Caroline had tried to commit suicide the night before, the ambulance attended and couldn’t force her to seek help as she refused it.
No matter how much you play it off as you being okay, if you’ve attempted to OD and had to have an ambulance called for you, surely there should be some form of psychiatric intervention?? How was she not fitting the criteria for being a danger to herself and others??
With all due respect, I think you might have you have jumped to conclusions about what happened the day before. This is the only information released by the ambulance trust and it doesn’t say they were called to an attempted suicide, overdose or anything else for that matter. It also doesn’t say she refused to go to hospital or that they decided she didn’t need to go. The statement is brief and without much detail but what it contains are the only facts available to Joe Public about their call-out (as far as I’m aware anyway - please correct me if I’m wrong. Although I don’t take anything that’s reported from ‘a source close to Caroline/Lewis/her team etc.’ as reliable/factual).

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called shortly after 22:30 on 14 February to a residential property on Northwold Road, N16.

"Crews attended and, following a clinical assessment, the person was not taken to hospital. Due to patient confidentiality we cannot comment further."

I’m amazed at some of the replies on here

you think sectioning needs looking at? You think you can section everyone who tries to kill themselves? I’m a nurse, we have people in Every night who have tried to harm or kill them selves.. some of these people try to attempt suicide on a regular bases. As long as someone has mental capacity, we stitch them back up and send them on their way again.

it’s impossible to section everyone who harms themselves or attempts suicide. There is NOT enough staff or bed spaces. Not only that but it’s illegal. You can’t just section someone. You can try and kill yourself whilst having full capacity. There is a reason why so many legislations are in place surrounding the MCA and sectioning. Where does it begin? Does my patient last night who self neglected need to be sectioned? Does the alcoholic who drinks 3 bottles of wine each night need to be sectioned because technically speaking he’s killing them self just in a very slow way.

you can’t just magic up thousands of extra staff, hospitals and bed spaces to look after all these newly sectioned patients. I mean this kindly but for those who have never worked in nursing etc you really do not understand the half of it.
The majority of patients who self harm/attempt suicide DO NOT need sectioning. You’ve got human rights to thank for that.
I think it’s also a common misconception that self harm is always an attempt at suicide when it isn’t. Sometimes people self harm to try and actually keep themselves alive, as hard as that might be for some of us to understand.

I know it’s not possible to section everyone. I’m a suicide attempt survivor myself. I self harm even to this day. I know exactly how hard it is to get the support you need as I can’t get what I need myself.
I just think there’s a lot more that should be done to protect people and support them. Those who are regularly in and out of hospital after numerous suicide attempts surely aren’t getting the right support and help necessary.

I wonder why they were called to her house the night before. ?
All that was in the news about that is that they were doing a welfare check. So someone called the emergency services for what ever reason. It could be on the basis of a text or a phone call that she made that has concerned someone that couldn't get to her, doesn't mean she tried to harm herself that night.

You have a lot of anger for someone who isnt personally involved. Are you secretly one of her “friends “ that was so concerned about her

whistledown doesn’t want to know the truth. Just to tell us WE don’t know the truth. Also, if papers had printed lies, cf and the family could sue them. Which also hasn’t happened.

Yes. If you could. We would all like to read your version of the events.
I think that's the problem.

Of course the press have to print fact, they cannot just print what they feel or make up stories, however what they do do, is write it in a way that's very sensationalised and it sits on a fine line between truth and fiction. That's how they draw people in.

They also produce articles where it leaves the readers plenty of chance to speculate and fill in their own gaps and gives readers a starting point for gossip.

And this is just related to Caroline, this is for every single celebrity they decide to give a bard time to over the years. It's also down to the words they use. Kelvin Fletcher for example held his hand on his dance partners lower back as they walked into a hotel bar but one paper reported it as "he had lovingly placed his hand on her lower back and scanned around quickly as they snuck into the hotel together" it read more like a bad Mills and Boon than fact!

