Hello fellow haters and too-woke friends! I’ve been following this thread for quite some time now and I’m so glad other people see how insidious Dakota is. She is the most blatant poser there is. Self-proclaimed pretentious and a voracious reader yet mispronounces every other word in a sentence. I know when someone is putting on airs and affecting their voice, and the fact that she doesn’t think people can see through the act is insane. Even more insane is how she’s idolized by her no doubt young and inexperienced audience.

I just saw this TikTok video and burst out laughing. The idea of knocking over a plant, putting on an aesthetic outfit, stockings and heeled shoes to then film yourself cleaning it up from different angles, edit it, pick some jazz music to go over the video and then post it is hilarious to me. That certainly must take a lot of patience.

I was watching the video and she picked up a Spanish book (from a Spanish author, not just the language) and called it Latin American literature. All of the “reading in translation” fuss that some booktubers (mainly Jack) put up bothers me so much because, besides it only being a thing in english speaking countries- the rest of the world simply reads books outside of their first language without making it seem like a big deal- they also lump everything on a big “translation” pile as if those books are remotely connected by anything outside of being written in english.
These people have no knowledge of simple concepts such as an entire continent not being only one thing, each country has its own literary themes and works or that placing a country in an entirely different continent just because of the shared language makes no sense.
Afterwards she did some default statement about Latin American literature citing surrealism and stopped herself because she didn’t want to “grossly generalize” while talking about a book that’s written by an European author and set in Europe lol. It’s not even like she saw the Spanish names and reviews and assumed it was a Latin American book, she said she googled it and found out it was from Spain.

He’s an American pastor who associates with and follows a bunch of Trump fanatics so it’s not even the “Catholic Churches pretty” part of religion. She’s just following one of those Protestants who try to make Christianity seem hip for the kids by hosting podcasts and doing tiktoks while spreading right wing radicalizing messages in a “cool” way. Sorry but at this point it’s very hard to deny what she and her friends are into.
Plus, she’s following ballerina farm and Dasha.
Could a trad wife/alt-right catholic rebrand be on the horizon? It’s funny because Dasha is an adult convert who keeps badmouthing the pope in everything he says, which completely goes again Papal supremacy. There’s a whole world of adult converts who got into Catholicism because they like the aesthetics yet are disappointed when they get into the church and realize lifelong Catholics are more concerned about helping out your brothers and sisters in need than what some obscure medieval text says about doctrines or that their local priest won’t support nazi rhetoric.
As for being a trad wife, that would require too much effort. I know lots of these people play up an image on social media, but at the end of the day they do have to deal with the fact that they have a bunch of children, which is a commitment I don’t see her making.
Also, this would completely kill her writing career as far as respectable publishing circles go. Of course there’s a lot of bigotry behind closed doors, but they don’t want you to be showy about it. Besides, holding those opinions in the open would completely alienate her fanbase who, despite being impressionable teenagers, still seem to have a stronger moral conduct than she does.
So I imagine she’ll just keep adding these little innuendos and dog whistles into her content so the people it’s aimed for can recognize it, but there’s still plausible deniability, as it’s the goal of dog whistles.
I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt because social media is only a fraction of someone’s lives, even if they’re an influencer, but all of it put together along with her friends inclinations paints a very clear picture to me.

It's the fact that she's a published author and presents herself as someone who reads and writes constantly, yet she can't even pronounce 'visceral' or 'macabre' correctly (which btw, is definitely not down to her Australian accent, they're just wrong).
We're not criticising her for mispronouncing a few words (or anyone else who does so), we're criticising her for being pretentious, superficial and phoney. If the average Tattle user does know how to say a word, I don't give a shit, if someone who's whole ~aesthetic~ is how much they love reading, writing and the English language and makes money of this aesthetic is mispronouncing basic words then yeah, I'm going to call them out and suggest that perhaps they're not the expert they pretend to be.

not from melbourne (another major australian city) and hard agree. australia as a culture simply cannot stand these types of people. that whole tall poppy syndrome phenomenon. she’s takes herself far too serious and is too curated for her to have anyone take her seriously. not to say these people don’t exist (they absolutely do… i go to a university filled with a bunch of them) but regular people won’t tolerate her bs. also australia as a literary space is so far beyond her pretentious, colonial “nowhere-girl”isms. (i say, as an indigenous person, that it is quite frankly offensive to refer to this country as “nowhere” it’s terra nullius all over again.
