I have two. I’m also wondering if anyone else saw these two documentaries:

The first one was a 2011 BBC Three documentary about the youngest and only woman (at the time) to receive an ASBO for drunken behaviour and who had been barred from every from pub in Britain. Her name is Laura Hall. The documentary was really sad. She was only 21 at the time but addicted to alcohol. It showed her trying to overcome it and also documented her downfalls. I often wonder about her and how she is doing now. There’s nothing from a google search and I feel it’s completely intrusive and overboard looking around on Facebook. The only thing I could find was an interview about the making of the programme: https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tv/2011/01/laura-hall-battle-with-booze.shtml

The other one was also a BBC Three documentary from 2009. It was about a 16 year old gay school boy called Tony who had left home and was living by himself whilst trying to find his non-immediate family. It was so sad watching him navigate through a world when he was just a disadvantaged child. Again, I would love to know how he is doing now, almost a decade later.

Am I the only weirdo who still thinks of things like this years after they’ve been on TV? Does anyone else have any? Or could anyone shed some light on either of the two people above? 🙏🏽

The French lady on Louis theroux's drinking to oblivion. She was lovely but very close to death the doctors warned if she continued but she didn't seem to care. I'd love to know how things turned out for her. The new Louis Theroux 4 part series was good as that caught up with quite a few past guests!

I remember watching a documentary years ago, following two young mums on benefits, but life was so hard for them.

They were saving for an Xmas together with their kids, a really basic one given their budget, and one of the young girls own mum stole the money they had saved and they basically had nothing. It was heartbreaking. It must have been about 10 years ago now. I felt so sad for them, both decent girls who had a rubbish start in life.

The rise and fall of a porn star. It followed a lovely young man called Johnny Agassi who was chewed up and spit out in the gay porn industry. He became addicted to crystal meth and became a prostitute, it was so sad as he was a really sweet guy with a heart of gold. In the end the documentary maker basically saved his life when he started overdosing.
I’ve read he returned to Iran and is doing ok now working in a shop bless him. The porn industry is truly, truly cruel and abhorrent.

I remember watching a documentary in about 2001/02 about families in poverty then they did a follow up episode ten years later and nothing had changed! It was really upsetting :( I can’t remember what it was called - I think it was on itv? It’s strange how things stick with you x

I watched this! It was very sad especially the drugs part. Glad to hear he is doing okay.

There was a BBC3 doc about "underage mums". One episode featured a pair of twins, and one of them got pregnant age 14. A few months later, her twin sister also got pregnant! The parents thought it might be a cry for attention.

Was this it ?

Oh WOW thank you for this - yes this is the documentary and I just saw his comment and felt so relieved and happy (even though I don’t know him at all😂). But others have left similar comments so I know it’s not just me that felt like that! I was secretly hoping when I made this thread someone would be like “oh yeah, I know a friend of a friend of that person and they’re doing fine” so this was really appreciated, thank you for replying ❤

About 10 years ago Channel 4 did a documentary called My Family’s Crazy Gap Year. There was a family who took the kids out of school, bought a catamaran and sailed across the Atlantic to then explore the Pacific. I always wonder if they went back to normal boring jobs after that, but a big part of me hopes they’re still exploring pacific islands!

Two have really stuck in my mind:

the first was about Terri Calvesbert (sorry for spelling) who had been badly burned in a fire accidentally started by her Mum. Her Dad was such a good man.

The second was a ‘No Going Back’ with a strange, Barbie-type woman who convinced her very normal husband to buy an island off the coast of Nicaragua. It went very very wrong.

They were/are very wealthy, I believe the husband was a property developer. There’s an update here on what they are doing now running a food company/restaurant (back in the UK 😉): https://elianesmiles.com/our-story/

That second one sounds scary, I just read up on it 😱😱 There are loads of people online asking where they can find the episode to watch and one person said the woman threw a fit and ordered all copies of it to be destroyed and not allowed to be uploaded online anywhere 😬

I found an update from March 2020 for your first doc:

The one where it was about a family where the girls were carers to their (blind) parents but they were basically treated like slaves. It must have been early 2000s but was very sad.

Gosh yes this was repeated the other day and I rewatched it? She had the vile boyfriend also an alcoholic who was so cruel to her?

I always think of one wife swap episode where the mum was a total looney in my eyes- she let her daughter drink WKD from the age of about 11 and put her into cheerleading classes. She was later on a bbc3 (I think) documentary where she was trying to put the same daughter through beauty pageants etc..
What I really think/want to know is how the daughter turned out!! And how her relationship is now with her mother

Many years ago, Thats Life (Esther Ransen) made a special programme about a hospital in Russia. It featured a woman who kept visiting the hospital, bringing much needed medicine and other equipment. Then a whole crew of volunteers, went over to Russia, and renovated parts of the hospital.
I often wonder what became of the hospital, and the woman who devoted so much of her time to it. I have googled it once in a while, but never found any updates, which is a shame.

Not a documentary but the abuse & murder of the 4 year old Daniel Pelka which was all over the news in 2012. It absolutely broke my heart that not one person did anything to help that little boy. I still tear up when I picture his beautiful little face 😥

A documentary called BBC Poor Kids, still available on YouTube. It followed three families with children all around 8-10 years old who were all living in poverty on various areas of the UK. The recent issues with free school meals has made me think of those kids, and all the others around the UK, a lot this week. Mainly because I don’t think people truly understand the depravity that some people in Britain face.
The kids would all be 18 ish now, and it just makes me wonder what happened to them.

I saw this the other day,It was horrific. Those two lazy arsed parents telling people that they had a large family so they would have someone to look after them in their old age.
made me feel sick to watch them, the mother puffing away on a cigarette inside the house, the poor baby asleep on the floor where it conked out.
I hope those girls grew up and moved on to a better life.
