He is 100% doing this for clout.

Look at how quickly he was on Sky News. The awareness is already happening because of journalists and charities. It’s like white people going to a country in Africa or South East Asia to volunteer for a day or 2.

With his platform (if you would call it that) and his money (which he has plenty of), he needs to be building temporary accommodation, bringing trauma informed therapists and specialists to the area to support the children and families who no doubt will have PTSD, bringing teams of workers to clear the rubble, look for survivors. Some areas have no help at all.

This is an email from my colleague whose family are there:

I am emotionally drained and can't comprehend the sheer scale of the disaster. Everything seems pointless. Watching people's desperations and hearing loved ones being in agony is unbearable.

It is worse than what we are shown on TVs.
I heard from a doctor who is a part of group of voluntary doctors ( who are trying to help others in an organised way) that the city ( the half city is destroyed) where we lost our aunty ( my uncles' wife, such an amazing person) and her mother, smells of rotten corps and there are thousands of dead bodies all over the city. I saw on Sky News bodies lying on the payment and no one claiming them. It is not right. It is not acceptable. It is extremely sad.

Overwhelmed hospitals ( if they are still in use), exhausted staff and thousands of people homeless and in shock, in the freezing cold, without a shelter or food. The government was nowhere for 3 days. So many places have had no help especially villages. They are left to their own faith.

The WHO says they fear deaths amongst people who escaped the earthquake; some will die in the freezing weather conditions and some will catch diseases ( no sanitation, no water, no electricity, no toilet, etc.)

I can't accept that my aunty was under the rabbles for 3 days and waited to be saved. We all know that every minute is/was important.
My uncle and cousin did everything in their power without getting any help from the government, only on the 3rd day she was taken out while her mother was still under the rabbles, but died on the way to the hospital. Too late! Too devastating!
How will my uncle and cousin recover from this? They heard her cry for 3 days and tried everything they could to find machinery and tools in agony, anger and frustration that they could pull them alive.
All in vain.
How can they overcome this ordeal?
Yet there are thousands of people like them.
I can't just understand nor accept what has happened.

Maybe he can’t hit the ground in a devastating natural disaster zone in a country that has a personal connection to him and immediately know what to do? I honestly can’t believe anyone is finding fault with this despite what you think of the bloke normally. He’s doing a good thing.

I see what you are saying but I tend to disagree. He and his family are well connected both in London and in Turkey. I know this personally through my own family connections.

I respect your opinion but for me, I think he’s using his profile to raise money. If he kept it quiet and it was just him on the ground, he’d have a lot less impact than him on the ground with money from followers donations. He’s also raising awareness, keeping it top of mind so people donate more rather than it becoming yesterdays news. Gosh they so rarely do anything good, these self serving influencers, I am loving seeing what I think is something great he is doing for the right reasons.

I honestly can’t believe people are saying he’s doing this purely for likes and profile! What happened to trying to see the best in everyone? Ok the guy has been/ is a tool, but c’mon, give him a break on this one! Any support for these poor people in these horrid circumstances deserves all recognition!

Like I say looking at these comments his plan has worked you can’t call a bloke all the names under the sun then all of a sudden lick his a. Never believe an influencer on what they’re posting as it’s never what it’s cracked up to be but some ppl just can’t see through it

Nobody’s “licking his a,” It’s called being human and seeing a bit of good being done in a living nightmare for all those innocent people that have been affected so badly! This is what this is about…nobody else! Nobody’s forgotten about him being a fool usually, but on this occasion, have a bit of a heart for the good that’s been done here! No wool has been pulled over our eyes, I’m definitely not easily manipulated!!! Some of us just have a heart and have put our bitterness towards him to the side through all this! Maybe you should try it! I’m sorry but you’re coming across really heartless here!

Call me what you like I’ve seen his stories and I still don’t buy it and that’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

This is the main thing, he’s still a piece of 💩 but hopefully the money ends up in the right places. He said he’ll post receipts and is happy to be audited, let’s hope that happens so everyone knows where the money goes (I’m always wary of GFM no matter who posts them)

Regardless of what anyone thinks of him (he is a total piece of tit and that won’t change 😂) - he’s raised £60k+ in what 3 days? He’s over there on the ground seeing everything first hand and trying to help. It means a lot to him I assume because of his heritage and his family. I think fair play to him, there aren’t many people that would do that. Yes he may be doing it for clout but with his following he’s raising awareness and that’s so very important right now.

Just because he is doing this though does mean it un-does all of the other stuff he’s done, everything that has previously been said about him still stands. 🫠

So Diren is back home.
I've read both views in this. I do hope he's done this for a good cause and the money he has raised goes to the people that need it.
But I do find it hard to start believing that a rum bag can switch and become this great guy all of a sudden.
His business is doing crap, he's lost his car (can't afford it) and his life line, James is now a home owner and gym owner on the other side of the world.
He's seen an opportunity and jumped on it.
Raise his profile - tick
Get seen on the news - tick
Change the way people perceived him - tick
Get more clients - tick
Make some quick cash - tick

Now I really hope I'm wrong but the way he's went about it and the fact social media is more important than actually grafting makes me very wary...add in his history, well?

He passed some supplies to another guy and sat with some kids. Why has he not spending money out there and making sure the money gets to where its going. Wasn't that his message.
He wanted no money until he knew what to do with it...so 2 days ago he knew what to do with it and has done amazing with nearly 100k. Buy why come home and not spend a penny?

And we will never ever see these receipt he's banging on about. It strange he's even said that, as if he's already feeling guilty.

It's just feels staged...again I hope for the people of Turkey that I'm wrong and the 100k goes to help them in some small way.

I had to laugh at him saying he was going to build a school... with £100k?!
I saw something linked to the Red Cross earlier where €10 is 200 Turkish Lira. That €10 is 28 loaves of bread etc... So money wise, over there, it's likely to go a whole lot further than it ever would over here. Granted maybe not school building levels but still a healthy chunk.

He seems to be asking for people to partner with who know what they're doing to spend the money. I have concerns that he doesn't have any idea with what to do with the funds and he may end up getting someone on board where he doesn't check them out properly and that money is going to get squandered. I feel like the intention is a good one. He's from the country, he's seen dead bodies in the street (and seemed genuinely affected by that in one of his videos) and he seems to want to help. Maybe not all his reasons are legit (partly for publicity etc) but he's doing something.

It doesn't make any of his previous behaviour any less dickish and like his dear friend James says "one hot day doesn't make a summer" so this isn't going to change all the negative about him, but I think a lot of us feel helpless seeing what we have on TV so attempting to do something is better than doing nothing imo. I just hope I'm wrong about how the money is going to get wasted.

I can 💯 guarantee that all (maybe most or some but not all of it) that money will not be used for helping Turkey unless he hands it all over to a well established charity which would be the right thing to do. Greed is too much with these sorts of ppl. His head with be massive with all the attention he’s been getting. He scams ppl with his plans so he’s got no shame. Look at Ashley cane he’s got away with it and so will dirat. I’m not saying that it will all disappear. All he’s got to do is do the bare minimum and make out he needs this and that to help and boom it’s gone.
