The hyper-fixation’s are very interesting as the same people seem to get the same ones. They dropped The Voice for Palestine.

That makes a lot of sense. My hyperfixations tend to be more obscure/less important topics. For people who are avid posters on social media or are social commentators I understand how they could get stuck on topics like these.

I agree with you- the constant switch between Palestine content and promotion for her new book is absolutely jarring. While on one hand I applaud her for using her platform to help inform the public, on the other hand she is doing it in quite an extreme way which absolutely could be traumatising to some people. Not to mention splicing it with self promotion comes off as unavoidably disingenuous (not that I doubt she is being genuine, but it’s absolutely tit timing to do this). As a fellow ADHD sufferer it seems like a hyper fixation? I wonder what the publisher and her management think.
It really does seem like a hyperfixation and it’s so strange to witness. and separately I am meaning no disrespect to people with bipolar but Clementine also seems kind of like heightened at the moment like there is something more going on with her mental health and that is not me making excuses for her.
---
I can't watch the stories. It's mind boggling she thinks that talking about insta drama is activism. At least she went to the rallies in Melbourne. I also find the Palestine footage cut with requests to buy her new book to be borderline psychotic.
It really is I dont know how she justifies it to herself
---
also like the way she is arguing with everyone who disagrees with her and then having a sook about it because she took up the issue of whats happening in Palestine like 5 seconds ago but seems to have no thought for Arab women who have copped it their whole lives. Like just how everything revolves around her.

I know she relies on social media to promote her work. But I wager she'd be miles happier if she didn't have social media.

I worry about the influence she has on young ones and all the stuff she was doing with derm lab posting story after story about the expensive body mods she was having done. This new campaign also feels like public relations to try correct her reputation with the sisterhood because she is being called out by Indigenous and WOC writers for lifting their work. She doesn't have a good reputation for supporting women locally I know that much

---

nothing about Clementines work even touches the surface with systemic issues it just feels like a content stream on rotation and takes away the focus from feminists on the ground doing real advocacy work or fighting to change policies and legislation. I think she does do more harm than good. I think she was saying some good stuff a few years ago that not many feminist voices were yet talking about in media in Australia but she has lost her way and is stuck in the hate all men phase and seems to be running out of ideas. Most of my mob are in Coffs and some in Sydney and our communities are battling with severe housing crisis while Clementine telling women to leave their husband's, screams of blindsided privilege to me.
Late to the party on this thread - only just realised it existed! - but THANK YOU for saying this. The earlier years of my career were spent on advocacy for women facing social issues (DV, homelessness, teen pregnancy, SA etc) - my role was around policy making and advocating for reform through legislation. It was a tough bleeping gig. Mentally, physically. A lot harder than posting a tit loads of ‘facts and research’ on Instagram stories all night long. Ford has ZERO tact with her delivery and she borders on being a bully. Anyone who thinks otherwise, I urge you to disagree with her on something. It’ll take her 0.3 seconds until she fires back with a barrage of condescending insults, hidden behind her overuse of big words to position herself as an intellectual. She likes to position herself as an ally, a thought leader and an expert on all things feminism - she brings nothing but rage and division to the very spaces she claims to support - I 100% agree that she does more harm than good. Unpopular opinion I’m sure, but my experience working alongside and for vulnerable women underpins my perspective on her and despite my attempts to understand her POV (and despite agreeing with some aspects of her work), I can not support this woman.

Clementine Ford is a performative blue tick feminist who is willing to throw women under the bus to stay popular & relevant. She can get in the bin.

👏👏👏👏👏 I could have just said this instead. Because, YES.

I’ve actually enjoyed some of Clem’s commentary around marriage (and I’m saying that as a married woman!), but this just feels really mean. I don’t see the need to put some girl on blast who Clem (presumably) doesn’t even know?
Yes! tit like this! What was the point of this? What purpose did this serve? Did she really think people needed to know her opinion (judgement) on a wedding that she had zero business commenting on? Her anger (rage, wrath) is so displaced.

