I think it’s easier to not be a particularly good actor but still get stunt cast or trade on your name. Or as in Blake Lovely’s case for example, simply play a version of yourself in every role. It’s probably far harder to be a ‘bad’ musician and pull off playing in a band in front of thousands or not waste costly hours in the studio getting things right if the actual take to just isn’t on par with your band mates/backing band etc.
Ah yes, that's what I said in my first post about Rufus Taylor - so I answered a question without realising 😂 He's super talented drummer whereas he could have had access to all the rock bands in the world but without the talent it's pointless. I suppose having Roger Taylor and Taylor Hawkins as your teachers kinda helped him too though 😂

If Violet wants to be a musician and has the chops, and especially now she has turned 18 and with those connections, she will be. No way will labels want to miss out on making bank with her.

Violet Grohl went in my bad books when she absolutely butchered a cover of Jeff Buckley's 'Grace'. You gotta have the pipes for that song and she just does not.
Didn't Dave say something stupid like she's the only person who can do a decent cover of a Jeff Buckley song as well?

I find it interesting whilst reading about this over the past few weeks is how many have blamed Jordyn or tried to excuse his behaviour.
‘She married a rockstar, what did she think would happen?’, ‘they have an open relationship’, etc etc
Granted, they may have had an open relationship but there’s no evidence of that.
And yes he may be a rockstar but he made being a family man his whole brand. He had married, had three children with Jordyn, she seems to have put whatever career she had on the back burner to raise the children yet somehow it’s Jordyn’s fault that Dave cheated?
And again, even if they did have an open relationship I’m sure there is a mutual understanding that you don’t have unprotected sex and put your spouse at risk of god knows what.
Argh, sorry but this has been bugging me for weeks.

And I know to some people infidelity isn’t seen as a big issue anymore but I feel with Dave it’s different because like I said he made being a family man into his brand. He talked about it for the past 15 +years, it’s mentioned in documentaries and in interviews he did, bought his daughter out to gigs, etc. Even his book (which granted I haven’t read but I’ve been told about) doesn’t really read as a book written by a stereotypical rockstar but as a man who places a lot of emphasis on his family. And I think that’s why it sucks because not only has he lied to everyone but it’s almost underhand how he’s been, it’s not authentic. And now I feel like Dave will most likely be more angry that he’s lost some of his reputation than the fact he’s fathered a child outside his marriage at nearly 60.

I don’t know if I’m explaining it well but it’s being annoying me haha.

I wish they would revisit that article that came out after Taylor died about Dave and his behaviour. I feel like Taylor was enamoured with Dave to the extent he couldn’t say no.

Just a couple of thoughts here. I don’t believe anyone here has said it’s her fault he cheated. There is literally no suggestion of that at all. What has been said is that him being a rockstar is pretty much a guarantee of him having affairs is a valid point. Very few, if any, remain faithful to spouses-this is very well documented.

Also, he is not nearly 60. 59 is nearly 60. It’s bad enough as it is, and that the new mother is likely 20 something at best.

What article did come out after Taylor Hawking died? I had a search but could not find anything.

I think I found it
That article ... The Dave who was Taylor's best mate is very different from Dave the band-leader (and that is amplified through the managment), and by that logic, Dave the husband.

I think it's pretty clear the the Foo Fighters are not a typical band in the fashion of say Queen, where all members are creatively equal. It's always been Dave's band, he hires musicians he knows will do his musical bidding and who help him achieve his vision. It's not creatively collaborative, Dave tells them to jump and they ask "how high?" He wanted the very best, he got them, but they don't really get a say in the finished product. This was shown with the first drummer being let go, Im sure his version of events was that he felt Dave was stifling his creativity.

I think the article is interesting. I don't think it should be used to prove that Dave pushed Taylor too hard. Taylor was a grown man, he could have said", this is too much, something has to change or I have to leave". It sounds to me like he was letting off steam to his friends about his workload rather than making it official.

On the other hand, the rebuttal by "Foo Fighter management" isn't trustworthy because Dave has proved to be less than a reliable narrator and fully willing to lie to his wife and kids, so he's not going to think twice about saving face and being dishonest with his fans.

Then we have Taylor saying he's working too much, yet he has numerous side projects on the go. Which was it?

I once saw an interview in which Taylor said that he was fully aware that if was not for Dave he would not have a paycheck or something to that effect.

Maybe the tours were especially exhausting for Taylor, I don't know how taxing it is to give a concert, and how exhausting it is to play the drums.
It certainly looks exhausting to me!
His other side projects might have been less demanding (physically and mentally).
But I noticed this contradiction, too!

Dave constantly wants to travel and go on world tours with massive long list of dates. He has a lot of energy, more so than Taylor did. It was known that Taylor was in awe of him and knew that the Foo Fighters was his main source of income. Maybe Taylor didn’t feel able to tell Dave that he couldn’t and didn’t want to tour as much. I know that Dave had this reputation of being the nicest guy in rock but with everything going on I’m beginning to question how he was behind the scenes. Not saying he was horrible or violent etc but from the documentary I watched of them a few years ago, when I came to work I found Dave to be very blinkered and purely focused on getting the record made and touring etc.
Taylor’s side bands didn’t do world tours and I think these massive long tours were the biggest strain for him.

Again, not saying Dave killed Taylor or anything silly like that but I can see how, potentially, Taylor felt unable to say anything if indeed this was an issue.

Very true, maybe it was more of an emotional inability to confront Dave than a case of standing up for himself.

I can't imagine how any drummer sits and plays drums for an entire concert - literally how do they do it, it must be like running a marathon!

From personal experience, having hugged many a band member in my time, I can confirm drummers are always the sweatiest when they come off stage! It's like a work out for a lot of them.

And it's also such an unnatural position to be in as well (physically I mean) sitting sort of half still and then a massive upper body workout. It must be really physically taxing

Yet Roger Taylor is in fine fettle. I suppose he didn't tour as much as Phil in the 90s,after Freddie died. Also he has a second drummer on stage with him these days. I think Rufus did it for a while before joining The Darkness.

style of drumming honestly comes down to it a lot too. roger was always upright almost jazz style stacatto drummer (charlie watts being another great example of one who was able to tour right into very old age, also drummed in a very chilled way).

taylor was always on the more frantic scale when you watch him and had a very hunched style. he was already experiencing huge issues with his back and wrists (like a lot of rockier drummers do), not to mention the general strain on his heart from playing like that for hours and months at a time.

that rolling stone article linked above has stayed with me since i read it because none of the other drummers had any reason to lie or mislead (all big names themselves). i think it sadly is true that taylor felt a bit indebted to and in awe of dave, and so was trying to power through long tours when he was in pain.
