Clear braces

Has anyone had Invisalign to tackle inwards slanting teeth? My bottom teeth slant inwards and the simulation does show that Invisalign should resolve it but the dentist said that it may not be 100% successful as these types of cases are difficult to resolve fully. He said there is a new technique with the attachments which helps.

He also told me that wires at the end won't be suitable and the retainer will be better. But for my case, he recommends I wear the retainers all day for 6 months after my Invisalign has finished and then reduce it to nights.

I've had a few consultations and this dentist was the most realistic and reassuring. Plus he is a diamond provider.

I'm just not sure overall if it is worth it or if I can be bothered. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I think Invisalign is harder than I expected, even having had fixed braces for a couple of years as a teenager. There have been times I've been miserable and in pain, I've felt self conscious and I've wondered why I've spent money to do this to myself. If you're not sure it's worth it, then maybe it's not for you? My self confidence is improving the closer I get to the end but I was really insecure about my teeth. Is it a problem that bothers you, or just something that you know there is potential to fix? If the latter, I'd maybe not bother putting myself through it.

Has anyone tried Smile Direct for clear aligners?
I’ve not tried it but I know someone who did and ended up with gum recession and their teeth in a worse state than when they started with it. You basically don’t get to see a dentist throughout the treatment as it’s all done online so it’s much easier for things to go wrong.

I have no experience with Smile Direct but the not seeing the dentist at all for the whole treatment was a concern for me too. It’s not that much cheaper than Invisalign so I would rather pay a bit more for peace of mind! Maybe it would be ok if your teeth only needed small adjustments though.

Don’t worry. I can only speak from my experience but I felt mild discomfort with each new tray for a day or so, but because the change is so gradual , you barely feel it. My dentist would extend the time between new trays if I felt uncomfortable which could be an option?
My teeth felt way more sensitive when I did the whitening afterwards. It really is short term pain (discomfort) long term gain.

That’s good news. I just remember how achey the fixed braces were every time they got tightened 🥲

When you first put them on youl think youl never be able to get them on and off yourself but you will get into your own knack of doing it lol first few days will be the worst! My first week were the worst of the whole treatment. None after my first set were as bad! I know change trays often and not necessarily needed but I got some of the retainer brite tablets from Amazon to clean them. I’ve finished my trays etc now and only wear my retainer at night time, still use the tablets now, they are great. I know you’re not meant to but i did drink tea and coffee with my trays in as long as it wasn’t piping hot! My ortho never noticed or commented that he knew I did this so it obv didn’t make any difference to me personally 😂😂😂

I did the same. I drank all drinks with my trays still in. The first week was horrific but it was never bad after that

I’ve almost finished by dental work having Invisalign and then a dental implant. I’m really happy with it. The only downside is the cost of the upkeep of it all. X2 hygienist appointments a year, special flossing products, whitening to keep the same colour as my ceramic crown, retainer cleaner etc.

I definitely preferred Invisalign to fixed braces that I had as a teenager.

Smh I did the measurements for my second lot of refinements last week and my dentist just text me like sorrryyy we ducked up the measurements, can you come back so we can do them again? 💀 I’m honestly so done with them at this point, my teeth have been looking straight for months now except for one stubborn tooth which doesn’t want to rotate, but at this point I just really can’t wait to get to the end of it

Hiii guys I’ve decided to go for the invisalign and found a dentist who is incredible. I’m having a few fillings and a hygienist visit before I start my Invisalign though, did anyone else have this? He recommends i get my teeth perfect before starting the Invisalign!

I had two old fillings that needed replaced and had to get them done before I started Invisalign. Apparently if they are old they can get damaged with the braces/teeth moving?

I’m finding the teeth with the new fillings are extra sensitive now I have the braces but apparently it’s to be expected. I mentioned to my dentist this week and he said they will just stop treatment for a couple of weeks if it gets really bad. It’s a lot of trauma on the teeth in a short space of time!

I also had a hygienist appt before I started but I hadn’t had one in ages so it was well overdue 😬

I think I spent almost £5k on my teeth in the space of 8 weeks!!

So I'm now on tray 8 of 13 refinements. I'll be honest, it's not great. My bite still isn't normal and I have a very wobbly upper tooth.

At this point I'm still glad I did it because I had significant bite issues and a wobbly tooth (different one that has now settled) anyway and would have potentially lost teeth that way, however it's not the result I thought I'd have.

I can't bite my back teeth together and I still can't smile in what feels like a natural way.

The change in my bite shunts my bottom jaw out so I look weird, especially when smiling and I miss the face I used to have.

So my advice is do it but don't expect it to solve all the problems.

Has anyone found that their lip shape changed after having braces? I’m just about to start tray #6 and definitely noticing my top lip looks smaller!

I think it must be a combo of having been propped up by my sticky out teeth which have been corrected and my bottom jaw being brought forward.

Hello! Be good to hear any other experiences. I had braces off last week and a clear removable retainer fitted today. It doesn’t fit - the ortho jammed it in, I was crying with the pain. He said it’s because a tooth has moved? He took forever to get it out as I couldn’t and then I couldn’t get it back in myself so he took another 10 minutes to shove it in and sent me away. Got home and had to get my mum to help get it out - took 45 minutes and was so sore! Now I can’t get it back in! Has anyone else had any experience like this?

Thanks!
