I’ve never had a dishwasher in my life. I couldn’t be arsed loading and unloading and then having to clean it every few weeks. I just do my dishes straight after using them, roasting hot water.

The filter can get food particles and debris. If there’s a buildup the dishwasher can start to smell
Glad you said it I was thinking I must be a right minger. I have never cleaned my dishwasher
In my defence I do rinse everything before I put it in so maybe it just cleans itself with the dishes

This is how you clean your dishwasher. It does it for you. Stick this in the plate slot when dishwasher is empty. Put it through hottest cycle and done.
My top dishwasher tip is to put used lemons on the top rack for a couple of cycles. Next time you run the dishwasher it smells so fresh and all the glasses feel so squeaky clean. It works with limes too.
