In the days since GD was closed down I think my time on DS has reduced by about 80%. I debated closing my account but I still read and occasionally contribute to the soap threads. However even on there, people can't help themselves being absolutely vile in the way they speak about fictional characters!

You forgot one. If you believe there are only two sexes. Which is why I got the boot.

I've been checking in on AV forums and Occy and Sierra mist were present for a few days, but have kept a low profile since.
It is THE occy, but its not Sierra Mist - someone who was really bothered by him/her took the name to try and turn it into a positive one?!

Occy is definitely on AV, he's had a thread closed already & a warning.

A warning already?

How does Straker get away with posting such foul mouthed nonsense.

From Jeremy Vine thread:

Straker;c-98651613 said:
So they dropped the Brexit discussion. Too much of a tough sell even for this right-wing shitshow? Still, the braying Brexiters of Kent can get a stiffy over the Union Jack instead. What a parody nation we've become. If an internet troll was a country, we'd be it.
It is not a one off. Nearly every one of his posts has to contain f**k, mit, or other similar word.

Have to say I feel a bit sorry for Occy. He has depression and anxiety problems. He gets a lot of hate but is pretty inoffensive from what I’ve seen. He just starts lots of random threads.

I'm pretty sure this thread is being watched by certain DS FMs, to monitor what is being posted about them.

All I can say to them is F.O!
I'm sure it will be but I doubt it will dawn on any of them that , as most posters with opposing views were dispatched by them, the downfall of the Politics and GD forums was on their own heads. In the words of the fascists who couldn't stand anyone who voted for Brexit or the Tories "own it" and "it's what you voted for".

Just looked at the Dogs forum about flag sha*ging…. And I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone on there apart from LordRaven is a complete and utter loon.

I have never seen such a bunch of narcissistic egotistical mods in my life!

I'm not sure who is posting the 'go woke, go broke' type comments on there. However, I'm finding it hilarious.

It's quite weird and meta - forums members using forums to ag off other forum members and their discussions. Maybe we should all get in a big forum and fight it out to the digital death
...
I had been thinking something similar but not to the extent of a 'which is better' scenario but that does have a certain appeal.

I'm still in that weird limbo of figuring out what goes where between here and AV but still have a toe in DS for a TV show or two, as long as I can cope with (a) the various knowalls killing any discussion between the lightweights who watch without having to worship or memorise every last detail, and (b) the "already seen it you will love the surprise in next week's episode" people.

Sitting on this three way fence would be easier with a swivel chair but I only get that at weekends.

Posting or not posting on any given forum will be a function of which tab happens to be open at the time a brainfart occurs, with significant factors of mood, laziness, time, weather, and quite possibly trifle.

I know I'm stating the obvious but one of the things I really dislike about some DS Forum threads (R.I.P.) is that there are definite 'in' groups and heaven forbid if you say anything that even slightly challenges the prevailing narrative. I'm someone who thinks in 'grey' and can often see different sides of an issue, which can make me seem a bit flaky or indecisive. That's the downside but at least, after 16 years there, I have the cajones to admit if I'm shown to be wrong or unreasonable about something. Some FMs over there would only apologize or 'own' their mistakes under pain of death. FFS, it's a written exchange with relative strangers. Is your precious ego going to totally collapse if you- gasp- admit you're wrong about something or someone? I'll hold my own if I can back up what I'm saying but know when to walk away and chill when on a hiding to nothing rather than doggedly clinging to the last melting icicle.

Seems more even-paced here but, as a newbie, just feeling my way around atm, having lurked for many months.

You've hit the nail on the head there. The problem with DS, social media and - increasingly - society in general, is that everything is seen as either black or white, right or wrong, good or evil - with nothing in between. You're either on their side or you're (insert insult of choice here).

People are so desperate to jump on the latest bandwagon and be on the 'right' side of the argument that they simply aren't capable of thinking for themselves anymore. And the mainstream media serves only to pour petrol on the fire these days. Look at the selective way they report the 'news' and how they relentlessly portray politicians, institutions and people in the public eye as either 'good' or 'bad'.

We're breeding a generation of imbeciles and I really do fear for the future.

Agrippa57 is positively itching to 'start' but 'gently does it' over on AV.
(On the Hello thread)

Yes, itching to start abusing posters whose opinions differ from his own. At least we'll see which side of the tracks the mods inhabit when he does inevitably 'start'.

I doubt the AV mods will put up with it, him, Robin of Cocksley & JoMarch are all getting sweaty palms.

Thanks. Seems that way to me. There are some threads I started to engage in whereby if you don't fawn at the main protagonists you tend to get ignored when you comment OR if you challenge them/ say something slightly oppositional, you get rounded upon with the furies of hell unleashed (well, ok, exaggerating for effect, here). It's almost like 'We've decided which way this is going and who has the main say. Join us by all means but if you don't follow the line we will either pick on you for entertainment purposes or just dismiss your view.' Some people really do have too much time...

Totally agree with this. Having an in between view often gets you attacked by both sides. Happened to me on several threads. Most recently the Harry and Megan Oprah interview. I have worked in Corporate Communications/PR for years and therefore have frequently interacted with journalists and broadcasters. So, without being boastful, I do think I know a bit about how the media works. With that in mind I posted that I didn’t think H&M going to war with the media and giving interviews about family rifts was a good idea. Because the media never forgets anyone who has crossed them and they will wait in the long grass for every opportunity to hit back. And airing your family problems via the media just widens the familial rift and gives the media more ammunition. But I got told I was advising that they submitted to bullies and was saying they had no right to defend themselves. That was not what I was saying. I was saying you have to recognise how the media works and find better and more subtle ways of getting your story across. In other words you have to find a way of dealing with the world as it is not how you think it should be. But I gave up because everybody knew better than me.
