I’m looking for advice for anyone with anxiety. I think I was on the edge of a panic attack or something today, I had to leave a room. This is the first time ever and I’m confused. My chest and throat were tight, my tongue felt too big, I felt like crying and it was hard to speak. Does anyone know what this is? I don’t want to call it a panic/anxiety attack cos I wasn’t sweating/thinking I was going to die or anything like that.

I'm trying to make small steps but it's hard. I know I'm wasting the present and I'll look back and be so gutted that I let this ruin what should be a great part of my life. I just don't know how to enjoy the present, that's my problem. These thoughts are so hard to suppress and hit me the moment I wake up.
I appreciate your responses ♥
I understand you, I am the same.
Although I am financially okay, I also live overseas and have never been one for friends, (mostly due to the language barrier, I am not fluent.)
I lost my best friend and could never be that bothered again.
My anxiety mostly stems from being left alone here, I am older and married but sometimes when my husband is out I do wonder what I would do here without him because in all honesty I have no-one else in the whole world.
Sending a 🫂 to let you know you are not on your own with these thoughts x

I would take 30mg every day. I bought it online but it’s also available in store in my country. The brand I used is called Zafranpure. Hope it can help you!
Thank you ♥ I've ordered some and picking it up from town tomorrow!! I'd rather take a natural product than anything else and see how I get on. I had the worse night sleep ever, I was up every hour and I can't carry on like this, hope the gp can give me something short term for my insomnia 🙃

Hello all.
I've just been given citalopram. Only started taking 3 days ago so obviously won't be benefitting from it yet.
Just wondering if the mild side effects come before the benefits? The evening I take it, I've had a major hazy head, I just go to bed early to sleep it off.
Just a placebo or are they quick with the side effects?
I drive a fair bit, so now I'm worrying about feeling rubbish while driving. The irony eh!

All seems a little stupid to write it down and ask, but I don't take any ongoing medications, so this is all new to me.🙂
I was on setraline before I got put in this about 6 weeks ago. Still early days but I feel more like myself (not as grumpy. A bit calmer feel less stressed and upset all through time like I did ) I'm really hoping I stay this way. But upto feel better on it. I feel tired more though

One day the boffins will come up with a drug specifically targeted to treat anxiety which actually provides relief quickly..and isn't one of the much maligned benzodiazepines.

Diazepam used appropriately helps me when everything else I try doesn't do anything to lower the awful mental agitation. I'm on escitalopram but have a very stressful life as a carer so its hardly surprising that things get too much to cope with sometimes.

Persevere with the citalopram, Palms and I really hope it helps. Prescribing antidepressants is always a bit of a lottery and we all respond differently.

Did you take it daily or just as needed? Like when your heart was racing? I'm not to sure when to take mine as my heart doesn't always race it's mainly lightheadness x
To jump in here, I was given propanolol a few times but it didn't work until I was given a high dose (80mg I think) but slow release - I take one each evening (and mornings as needed) and it really helps the physical effects of anxiety (racing heart, stomach issues) but doesn't affect me in any other way whatsoever. I'd recommend taking it every day and seeing how you get on. The light headedness will be caused by a lack of oxygen to your brain which is still a heart/breathing issue so the propanolol should help. If it doesn't work then ask your dr about slow release as the 10-30mg ones didn't work for me really

Any advice would be appreciated. I've been really struggling with anxiety and catastrophising about the future. I'm single and moved abroad a few years ago. Barely have a pension, have some money saved but no property, no investments etc and am just so worried that I'm going to have to do life alone and have to look after myself and that I don't have the means. It's sent me into a depression and I just don't know how to get out. I'm on medication now and my third counsellor but I just have no strategies or ways to stop this thinking and get out of this cycle. It's so overwhelming and I just don't enjoy life anymore as I'm worried of what will happen to me 😞

Thinking of everyone else who is struggling. Wish we could feel happy and carefree like others seem to
Sending you love❤

Firstly I would say, 'happy and carefree like others seem to' - please never compare your life to anyone else's as you don't know how they really feel behind closed doors. I know it's easier said than done, but remember if you're comparing yourself to social media, people only post their highlights! It can make you feel like you're doing life wrong, but I promise everyone has their ups and downs.

I wish I could give you some advice, or there was an easy solution to how you're feeling. You could maybe set yourself small targets (financial, social etc) so that you start to feel a sense of achievement. I think you're looking at the future under a dark cloud at the moment, but just remember that some of our best days haven't even happened yet. Nobody knows what the future holds, but I do know that usually whatever we worry about never happens. I think start doing some fun activities to take your mind off the worry and start enjoying your present, rather than worrying about your future.

I experienced anxiety quite badly a few years ago and propranolol helped me as a short term measure to manage the physical symptoms of anxiety, while I was getting better and learning how to manage the thought based aspect of it. Is medication something you'd be willing to consider as a short term measure?

I also found keeping a brief journal helpful as a mood tracker, as it helped me to identify triggers to my anxiety.

Bringing the thread back.

I really struggle with anxiety around travelling. I have been unwell a few times when visiting different places and now I start to panic a few days before I even go somewhere.

Even when I am not actually thinking about travelling, 24-48 hours before I go I will start to feel physically ill, and will sometimes get a bad anxiety stomach. Also, when I get places I make myself miserable by putting myself under pressure to enjoy it, and feeling like I am not enjoying it enough.

