Hi, new to the thread 
Does anyone remember their best Christmas as a child/teen? I have felt really nostalgic recently and wanted to share the memory I was talking to my mum about this last weekend....
I was 14 and my dad had been made redundant. My mum says it was around Easter time that it happened. My mum was a sahm so we just got by on my dads wages. The job he lost was pretty well paid but he then had to take a few temp and agency jobs which he did and he probably started and got finished from perhaps 4 jobs that year. My mum recalls he found it hard to find a permanent position anywhere. Anyway, about 2 weeks before xmas his temp contract ended. Of course, he knew it was only tempory so tried to find other work before it ended but then again, not many firms take on so close to christmas. Anyway, I was 14 and not dumb so I knew not to ask for the latest Nike trainers and a phone...the Nokia 3310 were the phones to have back then. I remember so well what I had that year....a make up bag that my mum had filled with nail polish, manicure set, make up brushes and lip glosses. The usual smellies like body mists, bubble baths and bath salts. And then there was this watch with a silver strap and a green face. I knew it was from Asda because I used always look at jewelry and watches when we went food shopping. I'm 37 and still have the watch as like a keepsake.
I remember this Christmas because the family rallied around and we had a big Christmas dinner with the family who all bought something to eat and drink. Also, my niece was only 6 weeks old and I remember feeding her her 'christmas dinner'.....of course a bottle
but it was special because it was her first Christmas and I was excited at being an auntie for the first time.
That christmas in the year 2000 was the one that stuck out for me.

Yes Christmas when I was 5 my present was my black Labrador puppy Ben who I had 15 years (family wanted a dog and were ready for the commitment not condoning animals as gifts unless it’s all been thought of) it was magical he walked in and I was beside myself. My best ever present was a bar of Galaxy.
I told my husband about an incident that happened when I was a kid- I had been given some galaxy chocolate as a stocking filler and my stepdad just opened the bar and sat there eating it all. Because I politely pointed out to him that he was eating my Christmas present I was banished to my room alone for the rest of Christmas.
My husband remembered the story and many months later I opened up a massive bar of Galaxy that he had got me to ‘make up’ for the past.
It remains my favourite Christmas memory.
Oh, the injustice! Glad it made it up for you a little. As a child I hated stuff like that where adults could punish you or not follow through because “hey, I’m the adult”

Not sure why - he died nearly a whole year later (around the 10th December the next year) so it wasn't a "ohh last Christmas together" moment as we didn't know he was ill (he had a very aggressive lung cancer and died a few months after diagnosis). But I just remember almost all of it, including travelling there, sleeping over at my grandparents, the presents and the dinner. It might be because we rarely ever slept over at my grandparents as they had a tiny bungalow and my nan didn't really like hosting.
I got a little hand blown glass horse thimble with my name on which I still have and love.

I was wondering about trading standards, as surely thats not allowed. I keep checking their website and the tree has been sold at a higher price in all the sales they've had since I bought it in September/October. This is the highest price I've seen it being sold at.
I didn't know they gifted trees to influencers, they don't need to do that. I wouldn't have bought one if I'd have known that. I know it's not the Jess thread, but she'll be gutted she's not been gifted one.
What dessert is everyone having on Christmas day?
We have breakfast and then don't have another meal until actual Christmas Dinner, which my mum always makes at regular dinner time 
so by the time we have food in front of us, we turn into a ravenous pack of wolves and eat so much that no-one even wants to think about dessert 
I guess the half a tub of heroes I make my way through between breakfast and dinner counts as my dessert
This sounds like my mum's starving us but we have a buffet for Christmas eve, and there's usually a ton of that leftover, so everyone helps themselves to that whenever they feel like it between breakfast and dinner
so by the time we have food in front of us, we turn into a ravenous pack of wolves and eat so much that no-one even wants to think about dessert I guess the half a tub of heroes I make my way through between breakfast and dinner counts as my dessert

Decided against the whole turkey thing for two of us. Might do a posh shepherds pie which I can make the day before and have a late lunch.
Then in the evening I’ll do pigs in blankets, chestnuts, cheese and crackers and port.

Apart from Christmas pudding and chocolate fudge cake there is always banana angel delight with brandy snaps on the side. Hubby absolutely loves angel delight and the brandy snaps make it for him! Too sweet for my tastes.