Unfortunately the mental health care in this country is a mess. There’s just no budget to cover how bad it is.
My friend manages a house for problem children. They are regularly searched for drugs and anything they can hurt themselves with. Obviously things fall through the cracks and last year a 15 year old slit her wrists. My friend has to stem the bleeding and then rush her to hospital herself as the ambulance took too long. They tried to release her after she had been to stitched up. Despite her saying she would do it again. A 15 year old girl. It took my friend begging etc to have her admitted.
I don’t no what the answer is as a lot of resources are needed. But my point is yeah potentially she had tried to hurt herself the evening before but the paramedics knew there was very little they could do for her

best post on this whole thread.
Thankyou! :)

I truly needed to vent, probably because someone in my family ( male ) is in a relationship with someone now and is affected by abuse.
He has just gone back to his wife for about the 5th time and although we can see the physical and mental effects of stress ( losing weight, low immune system, acting like a zombie) and get the stories about how manipulative she has been ( draining bank accounts, seeing other men but demanding absolute loyalty whilst he looks after the kids, telling him she wants a divorce but he still has to live there etc). There is nothing we can do, especially as he makes excuses for her at this point. She is manipulative, she lets the kids do bad things so he has to discipline them and then tells him she will call social services so they will be taken away. She showers them with gifts and then ignores them.....etc. She has also got him sacked from 3 jobs now by constantly phoning him, forcing him to take time off and even once, steal from work.
She has been violent to one of her teenage children in a public place but she was let off by police when they arrived and her son didn't want to press charges. So god knows what she is like in the home. She has admitted to having various mood disorders, and says she has PTSD. She doesn't get help for the mental health issues...or takes anti-depressants for a couple of months and then stops because she feels better.
Apparently PTSD is a common excuse for domestic abuse, as are drugs and alcohol, when in fact they are just something else the person uses to try and self regulate or even use as an excuse for acting badly ( for years!). In my opinion, some people would rather claim they have PTSD because it shows them as the victim ( not saying some don't have it) but it doesn't excuse you acting violently. It's all very complex, the abusers obviously are damaged in some way but they can cause equal if not more damage to spouses and kids by ignoring their actions.

I can think of a few celebs ( Katie Price, Roxanne Pallet, Flack) who have claimed PTSD was the root of their problems, gone to 'rehab' for 5 minutes and then promised things were different.

I wondered about that too. I don’t know if we’ll ever find out.
Could the questions she wanted answers to be about the CPS going ahead with charges or not letting them see each other? She might have been saying all that to family for months .

I will never forgive you for those three minutes of my life I will never get back! 😂

Reading it, it strikes me that Hazel is probably the pride of her council estate who needs to stick to writing about the soaps. She says it's ALL FACTS and you can Google it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I just can't even with the comments. Trial by bleeping Facebook. I see it every day when I'm actual murder trial stalking.

And yes, I'm originally from a massive council estate myself before anyone starts on me. I'm allowed to judge 😂
If Hazel is hailing herself as a ‘writer’ then she needs to be acquainted with sentence structure, full stops and the correct spelling of ‘sickeningly’ and not sickinginly

I agree, reads like a first person account of Caroline’s life - step off the bandwagon love.

I really really hope your brother can get himself out.

And this is another that thing that worries me. The affect it will have on domestic violence against men. Its already a hard subject for men to deal with, given that they are already the "stronger" sex and therefore should be able to stand up to it. But to now have people saying that we she did shouldn't have got that far, that it was an accident and generally glossing over it and turning her into a Saint, really isn't going to help.

The attack seems to have been forgotten as from what I've seen on social media, they are pointing the finger of blame at Love Island, of which it's nothing to do with, at the CPS for prosecuting and the media for hounding her.

You cannot help but ask if the roles had been reversed, would the public still want the cps to drop the case against him?

It's desperatly sad that she ended her own life. But by her own admission, she had mental health problems, she had jealous rages and has self harmed. None of this should be an excuse for her not to have been prosecuted for common assault, unless it was proven she was unstable to stand trial and therefore there would be no benefit.

And to be honest, the constant reference to Samaritans is annoying. Samaritans are a listening service and with my dealings, a pretty usess one at that. My friend committed suicide 9 years ago, he phoned the Samaritans and the man who he was speaking to said, "come on, you are a man. Get yourself down the pub, have a drink and carry on with your life"

I've had another friend whose husband was threatening her constantly and was being dealt with by the Police by way of injunction but would still attempt to kick her front door in and chase her through the streets etc. She phoned Samaritans and the person she spoke to said "maybe if you let him in to talk rather than being rude and ignoring him, you could resolve this"

And I've had to phone them. I hit my own rock bottom and wanted a way out. They asked me how I was feeling and they replied, "are you often prone to dramatics, this why you are alone now as its often tiring for other people to deal with"

So for those reasons I'd never recommend Samaritans.

