Decluttering challenge

Does anyone else have the problem that they can never seen to get rid of enough? I try to be ruthless but there's still always too much stuff, and I don't think I have a lot compared to some.

It feels like a neverending slog. I need some motivation.
I think one of my biggest issues is a lot of stuff I bought when I had more money!

Now with changes in life, work and the ever rising general COL I’ve had to become more frugal.

So a lot of my issue is ‘what if’
I may use/need/want it in future! Especially true with clothes that don’t fit as I just know I won’t be able to get the same fit/quality anymore 😜

I’m the same but probably because I do keep buying things 🙈There is the ‘one in one out’ rule but at the minute I should probably do one in TWO out.

What do people do with products that are open but they're not going to use up? Is it ok to empty them in the sink then get recycle the packaging or is that not very environmentally friendly?
I ask my friends and family if they would like to use them. More often than not I have plenty of takers. I also do this with books I've read but didn't enjoy enough to keep.

Some women's shelters or homeless shelters accept lightly used products, if you have any near you, you can check with them about their donation policy.

Some words I've just read.....
"Regret is like a favourite old cracked vase, it should be chucked out and not kept in the back of the cupboard for sentimental reasons."

Thanks. I found a website that listed lots of organisations and what they accept, which you could search by area. Hopefully it'll work if not it's called toiletries amnesty. https://www.toiletriesamnesty.org/directory/

Have been needing to get out into my garden for ages but what with a difficult pregnancy and newborn and a delightful 😒 threenager it hasn't been a top priority. This weekend I managed to clear all the weeds and random plants that had grown within our gravel seating area, empty all the planters and mow the lawn and get it prepped for feed and weed treatment. Was hard getting it done while looking after the baby and toddler but feel so much better about it already. Few jobs left to do and it'll be completely done. Here's hoping it can be done before the sunshine disappears!

A few smaller decluttering jobs I've finished. Sorted out my pjs and socks, got rid of anything that was falling apart and no longer of use. Cleared out my hair accessories and earrings. Sorted out my purse, actually found a couple of vouchers so used those for some meal deals! Need to figure out a plan of action for the rest of the house, think I might plan for a job per week starting August. Need to get some extra cash from selling unwanted things, as mat leave money doesn't go very far.

I had a massive clothing/accessories clear out at the start of this week as i wasn't feeling my best in my current clothes. I have started paying more attention to the materials of clothing i buy as it is insane how much i have paid for things that are 100% polyester!!! I was pretty ruthless and set myself some basic rules such as anything i never wore (clothes, bags, shoes and accessories included), anything that no longer fit, anything that wasn't an absolute love, anything that was cropped, and anything that was a pure synthetic fabric. Took a while but i uploaded everything on Vinted and have made £400 this week and still have lots left to sell.

I’m in the decluttering zone, house in chaos as I set things in visible accessible piles for selling/relocating/rehoming!
You forget that you need to make space in rightful places for things you want to keep or use in the longer term,
But I can live with that now!

Clothes and shoes I just did a civic duty and left at charity shop as couldn’t be arsed with the faffing about with taking pics and online sales. 3 huge Ikea bags full which was great as I got it out of my way there and then. Helped spur on the rest.

Started to put things on Vinted for the first time ever. I have made £70 on 3 items this week so happy with that, all posted today.

Just frustrating you can’t use it to sell electronics, as have some new and sealed things like tablets & wireless speakers. But they took those down as violations.
Have never been one for eBay so don’t know if I can be arsed with doing that and marketplace is just a breeding ground for scam replies and people wanting something for nothing.

Do you have a Cex near you? They may take your electronics if you do. You can check the value on their website before heading to the store, work out if the trip is worthwhile or not.

Hadn’t thought of that so thanks for the suggestion. I had a look there and cash sale exchange you probably going to get 20-30 less than eBay. But it does have convenient element of one drop and not being worried about things being declared missing in the post.

They do offer 20-30 quid more if you would take payment as voucher. So might have a chat with my partner about that later as he’s might want a phone. Working outdoors a new one is wasted on him and they do 24month warranty.

My OH usually gets a voucher and then puts it towards blu rays that he wants 🙄 His idea of decluttering is selling crap to buy more 🙄

Ive lost quite a lot of time this week going down Vinted rabbit holes, comparing prices to list mine at a point likely to sell.
Vinted is now full of saves of things I think I need!

Selling some of my unwanted items is giving me the push I need to keep this decluttering and reorganising spree in motion.

I uploaded 4 items on to eBay on Friday afternoon. First time ever using it to sell.
Also had them listed on marketplace all I got was few of the usual random ‘tyre kickers’ and scammers responding on Facebook.

All sold by Saturday evening on EBay with no major bartering and posted yesterday.

After fees a nice little £340 quid landed in my bank account this morning for those 4 items that had been gathering dust on top of my wardrobe.

I'm just putting a marker here to try and hold myself accountable. My own tiny house is bursting at the seams but I am also now responsible for my parents large, cluttered (some hoarding issues actually) house. So I have a vast amount of decluttering to do. I intend to start with clothes from my parents house, there is a serious excess of special occasion wear or damaged clothes that should be a fairly easy win. Also the last of the expired food items.

My own home will be a bit harder and I don't know where to start. Perhaps some garden chopping, clearing and straightening if the weather allows. Otherwise perhaps a ruthless sort through my pet beds and throws and get rid of the damaged or tattiest ones. I'll report back on Monday!

I always wonder with hoarder homes. Can’t you stealthily take a few items each time you visit without them noticing?

Operation Sort Out House took place this week. We moved our toddler into the guest bedroom and the baby into his bed. The toddler got his first big boy bed and the baby got promoted from the Snuzpod to the cotbed. Rejigging all the furniture allowed as to deep clean and declutter each room as we went. Listed the Snuzpod and some odds and ends on Facebook Marketplace and they all sold within hours of uploading. Uploaded a couple of bundles of baby clothes this afternoon. OH listed a bunch of blu rays onto ebay and he's sold a bunch already. We didn't quite finish all the jobs we wanted to but we managed to work through a big chunk, no mean feat when trying to work with a very clingy baby. Got our office and garage to sort and then it's just a case of keeping on top of selling on the baby clothes as and when he grows out of them.
