I think what broke my heart today was hearing how a railworker died directly because someone with Covid coughed in her face. For most of this lockdown I've been simmering with anxiety but the stress today is something else! Am lucky to be able to work from home (admin) and feel terrible for our keyworkers and now other workers being pressured into getting the bus to work. Hopefully tomorrow the anxiety spike will calm down. Have really been trying to strike the balance of keeping informed and not reading too much. Feel like I've been failing at that though!
It's a very scary situation we're all in without a doubt ,the only thing we can do is keep ourselves well informed to minimise catching it .But that leads to reading other things .and that's not good when your anxious xx.My husbands a key worker so has been out working throughout all of this, he just follows the advice and gets on with it .what happened that poor railworker is terrible and people that treat this as a joke will soon know how funny it is when it lands on their doorstep.Hope you feel better soon maybe take a few days off SM etc and reset xx

Work had organised a Zoom call this afternoon and I was really worried that would mean that they were about to tell us that they wanted us to return to the office. They weren’t the most understanding at the start of the lockdown and accused us of wanting to work from home so that we could “slack off”. I think they were a bit like dinosaurs about the whole thing. They eventually furloughed all of us, even though it would have been totally possible to work from home. Well, today on the call I couldn’t believe my ears. They asked us how we would feel about returning to the office and whether we would prefer to start working from home in a few weeks once business has built back up again. All of us bit their hand off! I’m extremely clinically vulnerable so have to shield and in my team we have two other vulnerable people. I feel so much calmer about the possibility of returning to work now.
I'm really pleased for you I know you were really worried x

I have the utmost empathy and respect for all of our key workers. Everyone is afraid but they don’t have the luxury to stay at home, away from the danger.

I watched this yesterday and I was very moved by it. I would recommend it to everyone. It is very emotional though and follows a team of nurses in the ICU looking after Covid patients. There are highs and lows. On there, one of the nurses was saying that PHE expects another wave in both July and October, so maybe that is why they have extended the furlough scheme until then.

I wonder whether there is a scientific reason for this.

Thinking back to a couple of weeks ago, I had a really vivid dream where I was in a meadow. In the meadow, there were holographic floating TV screens and I could climb into them. It turns out that each one was a childhood and teenage memory. Very trippy!

I wondered if this was my brain and subconscious grieving my “old, pre-lockdown life”.
That does sound like your brain grieving your pre lockdown life.
I read somewhere (I think it was a BBC news article) that one possible explanation is that when we sleep our mind finished processing events and emotions of the day and because there are more emotions and stress to process at the moment, it increases the number of vivid dreams. Also being in a new situation/ routine can cause it.
I do find dreams and theories around dreaming very interesting.

No outdoor time for nursery kids? Only table work and no play for Y1? Sounds horrendous and totally against everything eyfs should be. I totally get reasonable adjustments need made, but to me that doesn’t sound reasonable. Surely being outside there is more space to socially distance the kids?

Interested to see how it all works. That implies that every school has a load of extra classrooms. My kids school has 6 classrooms for 7 year groups (one class is composite). No way of it working at all there.
Agreed. In my experience (extensive, but not exhaustive!), staff and school leaders want to do their jobs but the plans from the government will be a logistical nightmare in many settings (staff ratios, physical space, and resources).

Similar to many in the medical professional (nurses, social workers, care assistants etc.), education professionals really don’t do it for the money. Trust me...the money is very average, term-time hours take the actual piss, and they still work a fair amount of time during holidays. I’m not a teacher myself, but have worked in education for many years previously.

In addition to the most likely nightmarish day of trying to socially distance young children, you’re likely spend most of your evenings responding to emails from parents with comments like “Betsy said that Eric definitely shared her pencil today; I’m sick with worry...how can this have been allowed to happen.”, to “When I dropped off Evie today I noticed that you were standing slightly less than 2 mtrs from another parent when you were talking to them- I do hope that isn’t a regular occurrence.” The whole situation makes me want to weep for the teachers I know...and yet I know they’ll make the best of it for the kids in their classes.

I know I sound a bit ranty....but just a bit sick of people saying that so many professions are making the most of a bad situation, why are teachers complaining about going back? Umm...because they have your beautiful children in their care! And not only do they really give a crap about your kids, but they will be well aware that you won’t hesitate to have an absolute pop at them if you feel that your child (or you, by proxy), hasn’t been properly protected, right?

