my dad and this new vet. My old vet never ever recommeneded anal gland removal because of certain risks but this one has said they'll have to be removed if it happens again. Now I have a dog here in pain, who is covered in anal gland crap plus the obvious blood and who will never eat the massive pot of stuff the given him for fibre. The size is just ridiculous for a dog his size he won't even though it and he'd honestly take a year or more to get through it if he did! I asked him for painkillers not given as he is in real pain and I've never seen a burst gland look so bad in all my years.

Dad never bloody listens to me. He once gave my little Chi a whole man size handful of salted peanuts that made her very illl ending up at the vets. I've siad the odd thing is ok but it's every tea time and I noticed he's been having runny poo. I explained it needs to be firm to help push out the rubbish from the gland. I feel so sorry for poor Barney.

My dog is super fussy but still ate the stuff to firm up his faeces in chicken (he had VBS clay so might not be the same thing but sounds similar).
Could it also be your dad didn't accept certain things from the vet, didn't listen to them like he isn't listening to you? Maybe if you called and said he came in today and your wondering if some pain medication can be given they may say you can pick some up?

Poor lad, at least he has you looking out for him. Would Chappie be worth a try for firming poos if he's fussy? My old lad has colitis flare ups and has Chappie every day now and it's great for the old bowels.

No he's on a very good brand of food he loves now but it took a lot of trying different foods to get him on a good decent brand he will eat but dad gives him so much of his food he hardly eats his own food. Hence now runny poo and the gland issue. I actually booked the appointment before it burst as I coud tell he was acting strange and he was snappy. Thank god I did but it burst before the appintment sadly and it's quite bad, he must have dug at himself all night as all up his tail is bloody too. I just managed to give it all a proper good wash with Hibbiscrub which my previous vet always advised to use as it's antibacterial. He's had his antibiotics but not touched that stuff mixed in his food.

Just found this thread and am hoping for some advice please. I'm desperate for a dog, I've always wanted one but have never been able to until now. We have a kitten so I feel the time is right whilst the cat is young, firstly before they get 'set in their ways' and also to get any kitten/dog/puppy madness all over at once. My 18 year old daughter is scared of a family dog that isn't properly trained/exercised or neutered and behaves appallingly because of this, despite not being scared of any other dogs. I have tried to explain that not all dogs are like this crazy dog, that I research the right breed for us, that the dog will be neutered, it will be trained both at home & at classes plus exercised daily to avoid all the things our family have done wrong with their dog. I do not want a dog that I cannot control & properly care for. I am struggling to ask her to try & understand that not all dogs behave that way (though she's been around other dogs all her life & us aware of this) Has anyone experienced similar? Any ideas on how we can move forward from this? The kitten was brought for her as she very much missed our old cat we lost, I feel like I've done that for her, yet she won't even try to meet me halfway? Sorry for the long post, thank you.

Rather than buying a puppy, you could start looking at rescue centres so you know what temperament you’re getting, and involve your daughter in any meet and greets with the dog.

If that still doesn’t get you anywhere… at 18 she may not wish to live with you for that much longer, I’d wait rather than risk her feeling afraid in the family home. If she wants to take the kitten with her eventually that eliminates that issue too - although my rescue dog was advertised as no cats, we’ve now got her living with two older rescue cats, so it is doable.

Do you know anyone with a well trained dog you could borrow for a weekend? Or whilst they go away? Then you can tell her it's only staying a few days/a week and will be going home. Then she may see it's not bad and if she still finds it bad then the dog is going back anyway so it's not like a long term thing. Or what about fostering? I know someone who had their guide dog looked after by a carer as they were unable to care for it whilst it was ill. I just googled as well hearing dogs look for volunteers that will do short term care for their dogs which involves you helping keep up their training and going to classes so that may be helpful in showing her what you'd do with your dog? There's also the cinnamon trust where you can foster as well whilst the owners in hospital although you'd probably not know how well behaved they would be. Or for the cinnamon trust you can even just volunteer to walk a dog if you wanted to slowly build up your daughter being around a dog maybe could do that with her?

Fostering is definitely worth a try , some rescues have known cat friendly dogs available. I'd contact some local, smaller independent rescues and go from there. Obviously you would have to take some time off work to settle the dog so be prepared for that.

It was easier than I could have imagined! She doesn’t get on with new dogs, so I can see how the rescue assessed her as no cats, but honestly she barely registers that they exist now except to cry at me for help if one of them has stolen her bed. The cats can still be wary and will scratch her if she’s being too boisterous around them.

We took it slowly, separate rooms at first, then allowed them to mix with her on lead, lots of feeding around each other and lots of handing out treats. She’s muzzle trained which definitely helped with my stress levels.

It was a new relationship that would have been made very difficult if they hadn’t have been able to mix… or if she’d eaten one of them so it wasn’t like I had to tell the rescue I had a cat at home when I adopted her. But just goes to show their assessments aren’t necessarily correct.