Does anyone have any tips on overcoming travel anxiety?
Is it the actual travelling that’s causing anxiety, or being in another place and being unwell/not knowing what to expect because of that?

If it’s the latter, I can relate slightly. I tend to just over prepare. I take loads of over the counter medication with me so I know I’ve got what I need if the thing that causes me anxiety then flares up (for context mine is diverticular disease and acid reflux interlinked which I get anxious over flaring when I’m away. Due to this, I pack loads of paracetamol, a hot water bottle, liquid gaviscon, herbal anxiety tablets and take blow up pillows - I know it’s a lot - in case I need additional pillows and the hotel won’t supply).

I know it may not sound very warm but I find it’s almost about taking the emotion out of it and looking at it logistically - what can you and/or others who are travelling with you do to ease any concerns?

Were you anxious at the time?

How do you feel now?
I was and have been since yesterday (or probably a lot longer but I’ve been squashing it down I think). I feel slightly better now but still short of breath when I think about it.

Hey everyone , I’m back here again ☹ how does everyone cope with anxiety when it comes to job interviews?
I’m struggling at the minute. I finished uni in July and I’m still yet to find a job. The job market I'm finding tough to even hear back from application for interviews.
Today I had an interview, it went terrible. My anxiety and lack of confidence just ate me right up and I crumbled. Stumbled over my words, I didn’t expand enough because I just wanted to shut down. I haven’t heard back from them yet but I know I haven’t got the job because it was the worst interview I’ve ever done. I just feel like I’m fighting a loosing battle. I am considering ringing the doctors tomorrow to see if they can give me any medication to help control my anxiety as it’s beginning to trigger my depression which I’ve managed for the past 2 years.
First of all - Well done for actually going to the interview.
Job interviews are nerve wrecking, and to be dealing with anxiety and attending a job interview is an achievement. Good for you!

The job interview is done. It's over.

Be kind to yourself.

Not coping. :( I need sleep to feel less anxious, but can't sleep because I'm too anxious. Health anxiety is through the roof as well. Right now I'm having these muscle twitches in my legs (probably tiredness) and I'm thinking omg what's that?
I get the muscle twitches when I’m over tired so it’s probably due to your lack of sleep.

Not sleeping is a viscous circle as you go to bed panicking you won’t be able to sleep again and it makes it worse.

Hi everyone, first post in this thread

I'm 32 and have lifelong anxiety, morphed from being a child and having genuine fear at not pleasing my parents, who split when I was 2 but both seperately did things that made me feel responsible for their emotional states, from a very young age. I guess this has forced me into being what is now referred to as an "empath" and constantly horrifically anxious at the idea of upsetting people. I can't even have an argument with my boyfriend without crying myself to sleep and being horrifically upset that he's not as upset as I am because who I am and how I feel can't exist independently of someone I care about.
It's really hard having both this and general anxiety, I was prescribed Mirtazipine 45mg (the highest amount recommended) which helped my horrific anxiety that I had before, during and after being incorrectly prescribed Citalopram for 9 months previous. I hate how I was just passed from dr to dr via an online service recommended by my GP, and none of them listened when I said the Citalopram was literally making me so physically anxious every morning that I was more often than not vomiting, if not, dry retching for hours due to physical anxiety in my abdomen.

I'm better now on Mirtazipine but rely heavily on recreational drugs to help my brain slow down, and I'm currently recognising signs that imply this is becoming a problem, like irritability when not high etc.

It's sometimes so exhausting being aware of your mental state. I'd love to be unaware.

Hi all x

I suffer from anxiety, always have and I've had counselling several times over the years which has help but I've started having panic attacks and my anxiety is all the time, out of control, struggling to concentrate at work / life!

It started badly about 6 weeks ago when I went to a party and bad habits by Ed Sheeran came on and I had a massive panic attack and started crying.. i was in a coma a few years ago due to covid (I've mentioned this a few times on tattle) and it's one of the things I remember from being in icu and since then I've not been ok.

I just feel like I should be over it all and I should be able to listen to a song without feeling extremely triggered by it all and since then I've been struggling every day. I've had trauma counselling for my icu stay etc and I thought I was over it and I was doing well given it's been a few years?!! I just feel like it's a major set back and it's been on my mind.

My therapy is starting again on Wednesday and I've got a gp appt tomorrow to hopefully get some medication for my anxiety - I've heard awful things about sertreline ??? Can anyone recommend anything else. I'm also making sure I go back to the gym as I stopped going for 2 weeks and my head has been in the bin!

Really glad I've found this thread xx ♥

I’ve struggled with my mental health since my teenage years but I’d say for the past 2 years I’ve felt my mental health has been manageable and I’ve been a lot more content in myself. However at the minute I’m going through big life changes with finishing university and trying to find a job and I can feel my mental health declining again!

I have my graduation on Wednesday. I feel sick already and filled with anxiety. Every single night for the past week I’ve struggled to sleep and I’ve been awake late at night constantly worrying and overthinking this graduation. It’s nothing to do with worrying about things that probably won’t happen like falling over. It’s just the anxiety of being infront of so many people, really outside of my comfort zone.
Has anyone got any tips for dealing with events like this when you suffer with anxiety? I’m thinking about buying some rescue remedy but I’m not sure how effective it actually is

Anyone not sure if you said weird shit and get anxiety over it?

Like I'll think back on a convo and wonder if I told them to jump off a cliff then get anxiety.
