Under section 71 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, consent for choking cannot be used as a defence when the action results in GBH (as in Betsy's case) or ABH.
Betsy and Dylan have both admitted to numerous people that the choking happened. It's in Betsy's medical records that blood vessels in her neck were compromised. The police have the evidence they need to take it further, although whether that would happen irl is debatable considering how many cases of deliberate non-consensual violent sexual assault (i.e. grape) don't make it past the initial report.

The wiki says Alfred Tatlock's wife was called Bessie as a nn for Elizbeth, and Harry Hewitt's wife was called Lizzie. Neither of them appeared onscreen it seems though.
I wonder if it's the most common character name.
Also we have Bessie Street - which was Silk Street and was "renamed in honour of Charles Hardcastle's mother Elizabeth."

Can they not leave Betsy alone? She is upset. She has enough going on. They are on about consent, but they not are letting her consent to not pressing charges. There's plenty of time down the line to worry about that, they should be concentrating on getting her as well as she can for the time being.
