Defamation cases are notoriously difficult to win though, generally I mean.Antonella's article is pretty bad - it's obvious she doesn't like Clementine so the review is going to be bad regardless. It unclear if she has even read the book. She holds very misogynistic views and is clearly transphobic AND she's written a book about "the feminine"I don't love everything about Clementine but I think I like Antonella even less.
She just seems so childish too, the way she talks about why she accepted her partners proposal, and the way she tried to play everyone and say the article wasn't being published just to see the reaction. Like grow up - if you believe in what you've written and stand by it, why the need for all the extra publicity?
I'm unsure what the relevance to her father has though. We aren't responsible for our parents choices and we often grow up having wildly different perspectives on life to our parents. The one nation bit is a cheap shot imo. Clem has also talked about her father and how she calls him out and that she disagrees with a lot of his ideals. The fact that she can't influence her own father/family is a perfect example of how patriarchy and racism can thrive in our world.
My aunty is wildly religious and her son (my cousin) had to use IVF and it caused all kinds of friction in their family. He is not responsible for her very misguided ideals about conception and science vs religion.
Clem was sued for defamation by Carl Soda I think - she was cleared of everything. Clementine is smart in how she does things, I think she is smart enough to work just within the law even if she employs some horrible tactics. I will be interested to see how this latest defamation case goes

I’ve read one of Gambotto’s books a long time ago - a collection of her journalism. I wouldn’t call her a conservative exactly, more a contrarian, but she is very, very acid-tongued and a much better writer than Clementine.

Oh I actually agree with you - you can't choose your family and Clem's made her thoughts on her father very clear. I was more admiring the neatly wrapped package of an insult that Gambotta Burke came up with.

I had never heard of Antonella prior to this, but she comes across as quite cuckoo. Her articles aren’t very well written and seem to really miss the point? I think a well written critique of Clementine would have its place, but these articles certainly aren’t that.

I don’t like how Clem has behaved recently but largely she’s correct when it comes to her politics, she’s abrasive and inappropriate and has way over fixated on this issue, but she’s also not wrong.

Lauren has posted anti-Semitic theories often since October 7th. She seems to think saying “Zionist” instead of “Jew” is some Get Out Jail Free card but it isn’t. When she’s insinuating that Frank Lowy controls the Australian government because “Zionist”, she’s peddling anti-Semitic theories about Jews controlling the world. It is nonsense.
Clementine - for all that she’s a self-aggrandising, attention-seeking clown who hates any woman who disagrees with her - has been a lot more careful. I give her credit for that but it’s gross that she doxxes women and deliberately riles up her audience who go on to harass and abuse women online. If you’re sending images of dead babies to Jewish women in Australia because you and Clem hate their political views, you’re not a good person. It doesn’t mean you care more about Palestinians, it means you’ve lost your damn mind.

I don't want to derail the thread but I have thought the same thing about Lauren's constant reference to Zionists, she's not doing it nearly as neatly as Clem who prior to the Mama Mia shitstorm was at least not trying to name prominent Jewish Australians. I have many Jewish friends with family in Israel who don't support this war - the fact that they (and I!) don't believe they should be planning to leave Israel would make them Zionists in many peoples eyes, and apparently it's OK to openly hate people under this label now. It's terrifying.
The timing of Clementines story about Jerry Seinfield is interesting considering he is Jewish.

I cringed so hard when Lauren shared the story of someone tagging her alongside all of the Gazan journalists. Lauren sharing posts from the comfort of her big weird house or posting antisemitic rants with her hair and make up done to perfection being tagged along with people actually living the horrors in Gaza makes me sick. I’m still wondering how many Afghans her husband killed while she makes herself the Australian face of fighting for Palenstine and against islamaphobia
