To me she is the epitome of someone who grew up poor and now thinks wearing expensive designer outfits will elevate her to a different strand of society that she so desperately wants to be part of.

She would sell her Nan to be a part of the upper crust insta mums, you know the ones, they come from money and do it because it keeps them occupied in between brunch and weekends away. They won’t say no to an expensive freebie but husband and daddy’s money could easily pay for what they get given for free.

The problem is that Candy doesn’t have that lifestyle or income stream so she keeps throwing random expensive tit together that’s either gifted or bought on credit and hopes that no one notices that she has the opposite of imposter syndrome.

I wish these black girls wpuld undersyand that being rich and having luxury isnt designer goods. Its access to private healthcare, excellent schooling, buying properties if you want so you can start generational wealth, investment. Black girl luxury is making the wave and trending on tik tok and as a black woman is annoys me as luxury doesnf mean designer clothes or bags, thats what keeps the poor poor. Luxury is making money work for you in all aspecta of life and keepinv that going for your family in builsing generational wealth Candice and Chanel Ambrose are idiots

Tbf to Mel due to her line of work the clothes are part of her brand so I get it, plus they’ll be allowable expenses through her company/she probs has PR connections so gets more freebies than disclosed 👀 Also culturally a lot of people don’t leave home until they’re due to marry, she’s never advocated getting anything on credit (afaik?) so I would be shocked if she was dumb enough to end up living like Candice with her HTB scheme cardboard house in zone 98.

I really think she’ll just shock all her followers by buying some lovely detached home out of the ends one day!

For most millennials unless you’re buying a tiny flat or HTB nightmare you’re going to wait until you’ve got a partner to make your first purchase 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know this sounds awful but realistically Mel is going to end up with someone earning well (as does she) so even more reason to wait. Not that this is her thread 😂

The attachment to items is scary, but lack of taste is more frightening.

Her content is becoming boring to her followers and she knows it. She gained 150k within a few days of George Floyd's death and hardly anything since then. Perhaps she thinks a move to Amerikkka will enhance her profile? Manhatten or America full stop is the last place I'd want to be raising my black sons. No thank you very much, I'll just stay here and sip tea.

She used to be a 'madam' basically selling women as escorts (prostitutes) for profit.
Wait what? I don’t know much about this woman but can you elaborate? How do you know she was a madam? That’s shocking I never knew that

My biggest tattle bug bear is when people come in asking people to elaborate. Read the receipts like we had to, stop cutting corners 🤣

OK so without getting classist, I'm "old money" (as in, grew up with pony, went to private school, dad worked for the embassy so lots of travel etc etc). We have nice cars and clothes but mostly I'm in a 1980s land rover with my 2006 Ugg boots and straw in my hair. Candy is so new money its embarrassing - as someone else posted, wealth means private healthcare, safety nets and a comfortable future for your children. She is PURELY a social climber, she has no interest in bettering anyone else's - even her own children's lives. Why none of her sheep followers see this escapes me 🤷‍♀️

Because social media has people believing that affluence is directly defined by how many designer labels you can plaster on yourself. It’s vulgar.

I don’t think this way of living is uncommon, it’s chicken/egg like did the Insta pages come first or the spending? Women are entering IVAs at the highest rate since records began and obvs the ONS aren’t collecting data on their media consumption but I’d bet my house on it that they’re heavy Instagram users.

It’s sad cos it’s always obvious these people are leveraged up to the eyeballs but idk if it bothers them, like as long as they’ve got a #reno account to show the girls from school their extension I don’t think they care that they’ll have to work until their 70s or they’re doing the last food shop of the month on a credit card. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Totally agree.

Social media and rampant consumerism go hand in hand. The need to show labels and measure importance based on the size of your home is a staple.

I followed C and soon became put off by her obsession with showing value through stuff and what comes across as a will do anything for money attitude.

She did a tiktok recently where she discussed how much harder it was to have a child at age 30 compared to her early twenties. If I’m not mistaken, 30 is still young and I’m surprised people in her comments were saying they were considered older mums because they had their first child in their late twenties. I’m not sure what earth Candice lives on, but 30 is still young and the average woman in the UK has her first child after 30.

There’s definitely different perspectives on this dependent on class/culture/religion. White middle class women tend to be later mums than even white WC women, cultural expectations shift it even more like I know an Indian friend whose parents wanted her married by 23 ready for children (didn’t happen but there was the definite expectation). It’s a nuanced situ that TikTok probs isn’t the platform for 😂
