Clapping or not clapping is the least of our worries right now, we've got a potentially lethal virus going about and the threat of a police state being demanded by half the public. All this causes fear, we're all scared and it isn't healthy. Maybe we need to take a step back and remember who we were three weeks ago?
I completely agree.

If people want to clap, awesome. Go ahead. You do you! If that's how YOU want to show your appreciation then there's nothing wrong with that. But jeez, don't worry about what other people are doing.

It's not the clapping that's the issue for me. It's that some people who are taking part are getting this attitude that they're better than the people who don't. I stay out of the clapping debate as much as I can but when someone is insinuating I don't care about the NHS because I didn't clap, I'm going to step in, pandemic or not.

People are suddenly SO concerned about what others are doing. I understand if people are obviously breaking the lockdown rules but criticising people for the little things is just OTT nitpicking.

I feel like people are doing the clap for their own mental health - to feel like they are doing something. I don't really feel it helps the actual staff in any way what I hope they are going to get is better working or pay conditions after this.

What I find a bit vulgar (for want of a better word) is all the patting yourself on the back that goes on after the clap. Videos of people out doing it or telling their street well done for clapping ?! Why !

the sooner this is all over the better
its creating this whole 'i'm better than you attitude' and i'm so effing over it.
I agree. I’ve said it before on these threads but this crisis is bringing out a really ugly side to some people (definitely not all though, I do recognise that ❤).

It really is. And it's a shame because a time like this could really bring people together (in the non literal sense, of course), but it's having the opposite effect.

this.
not one part of me wanted to video myself or my son or my street. It’s vulgar and defies the point of the matter.
For us, it was a lovely moment with our neighbours showing each other we are all in it together kinda thing. We all quietly went back to our own lives after that quick few minutes

Just looked out the window, it is 13 degrees here today and there are like 10 neighbours out socialising. How thick are people?

As much as I’m desperately searching for the light of this veryyyyyy long Coronavirus infected tunnel, I’m going to miss this thread with all of its fucked up comments when it’s all (eventually) over 🥰🤣

About the clapping one thing I will say, is it is lovely to ‘hear’ other people.
Self isolating, social distancing is incredibly lonely. Those moments of hearing people clapping, cheering and hooting makes you realise you are not alone in the world and that is a positive thing. You go about your day and sometimes you don’t see a soul. So hearing neighbours cheering is like we are in this together and there are people out there.

The thing with the clapping and everything else is for SOME people it’s not for the nhs. It’s for the Facebook likes. My sister said that friends were posting pictures of their mums in PPE for Facebook likes and asked mum to take a photo in hers next time she’s on a shift?! Mums not even on Facebook so entirely for likes for my sister.

Ive clapped every week but not once posted about it on my social media. Just like I’ve not overly mentioned mums job, or even the fact I’m still going in as a teacher anywhere else but anonymously on here. I don’t need a pat on the back or a few likes. I just want to keep doing what we’re doing and get through this 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel the exact same way as this.
