Why do they go into orbit when someone bumps an old thread? I've seen two threads today, one from 2023 which was "bumped" and we got the "Oh, My, God!!!!!!!!!! AN OLD THREAD!!!!" and one from 2007 which has had a "Support, shut this down now!!!!" On the other had, if someone starts a new thread, you will get "This was discussed 15 years ago!! Use that thread!!!"

What is the issue with posting in old threads?
I think part of the issue is it's either been resolved or the advice / law has changed

Does anyone remember GreatGodPan? He'd probably get along pretty well with Dave Polanski, he was about that levels of nuts.

Or all those people who shouted from the rooftops they would leave if Brexit won? Most were either gone only briefly or never followed through like people wouldn't notice 🤭

There were a couple of yanks on there.

Sweetheart Holly was one. Use to always go on about some American boy band.

Wasn’t so sweet though if you criticised any aspect of Christianity. She would get very snotty with you.
No idea if she’s still around.
That's the one who always signs their post with "God bless them (whoever they were fangirling over) and you always". I get Mormon or something vibes from them but could be totally wrong.

One I remember from years ago was the teenager who promised that she would leave when she reached a certain amount of posts.

I can't remember her name.
Goonst? Always claimed to be a teen girl with mental health issues, but was generally believed to be someone much older, possibly a man.

I notice the recent news of Russell Brand being charged with sexual assault/rape was greeted with delight on both AVF and Urban75. There was absolutely no mention of innocent until proven guilty on either platform. Contrast this with the reaction to today's arrest of Labour MP, Dan Norris over rape and child sex offences. All of a sudden someone on AVF is saying (rightly) that Norris is not guilty unless/until he is convicted! That sentiment seemed to be lacking on the Russell Brand threads. I genuinely hope that none of these social media bigots ever get called up for jury service.

One morbidly fascinating thread was the John James and Josie Appreciation Thread in the big brother forum.

It was essentially years of one poster having a conversation with herself, with an occasional visit from someone else who clearly felt bad for the poor cow.
Just checked that thread. The last comment is from someone announcing she passed away in 2021.

Was that Emma something? Had a baby boy by a British Pakistani? If it’s the same woman, I had to tell her that it was not appropriate to call her kid ‘little p*ki’ as an affectionate pet name. She was not a horrible person (well, going by her posts anyway), just naive.

She’s probably a lot wiser now, as many years have passed. Sadly she learned the hard way. I had many a female friend who also had kids with terrible guys who they thought would stick around, and then reality kicked in.
Yes that’s her! The kid would be in his mid to late teens by now. Wonder if the Dad still has any involvement? I don’t think he ever officially acknowledged him as his son.

I remember him.

Anne666 was a character. Very strong opinions then just disappeared. Wonkeydonkey was prolific on the Big Brother forum.

Walter Neff always in the film section and telling how he saw Marilyn Monroe in person. I liked him.
She suddenly came back last year I think.

WonkeyDonkey died I think ?

Another one who I'm convinced is dead is Cessna. He was in his 80's I think ? He last posted in 2021, five years ago. Combine that with his age, and you have that possibility.

That multi-thread starter/bot in DS, Sherewq, has surpassed themselves with their latest auto generated thread: ‘Your soap specialist subject on Mastermind?’, which is fine within itself but their opening post was bizarre:

“I'm quite good at knowing actors who played characters so maybe that.”

So every soap actor that ever existed then
Does make me think someone should do an Immaculate Grid style quiz with soap actors.

I haven't been on there for a while since I got "you were lying" allegations thrown at me and now I'm scared to even open the site.
The personal-life section is a bunch of bullshit. Not that people lie. It's that people are very quick to accuse OTHERS of bullshitting for not divulging every single issue that could ever have arisen and for not giving 26/9 updates. What happened to assuming good faith?

I would see his name pop up in all sorts of forums being the same old car crash he was on DS. What a sad life.

The one who stuck in my mind most though was the one who wished his sister would have a disabled child because everything was easy for her. I think their name was Robert? They ended up getting banned and threads deleted.

There was a genuinely scary full on incel called alcockel or something and I had stick them on ignore, they were demented in their hate for women.
Was that 201therobert or something like that ?

There is a user called William_Gravel who sent me a nasty PM once (maybe around 2018/2019) with no provocation. It was confusing and upsetting!

Does anyone remember that thread in the DS Advice section started by a teenage girl who’s friend was ignoring them?

She couldn’t take the hint to just walk away.

Who was the one that was stalking the Easterners cast? To the point where the BBC had to get involved and DS went on damage control ?

The thread you mention is under "AV Forums resources/Feedback support & site news" and is titled "Forums founder/staff member entered a private chat". It's on page 3 of the Feedback Support sub forum and the last post was made July 23 2024. I'm not entirely sure, but I think you need to be an AVF member to access that part of the forums. The site owner SW tried to explain it as an accident, like you I don't believe it for a minute! :D Here is his post on the matter.......

The tiny number of people who have permission to search conversations get them amongst all the search results. As you have seen, the presentation of conversations on mobile is virtually identical to the presentation of threads, so it would be possible for someone half asleep late at night to accidentally scroll to the bottom and send a message in the quick reply box without reading any of the messages on the page.
The conversation title here was 'The Covid Thread' so it's easy to see it and confuse it with a Covid thread.
That's what happened here, I'm certain.

Apologies for the confusion.
Ah thanks. I did look for it again when I still had an account (I deleted iirc end of last year) but I couldn’t find it then (sometimes the search function on there wasn’t very good).

I’m glad that forum member brought it to our attention.

Was PinkTeddy the same person who claimed to be a really naive and dim student radiographer who was obsessed with dolphins and seals? She used to post saying her mum still did her hair. I can't remember what her name was then.
Not a clue on that, sorry!
