I bought some mince pies recently and I wasn't impressed. They tasted a bit artificial. I hope the manufacturers aren't cutting corners with their ingredients ... which I'm sure they are. 🤪
I'm really cutting back this year. 🤞

I was distinctly unimpressed with a lot of what I was influenzad to buy last year.

So this year it's quality not quantity. No more chemical crap. And when I'm looking at the shop food brochures I feel nauseous so no sickly sweet stuff either!
So far I've only secured the shortbread I loved last year.

I've been looking at some recipes in the Christmas mags online from the library, so I might have a bash at them. Things like these tempted me:

I love them. They smell great but I have a deep pile carpet now and they drop so many needles it’s a real faff to clean them up. With hard flooring it was easy to hoover them. I’m going for an artificial one this year for that reason.

Honestly, they were absolutely honking - the pastry was really undercooked and pale and I needed a magnifying glass to find the filling. I was actually really sad (although I felt thoroughly vindicated in my insistence that Christmas and Christmassy stuff should be banned until December)
😉

I'd make it banned until at least Dec 11th and finishing on Dec 27th. No NYE and Jan 1 a normal working day.

Why should 2026 be any better than 2025?

Save money and feel the benefits in keeping warm and eating well and healthily.

My Christmas tree decs are all the old traditional style ones but all are different I don’t have any matching ones, I’ll buy so many every year.

I do like the quirky baubles like Santa playing football, robot one and food ones but I wouldn’t have them on my tree. My children have a little tree in their rooms and they have them sort on theirs.

I’m going London next month to do some Christmas shopping, I’ve never been before and I’m hoping it will be christmasy! 🎅🏼 🎄
Pop into the Connaught Patisserie, it's lovely at that time

Love this thread so marking myself in it! I've had a rubbish Monday, hate my job etc etc and all that's keeping me going just now is the thought of finishing up for Christmas. I really miss having children at Christmas time, not my own but nieces and nephews, cousins etc. Everyone in my family now live further away and do their own thing which is fine, it's what you want to see your family doing but it'll be a bit bittersweet this year for me and will just be me and my dog! I am still looking forward to it though but will miss the santa magic. I'm considering putting my decorations up this weekend just to cheer myself up a bit although I'm going to leave my tree for a while longer yet before putting that one up

Never had a real Christmas tree. Should I go for it or are they too much of a faff?
Do it! Nothing beats a real tree. The fun of going out and picking the perfect one, watching the staff net it up, trying to squeeze it into the car home. The smell of it filling the whole living room ❤. It’s just the best.
I had a real tree every year growing up. My partner was on team artificial tree! I persuaded him to get a real one a couple of years back and he’s converted now. It’s the highlight of each Christmas. Do it - you won’t regret it!!! 🎄 X

Put your tree up, watch all the Christmas movies, have little snack plates, let the lights twinkle, maybe fill a gift wish for a child whose parents are struggling and play extra secret Santa x

I always put mine up middle of November ☺ it’s our first Christmas in our new house and I’m really excited. I need to order some Christmas lights for outside. Got a Halloween party this weekend so once that’s done I’ll be taking the Halloween decs down and preparing for my Christmas ones 🎄

Does anyone watch and buy from those shopping tv channels? QVC have a dedicated show to Xmas gifts. I was watching it the other night. It was pretty good.

They were showcasing a collapsible pre-lit Xmas tree the other night. It was actually a really good idea. They had an option of 4 colours I think.