If our government can’t get their act together with PPE and my loved one dies because a medical professional refused to care for them in the absence of appropriate PPE- who is to blame? I wouldn’t blame the doctor or nurse one bit. The government has blood on its hands. I am happy to keep my kids at home on 1st June and encourage schools to pushback to this government in regard to their utter lack of consideration/consultation with school leaders before they made such a rash and potentially unachievable proposals.

Boris just wants to get the economy moving- and the evidence thus far suggests that kids are in all likelihood low-risk carriers- so he’s happy to push on through regardless of huge concerns from within the profession. As I say....blood on their hands and a massive risk to so many of us. Selfish fucker who is happy to roll the dice with kids and staff in schools for the sake of getting the economy moving a month or two earlier. Don’t know why I’m surprised....Boris shows scant regard for any of his wives or children-why would he give a crap about anyone else?

Hey All, I am just about to go back and read today’s posts but just to say that my employer has contacted me and my update phone call (as whether I am going back to work or furlough extension) is Friday morning xx

It’s too early to tell how big a concern it will become, but the illness came up during a Senate hearing Tuesday when Dr. Anthony Fauci of the White House coronavirus task force warned against rushing to reopen schools in the fall. He referenced “children presenting with COVID-19 who actually have a very strange inflammatory syndrome, very similar to Kawasaki syndrome."
“I think we better be careful if we are not cavalier in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects (of the virus).’’

Jesus, Trump already hates Fauci enough 🤦‍♀️

reassuring information in this article for anyone with kids though
Pinch of salt 😬

I agree with all you've said, and said so well. I actually am a teacher, although not primary, and as of yet we have no idea what will happen in secondary schools here, we are totally in the dark. But older kids will understand more. Luckily my kids aren't expected back until September so there is plenty more time here to learn from England’s example.

Our province is starting stage 1 of reopening tomorrow but the city I am in will not be starting yet as our active cases are still considered too high. A wise decision I think.

Peter Weir has said kids will only ever return to school on a part-time basis when they eventually phase it in .He was interviewed on our local radio st a couple of days ago ,he said it's going to be a massive headache for working parents but it's the only solution they can come up with (primary and secondary).

It’s the lack of consultation over the 1st June thing that has really riled people in schools I think.....it’s like Boris had a really brief chat with someone from the DfE like...

Boris- Right, Rishi is saying that we really need to get the money moving or the economy is proper fucked. What’s the best you can do? Childcare is key.

DfE - It’s a total nightmare in all honesty, not sure we can do anything safely before September.

*long pause/awkward silence*

DfE- Well I suppose at a push we could prioritise one or two year groups....umm...(silently knowing that it can’t be done safely and they came into this Zoom call promising not to agree to it).

Boris- Excellent, email me a minimum of 2 Yr Groups, lets go for 1st June, but that’s only an ‘earliest date’ so just do your best.

*line goes dead*

DfE- duck duck fuckedy duck....all my advisors told me this wasn’t doable. But hey....Boris got the commitment from me that he wanted so I should survive the next cabinet re-shuffle 🤷‍♀️

Purposely stayed in all day as I’d a feeling everyone would be mental. Facebook reports that my town was rammed and like a normal day. My house backs on to some woods where I usually go for my daily walk, but I didn’t even venture out there today either.
My husband went to play golf though 🙄 although he went this evening. You have to book via an online system so that it’s only one (or two) people at a time so that’s quite good though. He played alone.

I went to the beach as it's my birthday 🥳 it wasnt far but a nice change. We picked a less popular beach and it wasnt too bad thankfully. My 6 year old got all upset as we got back to the car saying we were going to catch the virus and die and how we shouldn't have gone out today. Broke my heart. He calmed down after a snack 😂😂

I almost did to go to the shop for some pop but decided I'm going to avoid going out at all for a few days as I'm still not feeling great after my bad migraine the other day.

They just aren't arsed. My friend lives in vegas and she said that the problem they're having there is that they can't reopen their lockdown until other states do it. So vegas have been on lockdown for maybe longer than us. Everything completely shut casinos and everything. But they can't reopen until other states lockdown cause they risk other people travelling into vegas and then having to do the whole cycle again.

It's a bit shambolic.

Really random but Vegas makes me think of Celine Dion and her residency she had there, I watched a documentary on it once and she was rushing around here, there and everywhere, never a dull moment....I wonder how different her life is now and how quiet it must be, I wonder if she likes it or will go back to a crazy life again?

Sorry to derail, just a random thought! Xxx