I have always aimed to use social media to view a wide range of views. I found lately that not only does Clementine do this but others as well… I’ve said this before but Lauren DuBois I find has similar tendencies.
I really enjoyed her content but the deeper she went on issues the more bullish she became. I wonder if it was due to her branching out into other social media platforms that was the catalyst.

Sorry guys, I tend to disagree. Of all the things to criticize Clem on, this one isn’t it. Genocide is taking place in Gaza with over 11,000 civilians killed in 4 weeks. Half of which are children. They’re starving, thirsty, fleeing constant bombardment, have no access to medicine or medical care with every major hospital being targeted by Israel. Their homes, schools, refugee camps, churches and mosques have all been bombed. POC are TIRED. Arabs are tired. Yes they’re speaking up too, but sometimes it’s nice to see others outside of the community stand up and amplify Palestinian voices, especially those with a large platform. What is taking place is undoubtebly a genocide. Your questions should be - why aren’t more people screaming about Gaza on their platforms? Why aren’t more people “hyper fixated” on the horrors Israel is inflicting on the Palestinian people?

Does someone want to start a second Clem fan thread? God forbid you come on to Clem’s tattle and say something negative 🙄 We know what’s happening in Gaza, it’s horrific, it’s being discussed all over the internet. This is a place to snark about influencers, including Clementine.
I’m not even Clem fan? Hence why I’m here. Speaking up during a genocide just seemed like a weird thing to “snark” on but go off gf 👍🏼

You don’t think it’s super weird and off she’s posting this war content with PROMOTION of her new book???
---
Like it’s generating more interest in her IG that might lead to more sales and more money for her? Or nah.

I guess I did find it odd, but this all broke out at the same time her book release was scheduled, so I saw it the other way. Instead of senselessly just promoting her book exclusively as though there’s nothing going on in the world, she put the genocide at the forefront and also fulfilled her book commitments.
Maybe I’m naive, but it’s just super frustrating to watch influencers/feminists in a similar position to her not using their platforms at all to speak on it, which I find worse.

all of this is true but if you need to rely on Clementine Ford to tell you about it, you're an idiot. You can literally log on to any news website or TV channel and see the devastation for yourself. ABC News 24 is currently showing dead babies in Al Shifa hospital. I'm also terribly skeptical about anyone's power to supposedly amplify Palestinian voices via the mysterious Instagram algorithm - who exactly is it being amplified to?

Thank you 👏🏻👏🏻 totally agree. All the arguing and finger pointing and calling out. I didn’t realise my Instagram was a news channel where I was expected to blast the daily atrocities around the world.

Amplified to anyone would be great at this point. Palestinians aren’t asking for anything of us except to share what’s happening to them and to lobby for a ceasefire. Not everyone is seeking out ABC news, and the majority of the mainstream media does report on it but has always followed the Israeli narrative, even when it’s clearly propaganda. Things are slowly beginning to shift, but it’s not enough. Agreed that if you’re relying on Clem exclusively then you’re extremely ignorant, but I do respect anyone who’s using their platform for the greater good in these times. You or I may be well read on the history and context of what’s happening right now, but I assure you the majority of people are not.

Mod edit, let's get back on topic and not argue with each other

Yeah look if there's one thing I can take from all these influencers insisting on posting in between shots of brunches and selfies, it's that so many people had no idea this conflict goes back well over 50 years and is enormously complex - so consider my "awareness raised"

Ford fails to recognize or acknowledge that it is ALSO a very tit time to be Jewish or an Israeli right now. The censorship of those not viewed as the ‘oppressed minority’ (which, if you’ve ever studied religion or the plight of the Jews, seems very bleeping ironic…) is real. The blasts of ‘information’ she continues to share, is emotionally loaded rhetoric, with little to no nuance. Pretty standard and on-brand for her tbh.

Not here to start a debate on ‘What-aboutisms’, but feel like there needs to be some space where she is called out for her bullying nature - and send love to all those who feel their voices cannot be amplified right now (due to fear of persecution /cancelled /called out on her page).

Her rage diminishes everything that she thinks and believes constitutes social justice, human rights and equality.