I find all this #bekind stuff very belittling. There was a lot of pent up anger within Caroline. Obviously she hurt Lewis and previous boyfriends because she was angry, she hurt herself because she was angry. It could be that the red mist descended which caused her to kill herself. I've had these issues myself and the times I've tried to kill myself have usually been because I was so angry I just wanted to die. Being angry makes you lose total control. I've never hurt anyone else though just myself. I get the impression she may have been in a mid fit of rage and killed herself, thinking and thinking and getting angrier and angrier until.... People seem to think she just sat down and planned it, theres not always a clear thought process going on.

I agree with @EmilyChambers with regards to the Samaritans. As the people on the phones are volunteers, it will never be a substitute for professional help. While they do get training and aren't supposed to give advice, just listen, you can't stop volunteers at a service putting their own opinion forward, which can sometimes be less than helpful. They are not necessarily the right place to direct someone in crisis when it's pot luck who you get on the line.

On another note, sorry to be pedantic about terminology here, but people are hanged, and meat is hung.

I believe that the volunteers are told not to tell someone they shouldn’t commit suicide, only to listen and talk. Although I think they can alert the authorities where they have genuine concerns. Their training doesn’t include advice - only to listen, only to try and cajole someone into a better place.

My Aunty volunteers for the Samaritans after her husband committed suicide. She hasn’t ever talked about her training, someone else I know spoke about their experience, as it wasn’t what they expected.

You’re so right. Brilliant post. Mental capacity is a key element. My close relative has been sectioned twice and when you see someone who has lost their mental capacity, there’s a clear difference. Severe depression is so serious but their capacity is still there, you can’t watch someone 24 hours a day can you. If they want to do something they will. My relative was hospitalised when manic, but at home when depressed. This is why suicide is so so painful, it’s nobodies fault but her illness (and perhaps life choices such as drugs/alcohol which exacerbate the condition though I don’t know about that element). That second video above though she looks so so sad behind her eyes.

There are some really great posts on this thread, thank you for sharing.
I am a bit fed up of people minimising the violence. Yes she was not guilty of anything yet, as her trial had not been held. But she had been charged which suggests a reasonable allegation, and the evidence reported from the magistrates hearing painted a picture of intentional violence towards her boyfriend. However, in the trial we may have seen the facts on which the prosecution was based were not robust - we will now never know.

but I really hate people glossing over it as just an accident or “bet he was giving it as good as her” etc. Yes couples row but violence towards any person is never ok unless in self defence which the law recognises. There was no suggestion of this in CFs case from what we know. Nor that she was unfit to stand trial due to mental illness. Clearly she was troubled but mental illness isn’t a free card to do what you want. Actions have consequences. I can’t just say I’m stressed and anxious about my workload at work and stabbed my boss so that’s ok.
I agree about the Samaritans as well. It’s an important charity but not equipped to handle mental health illnesses that require medication and / or counselling. I think the influencers and celebs posting the number everywhere is so disingenuous. Clearly these people have never had mental health problems otherwise they wouldn’t be suggesting a quick chat to the Samaritans as a fix all.

Long time lurker here.

I've been following this thread from the start and the only thing that is clear is that we each see this tragic unfolding of events via the narrative of our own experiences.

When I was 20 I threw a glass bottle of ketchup at a man who had emotionally abused me for 3 years.

He moved and it smashed up the wall.

He called the police and said i had tried to beat him over the head with it.

Luckily for me when the police came the one officer
must have got a feel that something was off as after talking to us both he asked if there was somewhere else I wanted to stay that night. I said yes, packed a bag and they took me to my parents.

That wasn't the end obviously but that's a long story.

Imagine how different my life could have gone if he hadn't moved out of the way.

I'm not saying that this is what happened with CF.

I'm not saying that there is any excuse for violence or that it shouldn't be punished.

I AM saying that context is relevant. And that's what we will never get here. Only Lewis now knows what exactly happened prior to the police arrival.
