The next big thing he's working on ...I'm wondering if they are going to attempt to jump onto the Guosto/ Hello fresh bandwagon!?!
Not sure, when she says the next big thing is generally another dull snack with dates/cocoa/almonds and maybe maybe macadamia nut šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.
voila a new snack, thank me later

Is it not going to be them opening their own factory to produce their products? I swear she was talking about that a while ago?

If she tells us one more time how amazing she is being a ā€˜mama, business owner, ultimate supreme juggler of all things life and workā€™ ā€¦. Every friggin day!! She should add multi-millionaire to that list. Variations on a theme of ā€˜having two tinies, running an empireā€™ what is she trying to prove. Her smugnesss makes me barf šŸ¤®

Another story of Matt working on holidayā€¦ I really donā€™t get the whole ā€œweā€™re a wellness company with meditation and yoga on our appā€ on one hand yet ā€œwe never stop working and I realise how much I miss my childrenā€ on the other. The two storylines donā€™t gel for me.

People with children should be allowed to work and pursue their goals, obviously, but DE is a wellness brand so the story doesnā€™t work for me as I think the work obsession is unhealthy

Edit:

Honestly smug ella and these eye rolling stories are the best content she's had for years. Beats all the stolen recipes

Sorry I realise this is super old, but I just accidentally clicked on page two rather than going to the latest page and saw this and vomited ā€œDeliciously Mattā€ NOOOOO. This is what I was meaning the other day!! Gross. (Not a negative about the baby, or photo, the baby is sweet).

i see a lot of comments showing resentment for both Ella and Livia coming from wealthy backgrounds, itā€™s strange, we all utilise connections in everyday life; try to get a backstage pass at a concert, try to get your child into a prestigious school, try to network and introduce yourself at a business function etc, I personally have no issue if both women used who they/their parents know alongside finance from the family to grow their businesses, surely any parent would want to help their child succeed? There are many case studies of trust fund babies never working a day in their life and living off handouts, and I find it distasteful for wealth to be bragged about, if either had flaunted million pound apartments and mentioned mummy is a Sainsbury every month weā€™d have all called them out for arrogance, yet not flaunting the wealth disparity is also criticised, it feels a little damned if they do damned if they donā€™t.... which is probably why both of them mention at least twice a week how they are multitasking powerforce founder mama superheroes that work 100 hour days and sleep in a box under their desk (just kidding, sleep is for losers) They both feel like they need to prove that theyā€™re worthy of their station, that being a ā€œfounder and CEOā€ is something they worked hard for, they deserve to be stood at the top.... and theyā€™re right. I donā€™t agree with the business decisions that have been made recently, the time away from children, the unblinking selfie stare and the constant forced happiness mixed with equally forced attempts to be down to earth.... thereā€™s a lot for me to dislike, but I have to admit for all their faults both women have worked hard and done some long hours to get to where they are today, regardless of the connections they used to help along the way that is an accolade worthy of praise.

Saying that though Iā€™m one Instagram story away from turning Liviaā€™s ā€œfounder and ceoā€ catchphrase into a drinking game, itā€™s truly impressive where she can shoehorn it in!

I have to say I donā€™t resent them. But to counter what you said, thereā€™s a young woman who makes amazing cakes which she sells at my local farmerā€™s market. She does wedding cakes as well as she stands out a mile. I follow her on Instagram & she appears to work at least 6 days a weeks doing long days. She studied a culinary course for 4 years. If she has multi weddings in a day she drives around the country herself doing deliveries dealing with the stress of heat melting cakes etc.

Ella & Matt have had a lot of success & no doubt do work hard. But Ella tends to portray herself as just like everyone else. Iā€™d find it more genuine if she didnā€™t say things like Matt had to mortgage his flat as security without mentioning all the family support that was clearly made available to her.

The lady i mentioned works incredibly hard but she will never have the kind of success Ella & Olivia have had because she comes form an ordinary background. If she decided to launch a similar range tomorrow sheā€™d have to go begging to a bank, & if she was somewhat successful & wanted to keep going sheā€™d probably have to give guarantees to the bank. She is 24 living with her parents & the bakery appears to be in their back garden. So her parents are helping her but they canā€™t buy her a gorgeous flat & inspirational lifestyle that gave Ella a backdrop for her books etc. Ella also will never have to worry about being made bankrupt or losing the roof over her head.

Itā€™s about acknowledging that, yes by all means be the boss lady CEO but it would be more genuine if they acknowledged they didnā€™t get there purely through hard graft. Thereā€™s a difference between bragging about being an heir & simply saying I was/am so lucky to have had family support. The connections Ella has are mind blowing in terms of getting to supply chains & getting into supermarkets. Iā€™d have more respect for her if she acknowledged that as well as telling us how hard they work. How hard they work is a fraction of the picture, but sheā€™s not upfront in any way about that as far as I have seen.

You have put this so well.

I am not jealous or envious of her privilege but I do think itā€™s incredibly insincere to not own it. I donā€™t particularly care she has a Nanny, I think itā€™s good sheā€™s admitted it if anything.

She use to claim it was almost a mistake that her blog became so big and successful. When the reality is really different:

- she got posted about in a lot of press due to the sob story and the connections she has with people in the media. The fact she even knew she had to have a story of adversity to be noticed is probably on advice from others. Thatā€™s not me saying I donā€™t believe her etc, Iā€™m just saying that itā€™s not a coincidence that all the original press about her focused on how this ā€œsugar junkieā€ gave up her addiction, cured her ailments and now you can do the same. Just look at her first books which are filled with photos of her, and her glossy lifestyle, which is unusual for cookbooks.

