Nah she's definitely cancelled. Will likely have to change her name and fade into obscurity because most people won't want to touch her with a barge pole - espec if people write more thinkpieces about however this ends.Fucking hell so much has happened today, that took me ages to catch up on!
Totally agree with everything you lovely people have said. Haven't much to add myself except to echo what someone said about Chidera's ageism towards Aja and Stephanie combined with a healthy dose of misogynoir (for anyone who doesn't know, "Aunty" is what you call your Black female elders - typically refers to a Black woman who is middle aged or older - normally used lovingly or at least tongue in cheek but here Chidera is using it as an insult). She's not just insulting them for being older than her, but for being older Black females.
Honestly, how tf can all these white girls not see how racist Chidera is against any Black person who dares stand against her?! "C**n", "Aunty", these are all racialised terms she's flinging around, it's honestly disgusting.
I think Munroe posted recently about coming "back to work" after taking a few weeks off to enjoy Xmas and recover from surgery. Seems this has been one of the first things she's posted about/ dealt with since being back on social media full time, it must have been eating her up over her break, the sheer amount of abuse. And it only took one big influencer speaking openly, soberly and candidly about this situation (and actually naming names and daring to publicly support FG and DB, rather than solely condemning CE with no mention of the accused parties), for the others to speak up in a more open and direct way. We love to see it!
I really think someone in Chidera's life needs to confiscate her phone and her WiFi router lol. She needs some time offline to reflect instead of constantly reacting and antagonizing people online. It's like she's addicted to the dopamine hit every time she stirs the pot. But my god, when the money from this rush of white-guilt-driven book sales starts to run dry, and when she realises she's completely trashed her own reputation and has no career left to speak of.... It's gonna be really bleak and sad for her.
If Chidera showed any remorse or apologised to everyone she's hurt, I might even feel sorry for her - she's a young woman who got rich and famous way too quickly and clearly couldn't handle the power that brought, and didn't have good people around her to help her see sense. When the anger burns out she's going to be very panicked about burning all of her bridges, I am sure. She's kind of backed herself into a corner where she's got no option but to keep exploiting white guilt if she wants to keep the £££ flowing in. So that makes her even less likely to change her narrative.
As fucked as she's been, I really hope that Chidera doesn't end up as a victim of cancel culture here. She's young and deserves the opportunity to redeem herself. Maybe it'd help teach her not to go on big cancelling witch hunts as well, and to extend grace to people, or at least follow proper routes for dispute resolution (especially where money's involved).
But if she can't do that then I 100% wanna see Florence get an injunction against her and/ or sue. Munroe and Diving Bell too!
I think she means harmed by having her IP stolen and not being believed as a BWRachel Ricketts alluding that she's been personally harmed by the shitstorm. Wonder if/ when we will find out more.
We can dream!! :') although I feel like she'd also have a lot of personal making-up to do for Florence and Munroe. Like, if I was either of them I wouldn't just take that and be satisfiedNah she's definitely cancelled. Will likely have to change her name and fade into obscurity because most people won't want to touch her with a barge pole - espec if people write more thinkpieces about however this ends.
Here's what I can see happening, but it's highly unlikely, so if it does... let me know if you spot a flying pig or two
She her bows to mounting pressure and apologises. Says the weight of being a young black woman in a (genuinely) structurally racist industry affected her beyond belief, all leading up to this breakdown. After time away and being able to recover from the exhaustion of it all, she sees she was wrong to go about things how she was. All she ever wanted was to fight for herself in a way that she doesn't think those around her supported her.
She's donating all of the reparative ££ to charities that work with the community and hopes that she can be an example of what happens when out there alone in society
^ That's the proper PR move but given that she doesn't have PR anymore, I won't hold my breath.
Can you say who? It’s shocking how many jumped on the bandwagon. So keen to be seen as one of the good ones. Fav quote to come out of this “instead of eating the rich, we are eating each other”. Embarrassing. SF won’t stop. She is baiting them and will continue to do so until they issue a cease and desist so she can cry oppression. Also cannot stand the “she’s not black enough to talk about black issues”, SF talks slavery and she is not from slaves. Indigenous Australians had the black bred out of them in a systematic genocide. Are fair skinned Indigenous People not able to speak on oppression? I know it’s not the same but frankly all logic left her arguments long ago. Let’s not forget she waited until FG was being slammed for being a bully before she turned on her.A white blogger with a fairly small (below 10k) following who apparently was very vocal in SF's favour at the beginning of all this has now put stories and posts up explaining where and how she went wrong and donated to BMM
Aja's comment sections are always full of people trying to look woke by 'calling people out' about shit, it's tiresome. All this achieves is a pile-on, lots of people getting on their high horse (as if they've never said or done anything wrong), and the other side being overly apologetic and submissive. The whole thing is so performative.. Most of these people probably don't even do any activism offline. Bleugh. From Aja's video
Good point. I felt a bit gross writing that and I shouldn’t have. There really is no way for us to know and really it’s not the issue. Can people just leave out if she did or didn’t descend from slaves. I’m not sticking up for CE but if we don’t know HER family history or background personally I’d leave whether she did or didn’t alone tbf. It’s not up to us to decide.
how does she know how much she makes?
whewwwwwww - it's curtains for slummy!
munroe didn't lie at all and I totally commend her for speaking up x
They were friends at one point, maybe they talked about it thenhow does she know how much she makes?
Yeah it really isn’t the issue but I’m also glad you can see this was wrong. It is really uncomfortable to read when people keep writing this*. (for me personally especially as a black person)*Good point. I felt a bit gross writing that and I shouldn’t have. There really is no way for us to know and really it’s not the issue.
ohh I see, that makes sense. I feel like this whole thing just proves that modern day activists care more about fame than they do being activists and it sucks tbh, she's going about things the wrong way I still believe theslumflower is hurt because Florences book overtook hers and maybe she wanted 2020 to just be about her book only but she could of easily teamed up with Florence they both could of done a live or a youtube video discussing both their books..They were friends at one point, maybe they talked about it then
I might be wrong, but I feel like power has gone to Chidera’s head a bit - people listen to her, she has influence, she is now used to saying something and having her loyal followers agree in unison.5) When did we stop critical thinking as Aja said? Imagine if we lived in a world where we could throw out any allegation and expect compensation? Chidera is not judge jury and executioner, Florence has saw independent legal advice as I suggest she do considering the amount she earns and it’s still not good enough. The receipts she’s shown show fuck all - I see she left out the bits where munroe said over text that she didn’t support it
