I'm uncomfortable at the underlying suggestion that domestic violence shouldn't be fully investigated if the victim withdraws their accusation or the accused is having a tough time
It's making me extremely uncomfortable. The truth is, she probably would have got a slap on the wrist and sent on a Building Better Relationships course, and that might actually have helped her turn the corner. Far from being life ending, it might actually have been the catalyst she needed to seek meaningful help.

The whole reason the police are now primed to continue prosecution after a victim withdraws their statement is because the consequences of dropping it can be irreversible and fatal.

Wow, I know that grief is terrible but a relationship didn't end her life, Caroline did.
It is irrelevant why he sent that photo, and who he sent it to. It's a really shitty thing to do to blame someone for a suicide.

Of course he has moved on, and why shouldn't he? Caroline Flack lived her life in the sidebar of shame, and so is he. I don't see the difference, it's the way these people make their living.

To ramble on that suicide is abuse to loved ones and is selfish.. fucking, WOW. Being suicidal is quite literally torture. You give up your fight for life. Its an incredibly scary and conflicting place to be. Mental illness should NOT be judged in that way.
As a woman who’s husband killed himself I Think he was completely selfish and took a easy way out, he left me with a just turned 3 year old who was only learning about the outside world and left him angry for years, so yes he was very very selfish

It’s also funny how in all the texts and voicenotes shared, that Caroline never once said she can’t cope with the online trolling she’s getting. Her gripes were very clearly with the CPS and the media misrepresentation. Yes she was getting ridiculed and mocked but that doesn’t seem to have been the driving force in her mental decline. It’s clear the fact that the CPS said they wouldn’t drop the charges and the fact the police cam footage would be released in court was too much for her to cope with, as having come as far as she did since the incident, she ended her life two days after this news. But that didn’t stop every z lister Tom Dick and Harry screaming “they trolled her to death”, while looking for their five seconds afterwards. I have no idea how this has been rewritten by self serving z listers as her being bullied to death by online trolls when it is clearly so much more nuanced and complex than just that.

After watching the trailer I don’t understand what the mom means by “there is so much the public don’t know”. It comes across as if there is going to be a reveal that will shock everyone. I feel so so sad for her family but I don’t understand what the documentary is about?

My opinion is there would have been a very different outcome had there not been trial by media. I don’t think the tabloids should be able to name and rip someone to shreds until they have been convicted of a crime. This goes for everyone regardless of status.
This paying for stories which they don’t know if they are true or not just shouldn’t have a place in society.
Yes, CF clearly had her own demons but these were only exacerbated by our MSM who don’t give a damn about people only a headline.

He’s not articulate at all no, I’ve always seen him as a bit of a himbo if I’m honest.
However giving him the benefit of the doubt, that is an incredibly hard thing to go through and there is no way he has the emotional maturity to deal with it properly. I don’t know how you even start to deal with it but Id assume he’s got a level of unprocessed trauma around it.

you have to be absolute evil psychopath to not be impacted by the suicide of your on / off partner, which it is really unlikely he is.
CFs mum does want to paint him somewhat in that light but is he really some kind of emotional devoid monster? Or is he just super immature and self serving?

Hopefully this isn’t classed as derailing, but I was just reminded about Caroline Adherne - another (albeit talented) violent famous woman who abused her partner relentlessly before she died and has since taken on angel status in the public’s mind.

There are pictures of Hooky punching her in the stomach in broad daylight in the middle of the street so I think with those 2 they were fucked up alcoholics, both of them as bad as each other.

I do think that she killed herself due to the media mocking her, the upcoming criminal trial that she knew was going to be public, and the shame and hurt associated with losing her beloved job. She seemed to identify with her TV persona and she lost it.

As no trial has taken place it has not been found that she was really violent or even established what had happened that night. It is likely that she caused a scene, but we do not know what her boyfriend did and if she hit him with an object why she did it - although violence cannot be excused there can be mitigating circumstances.

So whilst she was a troubled and somewhat immature person I do not believe that she would necessarily have committed suicide.
This incident and what it did to her life was the reason.