- DE originally sold a lifestyle via Instagram and people followed her for aspiration. She acted like a girl next door who had all this success (beautiful flat, multiple holidays a year, expensive gym memberships etc) all of the back of starting ā€œa little blog from her university kitchenā€. That lifestyle came about from her wealth not her blog and making people think otherwise isnā€™t fair on them tbh.

- she was able to film videos in stunning settings because a) her Mums house is stunning and b) as soon as she left university she was gifted a 1.5million pound flat in London with a brand new kitchen specifically designed to sell a look and a certain instagramable aspirational lifestyle. Sheā€™s had photo shoots done in her Mums walled gardens etc etc. All of these things are a privilege that most people canā€™t access.

- she never had to worry about going to find a job to fund her rent or enterprise because she knew if it didnā€™t work out her parents would back her with housing and money support.

- despite not making a load of money from her blog she was able to pay an assistant to help her, taking some of the work load off her and giving her someone to bounce ideas off etc

- she was able to get advice on marketing etc from people in the know for free due to her familyā€™s friends and connections.

- her first YouTube videos were all professionally filmed, she never had the juddery rubbish that most people start with. She never had to edit them etc which means they looked a lot better so got more traction.

- the fact is, it was easier for her to get her products into supermarkets then it was for most people due to family connections. Thatā€™s just a fact. It doesnā€™t mean she didnā€™t also work hard to get them there. But the path was far less windy for her then it was for the average joe with a new idea.

- her family invested into the business. Most people do not have a family they can turn to, to invest in their business to the tune of 100,000ā€™s.

None of this is to say she didnā€™t work hard. But for an awful lot of people, working hard will not get them to where Ella is now. They will have so many more roadblocks and obstacles along the way. She never acknowledges this, and when I followed her was always at pains to prove how hard she works and how her success is driven from her own skill set. And while the brand would not be a success if she hadnā€™t worked hard, it is incredibly disingenuous for her to act like thatā€™s the ONLY reason sheā€™s got to where she is now. It isnā€™t. Thatā€™s just a fact.

That she could be a trust fund baby who does nothing but has chosen not to go down that path, and should somehow be respected for that, shows exactly how much slack we (as a society) give to privileged people with vast inherited wealth. The bar is low.

Itā€™s facile to chalk up resentment of the privileged to jealousy or a case of tall poppy syndrome and Iā€™m sure sometimes it is that but itā€™s not what I see by and large in this thread - for reasons well articulated by @Chocolate2008 and @stardust21.

Yes, itā€™s not even the main reason. As you have outlined, itā€™s not like she had a little bit of help. Her family arenā€™t just rich, they are one of the main players in the industry & one of her main customers.

They had what 3 restaurants fail a couple of years ago, & are on a nice holiday & live in a luxury home. In the real world when businesses fail people suffer consequences.

I want to add I do still have more respect for Ella doing so much with her life than say sunbeamjess who claims to care a lot about social issues & certainly understands them but appears to do nothing.

Some trust fund kids blow their money and others use their privilege to gain fame and more money. I'm not sure I'd see the latter as more admirable, it's helping to entrench inequality. Let's face it her family is part of the elite - listed in Jeffrey Epstein's little black book level stuff.

Those at the top often don't want to acknowledge all the help they had and think as if anyone could do it if they worked as hard as them. Calling people jealous is just lazy and is what the elites want, it's not bad to acknowledge inequality.

Life isn't about how hard you work. It often gets into making people feel like a failure - oh you can't buy a house? Well you must not have worked hard enough! šŸ™„

Ella deserves the criticism with pretending it all happened by accident and she was just a normal blogger that somehow against all the odds made millions. It's selling a lie.

The grace Beverly thread often says it so well. As does this meme

Iā€™m sure there are others who in Ellaā€™s position might not have achieved what she has & credit to her for that. I like quite a few of her products, although they are a tad pricey. Sheā€™s certainly marketed herself very well

But Iā€™d have more respect for her if she toned down the look how hard we work on holidays etc because they simply donā€™t have to. They choose to which is fine but a luxury not afforded to most. At some point in the look how hard we work, Matt had to mortgage his flat talk she should mention something about the Sainsburyā€™s connection.

I worked on holidays this year as did several of my friends, I was at a wedding where an accountant was on his laptop, my friend has slaved away for over a year in a bank on a huge project with massive responsibility including taking her laptop into hospital & didnā€™t get a promotion she applied for. Itā€™s in no way unusual. What is unusual is that my friends & I need to work whereas Ella wonā€™t starve if she doesnā€™t. All she has to lose is her pride.

It is undoubtedly so that she / they is/are not exposed to the same risk as people that do not have the same financial resources.

And doors open for her / them due to their connections.

Yes, they chose not to be idle and be a "socialite", but at the same time they didn't embark on a completely different career that they would have to build completely on their own.
They are also not vastly invested in "giving back".

A bit off topic (was checking if her dad's Wikipedia page mentions Jeffrey Epstein - it doesn't)

But how unimpressive is Shaun Woodward's $9 million Hamptons house? I mean it's nice and good refurb, but that price and not even a sea view

I agree that the story of "little blogger turned famous and successful on her own merit due to her amazing story" is misleading (and I fell for it initially) and can lead to low self-esteem in people that don't achieve this (again: I felt like this).

But she is free to make her own decisions and whether she wants to work on holiday or how much time she wants to spend with her children etc is completely down to her.

What about the Epstein connections?

Regardless of everything else she annoyed me that she claimed she cured her PoTS (I have it) and her EDS (my partner has it) by eating her diet. So many people myself included tried to eat like that and spent money we didnā€™t have on expensive foods to eat like that and we are still ill. She doesnā€™t push the health side of it anymore, but it was wrong.
Also her constant stories about us all needing to eat plant based to save the planet yet taking long haul flights doesnā€™t sit well with me.
