Just started watching Dancing for the Devil on Netflix. Apparently about a cult… will review it later for you x

I saw that earlier and added it to my watchlist - I look forward to your review 🙂
I’m in the middle of the last episode. Wow so much wrong. In the programme (based in USA) they say it’s not a crime to control someone’s life but it is here in the U.K..
they are in the process of trying to sue the cult founder Robert Shinn (for loss of earnings I think) but he got wind of it and is trying to sue them first and it’s due to go to trail in 2025. I feel a bit seen off as I wanted to watch his downfall on the programme!. He reminded me so much of the cult leader in the group I was part of. Owning so many odd companies and the workers are all from the church. So they pay you wages then have you pay it back to them in donations so it looks like you are getting paid for your work. But as they provide accom and food they try to justify you giving it all back to them

It’s so weird how in America it seems like you just call yourself a pastor, organise some “bible study” of looking at a bible and going on about it, and everyone just believes that you are a good person and somehow close to God?
Im sure there are people everywhere who can get sucked in by religiousness, but in the USA it’s like anyone can be disarmed and exploited if you play the Jesus card to them.

And people throw money at you as well, absolutely mad!

It happens in the UK too. Have you not noticed how many 'churches' have sprung up lately.

I’m can confirm that it does happen in this country (U.K.). The cult I was part of was being run with men who had no religious background or ‘training’ they just decided to set up a fee paying church offering something’new’

I feel like if you were a 20 something and started doing bible study in the UK and your family and friends weren’t religious, they’d be like OH NO

Ambition is really a vulnerability huh. Just watched Dancing For The Devil - very good programme, very odd scenario.

So about Self aren’t they, the aul cults - do nothing for anyone else, preach no kindness, no community outreach (obvs). Cults that put Christ at the centre - it’s just, that’s not it. So another gap and vulnerability- what Jesus Christ actually apparently preached.

Of course but the people (vulnerable yes) who end up suckered in - does it never chime? The self self selfness of it all.

These dancers were - all of a sudden like (planted) - looking to return to Church. At least some of might have known what the teachings of Christ were supposed to be about - others, giving, forgiveness etc. Suppose if you’re ripe for being brainwashed not much critical thinking going on.

America is especially Me focussed though I guess. The American Dream and all that.

But yes it’s always This Is About You Being The Best You followed by Then Give Me Money and Blowjobs.

So…a possible cult is holding a 3 day seminar next month in a hall not that far from me. As part of their ”World Living Room Tour 2024“
lol.

They call themselves Divine Truth and it’s an Australian bloke who reckons he’s Jesus and his wife(?) who reckons she’s Mary Magdalene. I think they were on This Morning once. Of course they deny it’s a cult.

These are some important notes about attending;
Important Notes

1. Jesus and Mary will endeavor to use recordings in a respectful manner, and for teaching purposes.

2. Please consider that unloving people may copy Divine Truth material for free and use the material in a dishonest, disrespectful, or even malicious manner (this is often the case with media outlets).

3. Your likeness and recording of your voice, once shared on the internet, is virtually impossible to remove from the internet even if it is later removed from the Divine Truth website, Divine Truth public servers, Divine Truth download servers, and Divine Truth video and audio sharing platforms worldwide.

4. Insincere participants (as adjudicated by Jesus & Mary) will be asked to leave any event.

Please be loving when booking to attend any event.

Keep in mind;

- Please only book places for people (you and others you may know) who are sincere about receiving personal truth, prepared to confront personal error, and who want to learn more about the practical, personal application of God's Truth, and who respect Jesus and Mary as a source of God's Truth on earth.

- People who are unloving to Jesus and Mary, or to other participants, will be asked to leave.

________

Apparently some locals are rather upset and the vicar has been informed.

Did anyone watch the Gwen Shamblin Lara documentary, The Way Down. She set herself up as a church leader. Told people to lose weight for God. She had weird Marge Simpson hair. Talked one of her church members into whipping his kid with a glue stick, one child was suffocated in a trunk, when the parents followed her advice. They are in jail now. She married Tarzan Joe Lara. They made his ex girlfriends life hell as they tried to get custody of her child. Then they died in an air crash. She was a complete nightmare.