Yes, a stronger person might not have killed themselves and gotten through this situation, but she couldn't deal with it.

Look at Blake Lively - she said in her lawsuit that the media reaction to her mean girl behaviour or her "cancellation" as she calls it caused her severe psychological harm. And she has a powerful husband, four children, tons of money and contacts, friendships with powerful people etc etc.
Caroline had her mother and sisters and friends, but was otherwise on her own and jobless and was facing a public criminal trial.
Mitigating circumstances? I’m sorry, but there are precisely zero and I mean zero mitigating circumstances for domestic violence. Or maybe this is a bit of misandry?

also her mum blaming the CPS and police saying they shouldn’t prosecute as she would kill herself. If they done it for her, everyone has a get out then.

She was obviously a manipulative person who when lost control of her image couldn’t cope. She has this image of a fun time career girl with a glam lifestyle and toy boys that worshipped her. I feel that behind all this was a scared women with addiction and mental health issues. Her Mum can blame the ex but maybe Caroline was surrounded by enablers who loved her so much they didn’t help her see that she was the problem and needed serious help. It’s a sad situation that she felt the only way out was to kill her self and I hope her mum and family get some peace in the future.

What seems to have been lost is that Caroline was accused of an act of domestic violence whilst intoxicated then when she was arrested behaved in a similar way at the police station towards members of the police. Sometimes one has to face up to the consequences of ones actions. Mental health problems cause you to behave in ways that in a rational state you would not. That does not mean that you are not culpable. Our prisons particularly women’s prisons would be much less empty if we let people off for the reasons Caroline wanted to be let off for. Her mother’s opinion is severely clouded by the horrific grief of losing a child. I don’t think the reality of what happened can be judged from her opinion. Caroline could not face up to the inevitable loss of her career fame and having her and her partners behaviour raked over by the press. There was nobody who could persuade her to use the money she had earned in her lucrative career to pay for therapy and a detoxification Programme. She felt her only way out was to take her life. RIP mam.

If her mum is coming from a place of “what can we do / should we do to help people in crisis” and exploring the subject through CF story then perhaps that is a good thing, to highlight where failings can happen / the high risk times etc)

But if this is a focused documentary looking at CF circumstances trying to find a point of blame I don’t think it’s a great idea.

CF was super immature and was often dating men a lot younger than herself so I doubt she would have even registered how fucked up the situation with Harry even was. I don’t think she was a beard, H might have experimented but I don’t believe he is gay. I think he leaves himself as ambiguous because that suits his brand and fan base.

The Nazir Afzal interview demonstrated to me why the whole programme was pointless. Even with this opinion that the CPS juggernaut ran away with itself, it didn't make Christine feel ant better at all, arguably it made it all worse. I don't think I learnt anything from it and found it quite superficial really.
It just felt like Christine desperately trying to blame someone to feel better about what happened but even if someone else stood up and took full responsibility for what happened she wouldn’t feel any better as it wouldn’t change what happened.

The info is all out there, most of it came from Lewis himself, there was no attack. There was no court case regarding the alleged attack, either as she died. No conviction. Everything reported other than the actual evidence heard at the inquest is literally hearsay and gossip. She died an innocent woman. Unfortunately lobbing a phone/cracking a lamp at/on her bf seems to be lodged in the public's collective psyche. That's the media for you.
I think that you are mistaken. I don’t think that there is any disputing that she hit him while he slept. She admitted it. The only dispute is what with. There were rumours that it was a lamp but later it became the phone. He had an injury to his head. As for being innocent. She wasn’t found to be innocent as there was no trial. Whilst she was also not found guilty, saying that she was innocent of the crime she was charged with is not true. Without a trial no conclusion can be reached either way.

I agree. She was very immature. I read her autobiography when it came out and it read like the autobiography of a 14 year old girl! It was clear there were some issues there around relationships. The reaction to break ups was very extreme (IMO).

Her mother needs some extensive therapy. I'm not saying that would make everything okay, of course it will not, but I can't see how trawling over these things for a tv programme or finger pointing really is going to help.
