he gets a kick out of pointing out hes been had his eyes taken out. As if its a flex to say “look how much cash ive got i can afford to be ripped off”.
Ive noticed this a lot in general society tbh amidst a cost of living crisis and so much profiteering by businesses especially for consumables. Its a form of boasting.

My gran always told me to never talk about money or how much you earn as it's bad manners.
I'm actually close to cutting a 'pal' off from my life as all he ever does is boast about what he's bought and he always mentions how much it costs, honestly can't be bothered with him now.
Spurred by social media isnt it. The lust appear to be richer and better and more virtuous and happier and more beautiful than you are.

Same, I’m a new parent and I have this mam friend who constantly brags about her amazing career and how much money she earns and how she’s buying a huge 5 bed £650k house where the local footballers live with huge grounds and how her husband earns £85k a year. Both me and my husband earn minimum wage and often struggle to make ends meet then you get tw*ts like this constantly showing off and bragging, it’s such a weird flex. If people have money then generally I’m pleased for them, especially if they’ve actually worked hard for it, there’s nothing wrong with having money but if you constantly show off and brag about it then it’s just weird and eventually costs you friendships. I’m very close to cutting off this mam friend now as I haven’t known her long and I don’t owe her anything, she’s insufferable. I think it’s very rude to talk about how much you earn all the time. My husband’s parents are exactly the same - it seems to be a thing with rich people, just like with vegans, how do you know someone has money? Because they’ll always tell you!

Let’s face it though at 5ft9 19 stone and being 55 years old it will take a hell of a lot of commitment for him to get into that type of shape again.
