I didn’t mind too much when violet came out last time I saw the Foos. In fact I was glad, I’d been dying for a piss and a drink and it was great to be given the opportunity to go and do that.

Can anyone think of successful, genuinely talented nepo babies?

The only successful nepo baby i can think of is Rufus Tiger Taylor, Roger Taylor's son. But he has actual talent. Yes he's had the best tuition as a drummer and then his dad's connections, but without talent it would have meant nothing - he's a highly regarded drummer in his own right (I know nowt about drumming, but have read a fair bit of praise from those in the know). He's also not appeared to chase fame, he's in it for the music.
Maya Hawke is very talented.

Carrie Fisher too.
And Billie Lourd. I don't she's had a breakthrough role yet, but I think she's very talented, and seems like a pretty great human too.

People only think of the ones they don't like as "nepo babies". We could be here forever listing successful kids with parents in the industry

Angelica Huston
Angelina Jolie
Dakota Johnson
Benedict Cumberbatch
Mark Ronson
Jack Quaid
Kate Hudson

...and many more!

Having connections might help you get your start but you can't get that far without some actual talent and dedication.

Nepotism exists in every industry.

The whole nepo baby discourse is half just people online looking for acceptable excuses to insult people.

With kids like Violet - and the McFly offspring - I do wonder how much they actually want to do it and how much they're being told by their parents that they want to do it.

I don't have an issue with nepo-babies who are "talented" (I understand that this is subjective) and, as one previous commenter has said, if I had a famous parent, I doubt I'd be working in Asda. A large part of the entertainment industry is who you know and making connections. If you have connections use them. Why not?

I have more of an issue with nepo baby models I think. Kids of famous people that walk runways and get campaigns who wouldn't get a second look if they were just someone on the street.

That’s very true but in the arts world you get nepo babies who are quite successful and make money but have no talent.
Violet uses they/them and looks miserable all the time. It’s like she’s trying hard to be nonchalant and #notlikeothergirls but it isn’t working.

These two popping up in esquire was a strange one for me…

I loathe Patsy Kensit. She's made a career from marrying and divorcing famous men and now she's riding the coat tails of her son, who's only famous because of his dad.

I didn't realise Cumberbatch had famous parents! Off to Google

It seems acting has more talented Nepos than music.

I don't blame Jordyn for looking for affection from closer to home. She's been playing Dave at his own game. I'm on her side.

The fact that his team have clearly put that story out there to try and paint her as just as bad as him says all anyone needs to know about him really.

I (preciously) try not to be a cuhnt about it but my husband and my brother absolutely cannot bear the rolling out of Violet and the shows.

Urggggg agree!

I’ve been going to Foo Fighter shows for over 20 years, and I absolutely loathed the rolling out of violet the last few years.

She has a lovely voice, but zero personally or any stage presence. She was brought out again in June in London and i eye rolled and went to the loo 🙄🙄🙄
Everyone around me was the same

I feel very relieved that they didn’t do that at Manchester 😂

There are plenty of children of famous people who pursue acting, music etc as young adults with support from their fam (jamie Lee Curtis cited above is such a good example) vs young people pretty much shoved down our throats, given no choice of whether they are on social media, brought out at gigs etc which seems a huge invasion of privacy.

Blue Ivy has a role in the new mufasa movie. I was very meh when she danced on Beyonce's tour.

It's the ones that complain that it's actually harder for them because of their family link!!! Erm...no....the reason you're finding it hard is either A you're not that good or B you're a pain in the a or C both.

If they are genuinely talented there's a fair chance they'll get on and the wise ones will always acknowledge their good fortune.

The foisting of kids via social media is a whole other issue and don't get me started on the Katrashians...

Jared Harris, Richard Harris' son is a fantastic actor.

It's definitely more prevalent in acting. I actually struggled to think of any other "name" musicians with famous parents.

Like I said in another post, I wonder if Violent really wants to be a professional musician or she's just going along with her dad. She looked very nervous at the Taylor tribute when she performed Valerie and I seem to remember someone who was watching the live feed said Mark Ronson actually asked her if she was OK before they went out on stage.

I think it’s easier to not be a particularly good actor but still get stunt cast or trade on your name. Or as in Blake Lovely’s case for example, simply play a version of yourself in every role. It’s probably far harder to be a ‘bad’ musician and pull off playing in a band in front of thousands or not waste costly hours in the studio getting things right if the actual take to just isn’t on par with your band mates/backing band etc.
